2025 RTSports Outlook

Williams had a season to forget, his first away from the Chargers. He played with two teams, the Jets and Steelers. He had 21 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown in 18 games. He took a step backwards last year, struggling away from the Chargers. The good news is Williams signed back with the Chargers this offseason and could play a big role with his old team once again. He should challenge for a starting job. Williams has been inconsistent throughout his career. Williams has 1,000-yard seasons two of his last six. Williams is a tall, physical receiver that does well at catching nearly everything thrown his way. He is a tough cover because of his size and strength. His route running still isn't top notch but improved. He will have some drops along the way.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Williams is a wild card. He has some rebound potential this year but don't expect anything too crazy. He will be erratic for fantasy owners, making him more of a No. 4 or 5 fantasy receiver. He can get around 50 receptions for 750 yards and four touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams re-signed with his old team during the 2025 NFL offseason. Things have changed since he was last there. Gone is WR Keenan Allen, but wideout Ladd McConkey, fresh off a stellar rookie season, and rookie receiver Tre Harris, drafted by the team in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft, figure to be the team's top-2 targets. Williams tore his ACL in 2023, and didn't look like he had recovered well during his tenure with the Jets and Steelers last season. Williams is a contested catch specialist, using his big frame and long arms to snag jump balls and box out defenders, but as he's turning 31 years old in October, it's worth questioning how much he has left in the tank. His history is riddled with a ton of injuries, and his body could be cooked. Many players acquire so much damage to their bones, ligaments, joints, and muscles, that they simply can't perform to the level and NFL team needs. Williams shouldn't be fantasy relevant unless both McConkey and Harris get injured, and even then, it's more likely that the Chargers offense would just completely collapse. Williams is a fine player to avoid in all but the deepest leagues.

The Los Angeles Chargers have placed wide receiver Mike Williams (undisclosed) on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Los Angeles will start training camp later this week. The 30-year-old missed mandatory minicamp with an undisclosed injury, but Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh believed the veteran would be available for the start of activities in July. It's worth noting that Schefter reports a player can be transferred off the PUP at any time during the offseason, and it's mainly used as a roster management tool at this point in the year. It's at least mildly concerning that the nature of the injury is unknown, although Harbaugh doesn't seem to be too concerned about it. Williams disappointed last year in his first season back from an ACL tear with the Steelers, but he'll get a chance to redeem himself in his second stint with LA. Barring health, that is.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 14.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation to see when Williams will be able to take part in practices. He has worked with Justin Herbert in the past and is in line to be one of the starting receivers for the Chargers. He will see a handful of targets each game if healthy but probably will not be a starting fantasy options most weeks.

Los Angeles Chargers QB Mike Williams will help improve the offense, according to QB Justin Herbert. '50-50 balls are not quite 50-50, as we've seen with Mike,' Herbert said. 'You need a play , a big-time play, he's going to go up and make it.'

Fantasy Spin: Williams is coming off a down season, but a return to the Chargers, and Justin Herbert, could be just what the doctor ordered. At the very least, he should deliver some big plays, and he could emerge as the No. 2 option behind Ladd McConkey. Williams could be worth picking in the late rounds.

Jun 20 5:13pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers QB Mike Williams is expected to be one of the starting receivers this season because of his experience with QB Justin Herbert in the past.

Fantasy Spin: Williams has been held to under 300 receiving yards over the last two seasons but has a chance to be more involved in the passing game in 2025. He probably will see a decent amount of targets early in the season but can be avoided most weeks.

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that he expects wide receiver Mike Williams (undisclosed) to b ready for training camp at the end of July after missing mandatory minicamp this week due to an undisclosed injury. It's not a great start for Williams this offseason after a rough first season in 2024 coming back from an ACL tear. He's returning to the team that drafted him seventh overall back in 2017 out of Clemson after catching just 21 of 34 targets for 298 yards and one touchdown in 18 games (five starts) in 2024 with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. The 30-year-old veteran could rebound another year removed from major knee surgery, but the odds are probably against it in a run-first offense at his age. RotoBaller has Williams ranked as the No. 86 fantasy wideout. He should go undrafted in leagues with only 12 teams.

Dynasty | The Chargers have signed free agent Mike Williams. Dynasty Analysis: Williams is now four years removed from his last 1,000-yard season back in 2021. His last two years were a mess as he played just three games for Los Angeles in 2023 before being injured. He spent last year with the Steelers and Jets, posting 21 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown. He'll look to get back on track where he's called home for most of his career, but he looks like the third receiver at best. At this point, Williams looks more like a roster clogger than anything else.

The Los Angeles Chargers are signing free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million on Wednesday night, sources tell FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. Williams spent the first seven years of his career in L.A. and will now reunite with quarterback Justin Herbert as a big, physical downfield threat. The 30-year-old veteran never developed into the consistent pass-catcher they hoped he'd be when they took him seventh overall in 2017 out of Clemson, although he did have a 10-touchdown season in 2018 and reached the 1,000-yard mark twice. In his first year away from the Chargers in 2024, he spent time with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers and failed to make an impact, catching a combined 21 passes on 34 targets for 298 yards and just one score in 18 games (five starts). Due to familiarity and opportunity, Big Mike should be able to bounce back as a starter with the Bolts, but consistency could be a real issue.
