Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell had nine rushing attempts for 24 yards in the Week 11 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, adding a season-high seven receptions on eight targets for 81 yards and receiving touchdowns. The 26-year-old played 63% of the offensive snaps, his second-highest mark of the year, but it coincided with lead back Jaylen Warren (ankle) getting injured in the third quarter and never returning. Warren said after Sunday's win that he could have retaken the field, but the decision to sit out the rest of the game "was part of being smart." It looks like Warren has avoided a serious injury, but fantasy managers with Warren rostered or who need RB depth should consider Gainwell a speculative pickup going into Week 12 against the Chicago Bears. Gainwell is only rostered in 32% of Yahoo leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell was a stud through the air during Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Gainwell saw increased playing time with Jaylen Warren (ankle) barely playing in the second half. The 26-year-old rushed the ball nine times and was held to 26 yards on the ground. However, Gainwell was excellent in the receiving game this weekend. He hauled in seven of his eight targets for 81 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win. Gainwell could see a larger workload if Warren is forced to miss time. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update. Gainwell could be a popular waiver wire addition ahead of the Week 12 matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Nov 16 8:50am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell continues to trend up ahead of Sunday's Week 11 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals. Gainwell is coming off a game against the Chargers that saw him play 52 percent of the offensive snaps, which was his third-highest mark of the season so far. Despite out-snapping Jaylen Warren, he had just two catches and zero carries. We expect to see Gainwell handle a sizable snap share once again after head coach Mike Tomlin told the media that Warren cannot occupy an every-down role. Whether this means the backfield will gradually shift to Gainwell remains to be seen. The comments are promising for Gainwell's managers, but it's too early to inject him into lineups after he touched the ball just twice last week. For now, he remains a bench stash.

Nov 11 3:20pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell has had a solid season while serving as the No. 2 back behind Jaylen Warren and could be in line for more opportunities moving forward. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Warren "simply cannot play every down" when asked if he should play more snaps. Gainwell has played mostly on pass downs with Warren healthy and actually outsnapped him 27 to 24 in Pittsburgh's Week 10 loss to the Chargers. The Steelers were trailing for most of the game, which led to the uptick in snaps for the 26-year-old, but he had only three receptions for four yards on four targets. Tomlin also pointed out that if the Steelers win more on third down, then Warren will get more touches. Pittsburgh was unable to sustain drives on Sunday night, going just two for 11 on third downs. Gainwell should continue to play a prominent role on late downs with the potential to fill in as the workhorse if Warren were to miss any time.

Nov 8 5:50pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell hasn't been able to make much of an impact lately. Last week, Gainwell rushed three times for -1 yards, while hauling in four of his five targets for 35 yards through the air in the win over the Indianapolis Colts. Gainwell has taken a backseat to Jaylen Warren in the backfield this season. The only time Gainwell had solid value was the week that Warren didn't play. Outside of that, Gainwell has seen minimal role on offense. Gainwell figures to see a handful of carries and a few targets in the receiving game. He won't carry viable fantasy value in Week 10 unless it's a high PPR league.

Nov 7 6:50pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell heads into a Sunday night game in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers with 52 carries for 220 yards and three rushing touchdowns in eight games in his first year in the Steel City. He has added 27 catches for 119 yards on 31 targets. Gainwell lost a yard on his three rushing attempts in the upset win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9, but he did tie a season high with 35 receiving yards on his four receptions. The 26-year-old also played 37% of the offensive snaps to rookie Kaleb Johnson's 8%, signaling that he's still the team's clear RB2 behind starter Jaylen Warren. Gainwell hasn't seen enough volume to make him a standalone starting option in fantasy behind Warren, but he's a decent handcuff in PPR leagues. If Warren were to go down with an injury, Gainwell would be a priority waiver-wire pickup.

Oct 31 10:20am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell has been all but an afterthought in the team's rushing attack since the return of backfield mate Jaylen Warren in Week 6. Warren missed a game earlier in the season with a knee injury, in which Gainwell erupted for 134 total yards and two rushing scores. However, following Pittsburgh's Week 5 bye, the latter has taken a backseat in terms of playing time and touch share. With the way things have been, fantasy managers can't trust the University of Memphis product to provide standalone value. While Gainwell would handle a majority of the work in the event Warren were to miss more time, he's presently better relegated to handcuff duties.

Oct 23 9:40am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell has cooled off significantly after his breakout Week 4 performance. With Jaylen Warren returning to full strength, Gainwell has managed just nine carries for 36 yards over the past two games. Over that span, Gainwell has played 36% of the snaps, while Warren has commanded 61%, establishing himself as the team's lead back. Gainwell now profiles as a third-down back and a handcuff option in fantasy formats. While Gainwell could offer some PPR upside, unless Warren misses time, Gainwell holds little standalone fantasy value moving forward.

