2024 RTSports Outlook

Akers had a strange season. He was a bust early on but regained his footing late in the year and started once again, producing great down the stretch. He had double-digit fantasy points six straight games to end the season. He had 100-yard rushing games three straight to end the year. Akers looked like the starter the Rams envisioned in their offense. Akers was actually seventh in football in rushing yards after contact per rush (2.2). He finished the year with 903 total yards and seven touchdowns. Akers still is up in the air for this year but could grab the starting job and run with it if he keeps up his play from late in the year. Akers catches the ball well and has good moves in space. He can get to the next level in a hurry because of his top speed. He is a legit three-down back. Akers has lacked consistency to start his career, which is a concern.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Akers is a boom or bust fantasy pick. He showed great late last year but was a huge bust early in the season. You just don't know what you will get with him, especially since the Rams' brass doesn't seem completely sold on him anymore. Take him as a No. 3 back and hope for him to build on his late-season surge. For now, look for around 1,200 total yards and seven touchdowns.

Dynasty | The Vikings did not extend a contract offer to running back Cam Akers, making him a free agent. Dynasty Analysis: Akers' career has taken a nosedive as injuries have essentially robbed him of a lot of his explosiveness. After a good run in Los Angeles, he just couldn't make it work in Minnesota. With Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler leading the way now, the Vikings just didn't have room on their roster for him. Akers will try to latch on somewhere but his dynasty value (and career) seems to be hanging by a thread.

The Minnesota Vikings declined to offer a restricted free-agent tender to running back Cam Akers (Achilles), meaning he is a free agent and can negotiate freely with any team. The former second-round pick was an exciting prospect out of Florida State in 2020 but after two Achilles tears in four years in the NFL, his career has struggled to get off the ground. Akers was traded to the Vikings from the Los Angeles Rams early in the 2023 campaign and rushed 38 times for 138 yards and one touchdown before suffering a major Achilles injury. The 24-year-old might get a chance to play elsewhere, but it'll likely be on a cheap, one-year deal. For now, he remains far from the fantasy radar. The majority of skill players do not recover well from an Achilles tear, never mind two.

Dynasty | An MRI confirmed Cam Akers tore is Achilles tendon, ending his 2023 season Dynasty Analysis: A brutal break for Akers and his dynasty coaches. Akers had already torn his right Achilles in 2021 and made a miraculous comeback. This injury is to his left ankle. While there's every possibility Akers stuns the NFL again with a quick comeback, it's simply too material of a second injury to keep him from falling completely off DLF's dynasty rankings. There's plenty of data suggesting one Achilles is enough to end a running back's career, let alone two. Dynasty coaches participating in deep-roster formats may elect to hold onto to Akers but most others will be cutting bait entirely. Akers is found as DLF's RB38, but that will changer significantly in the week to come.
