2024 RTSports Outlook

Cousins played just eight games last year because of a torn Achilles' but still managed to finish 24th overall in fantasy quarterback scoring. He was having a huge season before the injury. Cousins had multiple touchdowns in all but a game and six games with 22-plus fantasy points. If Cousins played an entire season last year, he would have 4,953 passing yards and 38 touchdowns. Both those totals would have been career highs. Cousins has 4,000-yard seasons in three of his last four. He also has 30-plus total scores in three of four seasons. Before last season, Cousins had at least 27 total scores in eight straight seasons and at least 4,000 passing yards in all but one of those seasons. Cousins signed with the Falcons this offseason to give a much needed upgrade to their quarterback position. He heads to an offense with a lot of top, young weapons. Cousins isn't a flashy quarterback but a productive pocket passer. He doesn't have a huge arm, but he is accurate and makes smart decisions with the football. Cousins also has a knack for the rushing touchdown, scoring 19 in the last eight seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Cousins is returning from a major injury, moving to a new team, and is another year older, so he has some concerns. But if healthy, Cousins should get it done on a weekly basis. He could really have some monster games with the talent surrounding him this year. Cousins is a consistent top-10 fantasy quarterback. If you want to wait on a quarterback, Cousins is a good one to target after the top ones are gone. He'll get around 4,500 yards, 30 total scores, and ten or so interceptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

There are plenty of things working against Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins in fantasy this season. He's coming off a torn Achilles, he will turn 36 years old in August, and he will learn a new system after signing a four-year deal with the Falcons this offseason. But, despite all that, Cousins is a strong sleeper option in 2024. He should still throw at least 40 times per game and joins a Falcons offense that features Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson -- all former top 10 picks. That should help him finish as a borderline QB1 this year, even coming off a torn Achilles. Of course, Cousins won't give fantasy managers any rushing numbers, but that has never affected his fantasy value. He has finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback in six of the past nine seasons while averaging 4,049 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 530 pass attempts per year. That volume alone should make him a low-end QB1 option every week.

The Atlanta Falcons will have their 2025 fifth-round pick revoked following the NFL's investigation into potential tampering. The Falcons violated the anti-tampering policy with quarterback Kirk Cousins, wide receiver Darnell Mooney, and tight end Charlie Woerner. In addition to the pick loss, the team was fined $250,000, and general manager Terry Fontenot was fined $500,000, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. All things considered, this is a mild punishment. The Falcons have Super Bowl aspirations after signing Cousins to a $180 million contract this offseason, and the punishments will not affect their 2024 campaign.

The Atlanta Falcons were fined $250,000 and docked a 2025 fifth-round draft selection for violating the NFL's anti-tampering policy with three players, including QB Kirk Cousins, the league announced Thursday, June 13.

From TheHuddle

May 18 1:10pm ET

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins was recently asked about the status of the NFL's investigation into tampering allegations by the Falcons. "The league's still kind of going through that," Cousins said. "So, I'll let them do it. But there's not a whole lot there." However, Cousins admitted that he spoke to the team's head athletic trainer during the 52-hour negotiating window where direct communication between the team and impending free agent are strictly forbidden. The QB also said he spoke to director of player personnel Ryan Pace. Cousins said tight end Kyle Pitts actively recruited Cousins for multiple weeks. Cousins also admitted that he personally called former Bears receiver Darnell Mooney to close the deal that brought him to Atlanta during the 52-hour window. It's unclear how deep the league's investigation will be into this matter and whether the Falcons will actually get punished.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) was seen jogging lightly and throwing during OTAs on Tuesday, according to Zach Klein of WSB. The veteran signal-caller tore his Achilles while playing for the Minnesota Vikings roughly six months ago, but this latest update suggests his recovery is going quite well. Reports out of Georgia indicate that Cousins is already forming a firm rapport with his receivers, including Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Darnell Mooney. As long as Cousins remains on track to play Week 1, he'll enter the 2024 campaign as a fringe top-12 quarterback in fantasy football.

