2024 RTSports Outlook

The Panthers found a much needed weapon for Bryce Young in this year's draft, trading up to get Legette at the end of the first round. Legette is a big, strong receiver with plus speed. He does well with the contested catch and a good job of shielding off defenders with his size and strength. He can struggle some getting in and out of his breaks, needing to sharpen his route running. Legette should start immediately for the Panthers and play a big role in the offense.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Legette lands in a really good spot for playing time and weekly targets. He could have some big games this season but consider him more of a No. 4 fantasy receiver in this below-average offense. He could get around 70 receptions for 900 yard and five touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

The Carolina Panthers selected South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette with the 32nd overall draft pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite the majority of pre-draft predictions having Legette go in round two and beyond, the 23-year-old snuck into the first round and went to the team that showed constant interest in him ahead of the draft. Legette did not have a great start to his college career -- as he dealt with several significant injuries and played a ton of special teams during his first four seasons. However, what put him on the radar was Legette's 2024 performance. The South Carolina native finished the season with a team-high 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. His athletic testing further attracted the eyes of scouts. Legette clocked in at a 4.39 40-yard-dash, with a 1.54 10-yard split, 40-inch vertical jump, and 10-foot-6 broad jump. Factoring in the several additions to Carolina's offense, newly hired head coach Dave Canales will look to elevate the team around 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young. While route-running specialists Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen will without a doubt earn a large chunk of Young's targets this season, Legette has the highest ceiling from the corp. Currently ranked as the WR65 with an ADP of 138.2 on Underdog, the rookie receiver is well worth a shot in all formats.

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette (hamstring) is dealing with a minor hamstring injury and has been limited this offseason, but head coach Dave Canales said he expects the rookie first-rounder to be a full participant in training camp. Legette, who was selected with the No. 32 overall pick in April's draft, will compete with Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen, and Jonathan Mingo for snaps and targets in Year 1. Carolina's offense is one of the tougher units to evaluate for fantasy football, as everything depends on the growth of sophomore quarterback Bryce Young. Legette posted fewer than 500 total yards in his first four seasons at South Carolina but broke out in 2023 with a 71-catch, 1,255-yard, seven-touchdown campaign. For now, he should be viewed as nothing more than a late-round flier in most formats.

Carolina Panthers rookie first-round wide receiver Xavier Legette (hamstring) is still dealing with a hamstring issue that popped up last week as the voluntary organized team activities continue this week. The 23-year-old pass-catcher is dealing with a little tightness in his hamstring. The issue doesn't appear to be very serious, but the Panthers are taking it easy on their first draft pick from this year. Even though Legette's injury isn't serious, he's missing more valuable reps at OTAs as he learns a new offense and tries to gain chemistry with second-year quarterback Bryce Young. As long as Legette is ready to go for the start of training camp at the end of July, it shouldn't affect his fantasy draft stock much in 2024. The 32nd overall pick in April out of South Carolina will have an uphill battle for weekly fantasy relevance in his rookie campaign with both Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen stealing precious targets from him in an offense that looked terrible in 2023.

Carolina Panthers first-round rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring during organized team activities on Tuesday and is erring on the side of caution and sitting out of practice on Wednesday. It's not a major injury for the 32nd overall pick last month, but he's going to miss some valuable repetitions as he heads into his first NFL season. The 23-year-old should be good for mandatory minicamp in June and training camp at the end of July, and despite other additions to the position in the offseason, Legette should have an opportunity for a big role in his first NFL season as the Panthers look to improve drastically on offense from a year ago. However, with veteran Adam Thielen and newcomer Diontae Johnson likely ahead of him in the target pecking order, fantasy managers should prepare for Legette to be inconsistent in 2024 as a deep threat.

Carolina Panthers rookie first-round wide receiver Xavier Legette, who was taken 32nd overall in this year's NFL draft last month, has had trouble connecting with the team's rookie quarterbacks so far in rookie minicamp practices. Legette has always had the size-speed combination -- his 4.39-second 40-yard dash tied for the sixth-fastest among wideouts at this year's scouting combine -- but he kept hearing that he had to improve as a route-runner as he took part in Senior Bowl practices and the combine. At 6-foot-1, 221 pounds, some questioned Legette's ability to drop his hips and quickly get out of his breaks. Legette has been compared physically to DK Metcalf, who Panthers head coach Dave Canales worked with in Seattle. At the very least, Legette will give second-year QB Bryce Young a speed, big-bodied target deep down the field in 2024, but expecting much more than that might be unwise in 2024.

May 7 2:30pm ET

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette, who was taken with the final pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft after the Panthers traded up, has drawn comparisons from scouts to Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf, mainly because of his 6-foot-3, 227-pound frame. "Not quite the athlete Metcalf is but he's got some game-breaking ability like that, and he can do a little more with versatility as a runner and pass-catcher," an NFL personnel evaluator said. Second-year quarterback Bryce Young could certainly use some more playmakers like that after a disastrous rookie season. The 23-year-old Legette is probably going to struggle to produce consistently for fantasy managers in single-year leagues in 2024, especially after Carolina also added wideout Diontae Johnson in free agency this offseason.

Dynasty | The Carolina Panthers selected wide receiver Xavier Legette with the final pick of round one in the 2024 NFL Draft. Dynasty Analysis: The Carolina Panthers moved up and secured the final pick of round one to draft Legette 32nd overall. It's a tricky landing spot for his value as he'll have an immediate chance for playing time but also a project being paired with a quarterback who has a whole lot of question marks moving forward. Legette looks like a boom or bust rookie draft pick who will likely go in round two of most rookie drafts moving forward.