Oct 21 9:00pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell was quiet in Week 7, handling just three carries for 14 yards and gaining only one yard on two receptions in a 33-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Meanwhile, backfield mate Jaylen Warren exploded for 158 total yards on 20 touches. Although Gainwell impressed when Warren missed Week 4, it is clear that he will operate in a purely complementary role as long as both backs are healthy. He could occasionally contribute in the passing game as a check-down option for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but Gainwell's standalone fantasy value has taken a significant hit over the past two weeks. The fifth-year pro will likely be dropped in shallow redraft leagues and should be viewed as a handcuff heading into a Week 8 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Oct 15 8:00pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell earned 12 opportunities in last week's win over the Cleveland Browns and should remain involved in another divisional matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7. With Jaylen Warren handling RB1 duties, Gainwell can't expect a heavy workload, but he could still make some noise for fantasy purposes. Cincinnati has struggled to contain opposing running backs both on the ground and through the air this season, surrendering the most fantasy points per game to the position. Gainwell doesn't need to be rostered in all redraft leagues, but he's a viable flex option in a pinch on Thursday night.

From RotoBaller

Oct 14 2:00pm CT

In Week 4, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren was a late inactive with a knee injury, and backup Kenneth Gainwell took full advantage of an expanded role, turning his 25 opportunities into 134 yards and two touchdowns. Following a Week 5 bye, Jaylen Warren was back in the lineup for the Steelers' Week 6 win over the Browns, pushing Gainwell back into a supporting role. Warren saw 31 snaps to Gainwell's 20, and out-touched him 13-12. The silver lining for Gainwell is that he caught all six of his targets, but turned that into only 14 yards. In a game that the Steelers led from start to finish and ran only 58 plays to the Browns' 74, it's entirely possible that Warren could have seen more work if not for it being his first game back. Warren is still the Steelers' starting back, but even if the team employs both players in a closer split, Gainwell lacks the explosiveness to turn his limited touches into anything that can be reliably trusted for fantasy.

From RotoBaller

Oct 10 10:30pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell played incredibly well in Week 4 and will return from a bye to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 6. Though he should still be involved, the return of Jaylen Warren (knee) certainly puts a cap on Gainwell's upside. To make matters worse, Gainwell will need to overcome a Cleveland defense that has limited opposing backs to the third-fewest fantasy points per contest. Because he can contribute in the passing game, Gainwell isn't entirely touchdown-dependent, but it's difficult to expect another big performance. Fantasy managers should treat Gainwell as a low-end flex option that can be started in a pinch this week.

From RotoBaller

Oct 9 9:40am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell exploded in Week 4's game in Ireland, but fantasy managers should temper expectations moving forward. With Jaylen Warren sidelined against the Minnesota Vikings, Gainwell took full advantage of the opportunity, racking up 134 total yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. With Warren practicing ahead of Week 6, the former Eagles back will return to his RB2 role in the offense. A tough Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns looms large, as Cleveland has allowed the fewest rushing yards in the NFL through five weeks. Even if he continues to earn touches behind Warren, Gainwell remains a risky fantasy start this week.

From RotoBaller

Oct 7 10:10am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell "looked like a lead back" in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings and "has earned more time," according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. With Steelers RB1 Jaylen Warren (knee) missing the team's final game before their bye week, Gainwell logged 134 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 25 total touches. Per Fowler, the Steelers are "hoping there are plenty of carries for both" running backs going forward. When Warren is healthy, Gainwell's role will likely be somewhat limited. Still, Gainwell should be a priority waiver wire addition heading into a Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Sep 30 8:30am CT

Steelers' RB Kenneth Gainwell scored an impressive 31.40 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 4 win against the Vikings. Gainwell ran for 99 yards and caught six passes for 35 yards with two touchdowns. It's the 1st time this season Gainwell scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Sep 29 8:20am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell was inserted into the number one running back role when Jaylen Warren (knee) was a late scratch from Sunday's contest against the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, the capital and largest city of Ireland. Gainwell tallied 99 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in the Steelers' 24-21 win over the Vikings. He also caught all six of his targets for 35 yards and scored from one and four yards out. Gainwell has solidified himself as the team's clear-cut number two back, and will be a hot waiver-wire pickup this week if he wasn't already rostered. With the Steelers heading into their Week 5 bye week, Warren may likely recover and return in Week 6 as the primary back for the Steelers; however, based on the way that Gainwell played on Sunday, it's likely he gets more involved down the stretch.

From RotoBaller

Sep 28 12:10pm CT

With Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren (knee) inactive on Sunday, Kenneth Gainwell performed well in the lead role, putting up 134 total yards and two touchdowns in a win against the Minnesota Vikings. Crucially, Gainwell was a highly involved pass catcher who saw a team-high six targets, all of which he caught, for 35 yards. He added 99 rushing yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns, a well-rounded day for managers who made him a late addition to their starting lineups. But with Pittsburgh on a bye in Week 5 and Warren likely to be back, Gainwell will likely return to the No. 2 role when the Steelers are back in action.