From RotoBaller

May 10 4:00pm ET

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) is working his way back from a Week 8 Achilles tear from last season, and reports out of Atlanta suggest he is making great progress. "Kirk is every day improving," Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said. "He's been doing all those things, he's been throwing, he's been out there pretty much full-go. Now, we got him in a limited basis, obviously 'cause he's still in his rehab and his treatment and all those types of things." The 35-year-old signal-caller has not been dropping back behind an offensive line or facing a rush, but he's evidently looked good on his dropbacks and reps with his new wide receiver group. Despite Atlanta selecting Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Cousins remains the clear starter in 2024 as long as he holds up. The four-time Pro Bowler has thrown for at least 4,000 yards seven times in his nine-year career as a starter, while the Falcons have not had a 4,000-yard passer since Matt Ryan in 2020. If Cousins isn't limited by his major injury, he'll remain a fringe QB1 option surrounded by Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Darnell Mooney, and company.

May 10 11:33am ET

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins (Achilles) has been 'pretty much full go' at practice, according to head coach Raheem Morris on Friday, May 10. Morris said there's no contact and no one is around his feet.

Fantasy Spin: Even with the selection of Michael Penix Jr., Cousins is a fringe QB1 option for fantasy given the stable of talent around him.

From TheHuddle

Apr 28 1:40pm ET

Despite the Atlanta Falcons shockingly taking quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night, veteran QB Kirk Cousins' position as the team's starting signal-caller of the foreseeable future has not changed, according to head coach Raheem Morris. Minnesota signed Cousins to a four-year deal worth up to $180 million, with $100 million guaranteed, in free agency in March. Morris said Cousins doesn't have to look over his shoulder, and that there is no QB controversy at all. Cousins' agent, Mike McCartney, said there was frustration and confusion coming from his camp because the team didn't use their first-round pick to improve the team in 2024. Cousins will be Atlanta's starter in 2024, but perhaps the Falcons are just giving themselves some extra insurance with Cousins coming off an Achilles tear.

From RotoBaller

Apr 26 1:13am ET

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins was said to be frustrated and confused by the team's selection of QB Michael Penix Jr, according to Cousins' agent, who noted that the team did not utilize its first-round pick to improve the club for 2024.

Fantasy Spin: While it makes for some fun headlines, Cousins has $180 million reasons to make the best of things in Year 1 with the Falcons. He's the clear QB1 in Atlanta, and he carries low-end QB1 potential for fantasy owners as well.

THe NFL is looking into potential tampering by the Atlanta Falcons related to the signing of free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, according to sources Thursday, March 14.

From TheHuddle

Mar 13 11:23pm ET

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins (Achilles) said Wednesday, March 13, that his recovery from an Achilles' rupture is progressing well, and he is 'optimistic to be full speed at practice' before the team breaks for summer in a couple of months, and his goal is to retire as a member of the organization.

Fantasy Spin: Cousins was having an amazing season in Minnesota last fall before his season-ending injury. If he is able to return to 100 percent, Cousins has low-end QB1 fantasy ability in leagues of 12 or more teams.

From TheHuddle

Mar 13 8:50pm ET

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) said his recovery from a torn right Achilles that he suffering on Oct. 29 (Week 8) has been progressing "up and to the right." He also said that he's "optimistic to be full speed at practice" before the team breaks for summer in June. It's quite the optimistic statement from the 35-year-old veteran, but even if he's not quite full-go at the end of the team's offseason program, Cousins should be able to take part in training camp at the end of July. It's especially important since Cousins will be learning a new offense in Atlanta and trying to gel with his new receivers. The talent surrounding him shouldn't be a problem, as he'll have Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts to work with. Fantasy managers should be more considered about an aging QB coming off a serious injury.

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Kirk Cousins (Vikings) officially signed with the Atlanta Falcons Wednesday, March 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but an earlier report stated that it is a four-year contract worth $180 million.

