The Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans are two of the top teams trying to trade for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed this offseason, but Sneed's asking price is too high right now, according to a source. For now, Sneed remains with the Chiefs on the $19.8 million franchise tag for 2024. The 27-year-old former fourth-round pick by KC in 2020 out of Louisiana Tech was the No. 37 defensive back in IDP fantasy scoring last year with 78 tackles (60 solo), five tackles for loss, two interceptions, a career-high 14 passes defended and a fumble recovery in 16 regular-season starts. Sneed has thrived in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's scheme in his four years in Kansas City and was a big part of the team's Super Bowl run last year. With the Chiefs focused on an extension for pass-rusher Chris Jones, the likeliest outcome will be Sneed moving to another team this offseason.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed star defensive tackle Chris Jones to a five-year contract on Saturday. His new deal includes $95 million guaranteed. It's the highest-ever annual salary for a defensive tackle. The All-Pro lineman surpasses Aaron Donald annually but still puts him behind Nick Bosa as the highest-paid defensive player. Jones sat out Week 1 of last season during a contract dispute with the Chiefs but eventually settled on a one-year deal ahead of Week 2's contest against the Jaguars. The 29-year-old racked up 30 tackles and 10.5 sacks, including 29 quarterback hits over 16 games in 2023. Jones solidifies the Chief's defensive line and is the heart and soul of Kansas City's defense as they vie for their third straight Super Bowl title.

There is "growing optimism" that the Kansas City Chiefs and impending free-agent defensive tackle Chris Jones will work out a long-term contract extension before the start of free agency on March 11, according to league sources. "He should get a massive deal from the Chiefs," an NFL source said. General manager Brett Veach acknowledged on Tuesday that re-signing Jones is the team's top priority. The two sides couldn't get something done last offseason, which led to Jones holding out through the first week of the regular season. Similar to 2023, Jones wants a contract that will pay him an average annual salary of $30 million, which would make him the league's third highest-paid defensive player behind Nick Bosa and Aaron Donald. He's the heartbeat of KC's offense, leading them last year with 10.5 sacks and 29 QB hits.

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said on Tuesday that the team would like to get a long-term contract extension done with impending free-agent defensive tackle Chris Jones this offseason. "Just like last year our goal and intent is hopefully to get something long term done," Veach said. Jones missed the season opener in 2023 while holding out for a new deal, and he eventually signed a one-year contract before helping the Chiefs win their second straight Super Bowl championship. It would be a surprise if the 29-year-old pass-rusher wasn't able to work something out with the club. The former second-round pick in 2016 out of Mississippi State has been a Pro Bowler each of the last five seasons and has accumulated 26 sacks in the last two years alone. He's the heartbeat of KC's defense up front.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is set to be back with the organization next season. The All-Pro tackle was a big reason why the Chiefs were able to win back-to-back championships. The expectation is that the two sides will come to terms on a long-term deal. If they don't, then it could be rather costly for the Chiefs to keep Jones around next season. Due to his 2023 cap numbers, Jones' projected franchise tag is currently sitting at $32 million. That is a huge jump from the $19.7 million that it was originally projected to be. At the end of the day, it would likely be beneficial for both sides to come to a long-term deal. If not, it's hard to imagine the Chiefs using the franchise tag on Jones this summer.

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up the option on All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones' contract on Friday, according to sources, retaining the right to franchise tag him while paying him $4.25 million that he earned in incentives in 2023. Jones was already due the money, and if he's not franchise-tagged in 2024, he'll become a free agent. The goal for the Chiefs is still to sign Jones to a long-term contract to keep the star pass-rusher with the team as they look to continue their dynasty after back-to-back Super Bowl championships. If Jones plays the 2024 season on the franchise tag, it will cost the Chiefs $19.75 million. Either way, Jones is in line for a massive payday with 75.5 career sacks. He has been a first-team All-Pro each of the last two years and a Pro Bowler the last five seasons.

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones said at the team's championship parade on Wednesday that he isn't going anywhere. The Chiefs would love to have Jones back after he has made five consecutive Pro Bowls and been named a first-team All-Pro in each of the last two seasons. The 29-year-old former second-round pick in 2016 out of Mississippi State had 30 tackles (20 solo), 10.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss and 29 QB hits in 16 regular season starts in his eighth year in Kansas City in 2023 after sitting out in Week 1 due to a contract holdout. Despite being an interior defensive lineman, he's been a key contributor for fantasy managers in IDP leagues with 26 sacks total over the last two years. It would be a surprise if KC doesn't find a way to bring him back in 2024 as they try for the NFL's first-ever three-peat.

Feb 8 6:30pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said the team is making it an offseason priority to try to re-sign both defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. "It's extremely hard because you have two keystone players there," Veach said. Jones, 29, has been of the league's best pass-rushers for years and had 10.5 sacks in 2023 to tie him for the team lead despite missing training camp and Week 1 due to a contract holdout. Sneed, 27, was used to defend opposing teams' top receivers most of the time, and nobody had big games against him. Both Jones and Sneed were vital to an improved Chiefs defense that allowed fewer points than all but one other team during the regular season.

Dec 8 6:20am ET

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones hasn't made a sack in the past two weeks, and that trend isn't likely to change in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have allowed the fewest sacks this season. In his past three games, Josh Allen has only been taken down twice. Jones is coming off a zero-tackle game against the Green Bay Packers, his second of the season. After a career year in 2022, Jones is making fewer tackles and fewer QB hits, and he is not a consistent producer in IDP fantasy football.
