San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan isn't ready to say if quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) will be able to return to play in Week 9 on Sunday against the New York Giants, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. "It's too early to say. I don't think it's a long shot. We'll see how he's doing on Wednesday," Shanahan said. Purdy has made slow and steady progress since aggravating his turf-toe injury in the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but his status for this week remains up in the air. In addition to Purdy's status, backup Mac Jones (knee) is dealing with a knee injury and is day-to-day this week. The 25-year-old Purdy will probably need to upgrade to a full practice this week to get the green light to return on Sunday against the Giants. San Fran's offense will receive a boost whenever Purdy can make his third start of the year, and he should immediately be on the low-end QB1 radar for fantasy football managers.

Oct 24 4:20pm CT

The San Francisco 49ers officially ruled out quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) for the Week 8 game at the Houston Texans this Sunday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Mac Jones will make yet another start. Purdy has not played since aggravating his turf-toe injury in Week 4 and has only played in two games so far in 2025. While he's been improving, Purdy has yet to upgrade to a full practice. His next chance to return will be in Week 9 on Sunday, Nov. 2, against the New York Giants. While it's been a frustrating year for anyone who drafted the 25-year-old signal-caller in fantasy, Purdy should be in play as a top-12 fantasy QB as soon as he's ready to return to the starting gig. In the meantime, Jones will make his sixth start of the year. The former first-rounder has been adequate as a fill-in for San Fran, but he's mostly been a low-end QB2 in fantasy with only six touchdown passes and four interceptions.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) is not expected to play in Sunday's Week 8 contest against the Houston Texans, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Specifically, Rapoport said that Purdy is "not quite yet" ready to return from his multi-game absence. The 25-year-old has been sidelined since Week 4 and has only appeared in two games so far, leaving Mac Jones as the team's fill-in starter. Jones has been serviceable through five starts, completing 67 percent of his passes for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. He'll get the nod again in Week 8, while Purdy directs his focus toward a potential return against the New York Giants in Week 9.

Oct 23 8:10pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) was limited in practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday due to a turf-toe injury, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Although Purdy is making progress after aggravating his turf-toe injury in Week 4, he is trending toward missing his sixth game of the year since he has been unable to upgrade to a full practice. The 25-year-old initially suffered a turf-toe injury in the season opener and missed Weeks 2 and 3 before returning in Week 4. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday that it would be a "stretch" for Purdy to return this weekend. His next chance to return will come in Week 9 against the New York Giants if he's ruled out for the Week 8 contest this Sunday against the Houston Texans. It's shaping up for Mac Jones to make yet another start against a tough Houston defense this Sunday. He'll be a low-end QB2 streamer in superflex leagues, at best.

Oct 23 11:20am CT

With the status of quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) still uncertain, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch noted that the Iowa State alum's style of play is what's keeping him off the field for an extended period of time. "Brock knows he plays a certain way. And he can't change the way he plays to make it easier to (get on the field)," said Lynch. "We're trusting Brock and we're trusting the doctors." As we've seen twice in 2025, turf toe can be a more severe injury than the name might suggest. Purdy's lengthy bout with the issue, while unfortunate, isn't the worst-case scenario, though he seems to have a good shot at being inactive again in Week 8. If that's the case, fellow signal-caller Mac Jones (knee, oblique) would again man the helm when San Fran faces the Houston Texans on the road.

Oct 22 6:00pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) will be limited in practice again on Wednesday, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said that "he's steadily getting better every week," according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic. Purdy suffered a turf-toe injury in the season opener, missed two games, and then aggravated it in Week 4. He has not played since and is questionable to return in the Week 8 game on the road in Houston against the Texans this Sunday. While Purdy is making slow progress, he's going to need to upgrade to a full practice session to be cleared to return under center on Sunday. Backup Mac Jones has played a very respectable QB in Purdy's absence this year, which has afforded the Niners the luxury of slow-playing Purdy's recovery. Fantasy managers should consider Purdy to be on the wrong side of questionable this week, but Week 9 versus the New York Giants could be much more realistic if he continues to make progress.

Oct 20 6:40pm CT

The San Francisco 49ers will continue to monitor quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) this week, and there is no certainty that he will return for the Week 8 contest on Sunday against the Houston Texans, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Purdy has been sidelined since aggravating his turf-toe injury in Week 4, and he has only played in two games through the first seven weeks due to the injury. According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, it could be a stretch for the 25-year-old to return this weekend, but it will all depend on how much he can do in practice leading up to Sunday's contest. Purdy was limited in three practices last week, and he will probably need to put in a full practice this week to have a realistic shot at returning. Fantasy managers should consider him on the wrong side of questionable as of right now. Mac Jones would make his third straight start in a tough matchup against Houston if Purdy misses a fifth game.

Oct 19 9:20am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) could return against the Houston Texans in Week 8, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The team has "hope" that he'll be able to suit up next Sunday, but Pelissero notes that he has not logged a full practice since Week 4. Furthermore, the 49ers don't intend to rush Purdy back, and he won't return to the starting lineup until he's fully healthy once again. Next week's set of practices will be the true test in determining whether the former seventh-round pick is capable of playing. In the meantime, Mac Jones will lead the 49ers' offense in Week 7 against Houston.

