Akers played seven games last season with the Rams and Vikings. He had 60 carries for 167 yards and had his season end early because of a torn Achilles. Akers did not have a double-digit fantasy game all season. This is the second torn Achilles for Akers, so his career really is in jeopardy at this point. There is a good chance he is not ready for the start of this season. Akers catches the ball well and has good moves in space. He can get to the next level in a hurry because of his top speed. He can be a solid three-down back. Akers has lacked consistency to start his career, which is a concern, and has huge injury concerns going forward.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Akers might be worth a free agent pickup once he is healthy and carves out a role in the offense. But until that happens, don't bother. He carries big risk because of his injury problems.

Free-agent running back Cam Akers (Achilles) agreed to a deal with the Texans. Houston hosted him for a workout on Sunday. Apparently, things went well, so he'll join a team that already has Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, and Dare Ogunbowale on the roster. Akers spent four seasons with the Rams before suiting up for the Vikings in 2023. He appeared in six contests for Minnesota, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown off 38 carries, adding 11 receptions for 70 yards. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old is coming off his second Achilles tear. At any rate, Akers' anticipated volume should help keep him on the field, assuming he remains with the team come Week 1. However, his reduced workload won't earn him a spot on most fantasy rosters.

The Houston Texans worked out veteran free-agent running back Cam Akers (Achilles) on Sunday, according to a source. The former second-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams has also drawn interest from the Minnesota Vikings, where he played in 2023 after a trade and suffering another torn Achilles. Akers played in six games last year in Minnesota and rushed for 138 yards and one touchdown, adding 11 catches for 70 yards. Houston also worked out RBs Deon Jackson and Miyan Williams earlier this week as they look for additional backfield depth behind Joe Mixon, Devin Singletary and Dare Ogunbowale, among others. The 25-year-old is going to need to prove he's fully healthy to get a shot as a depth option in the Texans' backfield, and he can be ignored heading into 2024 fantasy drafts.

Free-agent running back Cam Akers appears to be looking to return to the National Football League, with the 24-year-old posting a video on X of himself working out. Akers was once considered one of the NFL's most promising young players. His best season was in 2022, where he finished with 786 yards and seven touchdowns off 188 carries. Unfortunately, after struggling to remain healthy during his career, the Rams, the team he played on for four seasons, cut ties by trading him to Minnesota. Yet, he barely made a blip on the fantasy radar before the Vikings eventually declined to offer him a new contract. With that said, Akers could find himself on a new team for the 2024-25 campaign. However, while his talent has never been much of an issue, he won't do anything for fantasy managers if he can't stay on the field, no matter where he potentially signs.

Dynasty | The Vikings did not extend a contract offer to running back Cam Akers, making him a free agent. Dynasty Analysis: Akers' career has taken a nosedive as injuries have essentially robbed him of a lot of his explosiveness. After a good run in Los Angeles, he just couldn't make it work in Minnesota. With Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler leading the way now, the Vikings just didn't have room on their roster for him. Akers will try to latch on somewhere but his dynasty value (and career) seems to be hanging by a thread.
The Minnesota Vikings declined to offer a restricted free-agent tender to running back Cam Akers (Achilles), meaning he is a free agent and can negotiate freely with any team. The former second-round pick was an exciting prospect out of Florida State in 2020 but after two Achilles tears in four years in the NFL, his career has struggled to get off the ground. Akers was traded to the Vikings from the Los Angeles Rams early in the 2023 campaign and rushed 38 times for 138 yards and one touchdown before suffering a major Achilles injury. The 24-year-old might get a chance to play elsewhere, but it'll likely be on a cheap, one-year deal. For now, he remains far from the fantasy radar. The majority of skill players do not recover well from an Achilles tear, never mind two.