From TheHuddle

Mar 11 11:25pm ET

Dynasty | The Atlanta Falcons have signed quarterback Kirk Cousins to four-year, $180 million contract. Dynasty Analysis: You like that! Cousins couldn't come to an agreement with the Vikings, hit free agency as the top quarterback available and cashed in quickly. He'll be an immediate upgrade over the likes of Desmond Ridder and Marcus Mariota and should breathe value into the dynasty values of Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson and Drake London, assuming he's recovered fully from his torn Achilles. Cousins is our QB19 based on his age but he could put up QB1 numbers this season.

Impending free agent QB Kirk Cousins (Vikings) agreed to a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to sources Monday, March 11. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Fantasy Spin: Cousins finds a new home in Atlanta with some intriguing weapons in Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts. He's still a high-end QB2 in value, but there's a chance he has some spike weeks in 2024.

From TheHuddle

Mar 11 2:40pm ET

Free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) is signing a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons, according to Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team. Cousins is recovering from a torn Achilles that knocked him out of the 2023 season early, but it didn't affect his value on the open market. The four-time Pro Bowler joins a roster with several young rising weapons, including running back Bijan Robinson, tight end Kyle Pitts, and receiver Drake London. He has passed for at least 4,000 yards in seven NFL seasons, so he should provide a nice value boost for his new supporting cast. The move means the Minnesota Vikings will be in search of a new starting quarterback, while the Falcons are likely to become the clear favorites in the weak NFC South.

From RotoBaller

Mar 11 11:23am ET

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins will hit the open market and begin speaking to the Atlanta Falcons when the tampering window opens Monday, March 11.

Fantasy Spin: Cousins is advancing in age and is coming off a torn Achilles, but he has taken a ton of hits and bounced back the last few years. He has still performed, maybe even over expectations. He'll be a midrange QB1 in fantasy wherever he goes, and he may fall in drafts based on the aforementioned worries.

From TheHuddle

Mar 10 8:00pm ET

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, impending free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) is expected to test the market when free agency opens on Monday. However, both Cousins and the Vikings will "remain in communication." The four-time Pro-Bowler has had an efficient career. In 150 regular season appearances, he's thrown for 39,471 yards, 270 touchdowns, and 110 interceptions. He's also completed nearly 70% of his tosses. While the 35-year-old has been one of the league's most durable signal-callers over the years, he was limited to just eight games last season because of a torn Achilles. That said, teams will take a chance by signing Cousins, considering he's coming off a devastating injury. His age also may make other organizations look in another direction. But Cousins, a quality fantasy quarterback since his days in Washington, should have at least a few more solid years left in the tank. With that in mind, his fantasy outlook will be contingent on where he's playing during the 2024-25 campaign, although he may be the most productive by staying in Minnesota.

From RotoBaller

Mar 8 2:53pm ET

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins (Achilles) is likely to 'figure out exactly what his market is,' according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Fantasy Spin: Cousins' current contract automatically voids on March 13, which would accelerate the entirety of his potential cap charge into 2024 if the two sides cannot reach an agreement by then. In other words, Minnesota has less than a week to get something done before it faces the real possibility of suffering a huge hit to next year's cap and losing its starting quarterback. If the two sides cannot finalize the deal before then, there is a good chance a team like the Atlanta Falcons will meet his demands. In either situation, Cousins should be considered a solid fantasy QB2 option at worst.

From TheHuddle

Mar 5 5:20pm ET

According to very credible sources, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) is seriously considering moving his family to Atlanta so that he can play for the Falcons. Unless Cousins re-signs with the Vikings by next Wednesday, March 13, he'll become an unrestricted free agent. The Falcons have always been the top alternative to the Vikings for Cousins. His wife, Julie, grew up in nearby Alpharetta, Georgia, and her parents still live there. Minnesota wants to keep Cousins around, but only at their price, and they seem to think he won't get a better deal elsewhere. Cousins is now 35 years old and is coming off a torn Achilles last season, so it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank, but a move to Atlanta would give him a strong running game with Bijan Robinson and some interesting receiving targets in Drake London and Kyle Pitts.
