2024 RTSports Outlook

The Cardinals got some insurance for the aging James Conner, picking Benson in the third round of this year's draft. Benson is a speed burner that can get to the next level in a hurry and is an asset in the passing game. He can get though the hole in a hurry but lacks a little patience at times. Benson will be the top backup for the Cardinals his rookie season and should get plenty of work on third downs, utilizing his pass-catching ability.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Benson has some value his rookie season but it is a little limited with Conner around. He will look a lot better in a few seasons. But even with that said, he has some value a reserve fantasy back. He should have a decent floor because of his reception totals. He can get around 800 total yards, 40 receptions and four or five touchdowns.

The Arizona Cardinals took running back Trey Benson in the third round of this year's NFL draft, and it's unlikely that he will take over lead-back duties from James Conner this year, even though Conner hasn't shown that he's up to bell-cow duties in the NFL. Mainly because of injuries, Conner has posted between 200 and 250 touches in each of the last four seasons with the Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers, never playing in more than 15 games. Conner has been a pretty big injury risk for fantasy managers, but when he's been on the field, he's been impressive. The 28-year-old had 5.1 yards per touch in 2023. However, with Benson now in the fold, Arizona's backfield could easily evolve into a platoon situation that turns both Conner and Benson into solid RB2 candidates.

The Arizona Cardinals selected Florida State running back Trey Benson with the 66th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Benson could be the most complete running back in the draft class. He excelled at breaking tackles, setting the single-season FBS record by forcing 0.51 missed tackles per run. The 21-year-old also possesses great breakaway speed with 14 runs of 20 or more yards (ninth in FBS). Last season, Benson ran for 906 yards on the ground and 227 through the air and 15 total scores. He will join veteran James Connor, who could limit his fantasy value early on, but he should be an early second-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts.

Dynasty | Florida State running back Trey Benson had an overall positive NFL Scouting Combine performace. Dynasty Analysis: Benson ran a solid 4.39 40 and was reportedly very impressive in positional drills. This comes as little surprise as those who have studied Benson have likely come away pretty impressed. In a year where there is no dominant running back prospect, Benson could very well be the first one taken off the board when it comes to the NFL Draft. Texas running back Jonathon Brooks surprisingly chose not to participate in the combine and Benson likely took advantage here. While there are lots of evaluations to do, Benson looks the part of a solid prospect who should be in the mix with the elite receivers in round one of rookie drafts.