Oct 17 4:40pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) has been ruled out yet again and will not suit up for a Week 7 Sunday night clash against the Atlanta Falcons, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Purdy initially suffered a turf-toe injury in Week 1 and missed Weeks 2 and 3 before returning to aggravate his toe in Week 4. The 25-year-old has not played since then and will miss his fifth game in the last six weeks. Former New England Patriots QB Mac Jones will take over yet again and will be looking to bounce back from last week's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It remains to be seen if Purdy will be able to do enough in practice next week to make his return for a Week 8 game against the Houston Texans. With Purdy out at least one more week, Jones checks in once again as a low-end QB2 play against a much-improved Falcons defense.

Oct 16 6:40pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) remained a limited participant in Thursday's practice as he works his way back from the turf toe injury he suffered in Week 1. The 49ers have managed a 4-2 record in his absence, with veteran backup Mac Jones (knee, oblique) handling starting duties. While Purdy is unlikely to return in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, his continued presence at practice is a positive sign for his recovery timeline. The 49ers are expected to remain cautious with their young signal-caller, but the door appears open for a potential return in the coming weeks. Fantasy managers in superflex and two-quarterback formats should keep Purdy stashed, as his upside in a talented San Francisco offense makes him a valuable asset once he's back to full strength.

From RotoBaller

Oct 15 7:30pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) put in a limited practice on Wednesday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers are hoping that Purdy can put in more work at practice this week, which could potentially give him a chance to return to starting duties in Week 7 on Sunday Night Football against an improved Atlanta Falcons defense. Purdy suffered a turf-toe injury in Week 1 and missed Weeks 2 and 3. He then aggravated his toe injury in his return in Week 4 and hasn't played since. Backup Mac Jones (knee, oblique) has played well in Purdy's absence, but there's no question that Purdy is San Fran's starter when healthy. Purdy will likely need to put in a full practice to avoid a questionable tag this week. If he's able to return, he could be getting star tight end George Kittle (hamstring) back from Injured Reserve, too. In his two starts, Purdy has averaged 24.2 fantasy points, which ranks fourth among all QBs in 2025.

Oct 13 7:10pm CT

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday that quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) will be evaluated on Wednesday with the hope that he will be able to do more in practice this week, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Purdy aggravated a turf-toe injury in Week 4 and has now missed back-to-back games (four total this year). He did not practice at all last week, but he was seen working on his conditioning on side fields. The 25-year-old signal-caller is believed to be making progress, but his availability for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons will all depend on whether he can return to practice this week. There's no question that Purdy is San Fran's starting QB when healthy, but backup Mac Jones' strong play has given the 49ers the luxury of slow-playing Purdy's rehab from his toe injury. We should have a better idea of Purdy's chances of returning this weekend after the Niners hold a few practices later this week.

From RotoBaller

Oct 12 6:30am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) could return in Week 7, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Already ruled out for Week 6, Purdy will have missed four of six games going into next week. Mac Jones (oblique) is expected to play on Sunday, which should provide stability for a 49ers team that ranks second in the league in passing yards. The irony is that fantasy managers who took Purdy because of his reliability have gotten anything but, as injury issues have made his availability a weekly guessing game. If Purdy is finally ready to return full-time next week, he should once again deserve lineup consideration, especially in two-quarterback formats.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) has officially been ruled out for Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. Purdy was unable to practice all week, although he was seen working on side fields with trainers. The 25-year-old will now miss his second straight game (fourth overall this year) after aggravating a turf-toe injury in Week 4. The Niners have been mum on when Purdy might be able to return to the starting role under center, with his next chance at doing so coming in Week 7 versus the Atlanta Falcons. Backup Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is listed as questionable with multiple injuries this weekend, but he's expected to make his fourth start of the year. Jones has been battling a knee injury since early in the year, but despite that, he's managed to play effectively and efficiently with Purdy out. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting a second straight 300-yard game from Jones, but he'll be in play as a low-end QB2 streamer in superflex leagues.

From RotoBaller

Oct 9 4:40pm CT

For the second straight day of practice this week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) did not practice with the rest of the team, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. However, Purdy was seen doing conditioning on a side field in cleats. While it's good to see Purdy doing something on a side field, a second straight DNP this week is making it likely that he is going to miss a second straight game and fourth of the season after aggravating his turf-toe injury in his return in Week 4. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect the 25-year-old to play in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it's possible he won't be ready for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, either. Mac Jones (knee) has been playing at less than 100%, but he torched the Rams' defense in a win last Thursday night and looks set for his fourth start of the year on Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Oct 8 4:10pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) did not take part in the first practice of the week on Wednesday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Purdy suffered a turf-toe injury in the season opener and missed Weeks 2 and 3 before returning in Week 4, only to aggravate his toe. The 25-year-old missed his third game of the year in last Thursday's surprising upset win over the Los Angeles Rams. Purdy is progressing from his toe injury, but he remains week-to-week and could certainly miss his fourth game of the year in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is definitely going to need to return to practice in the next two days to even have a shot at playing on Sunday. Mac Jones (knee) has been banged up himself early this year, but he should be able to make a fourth start against Tampa if Purdy is ruled out later this week.
