Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery recorded 48 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Week 13, breaking his three-game scoreless streak. However, Montgomery earned just eight carries, marking the third straight game in which he's failed to reach double-digit rush attempts. In Week 14, Montgomery will square off against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has been playing much better against the run in recent weeks. Over their last three games, the Cowboys have allowed an average of just 69 rushing yards per contest. With the Lions leaning heavily on star running back Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery has played fewer than 39% of Detroit's offensive snaps in four of his last five games. As long as that workload split persists, Montgomery profiles as a touchdown-dependent flex option for fantasy managers.

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery broke his three-game touchdown-less streak in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers, recording 48 scrimmage yards and a score on 10 touches. While finding the end zone is obviously a positive for Montgomery, his overall workload trends continue to be worrying for fantasy managers. The 28-year-old has now played 39% or fewer of his team's offensive snaps in four out of Detroit's last five games. If there's one positive for Montgomery going forward, the Lions will be getting former All-Pro center Frank Ragnow back from retirement in the coming weeks, which should greatly improve the struggling interior of their offensive line. Still, Montgomery appears entirely dependent on touchdowns for fantasy production, which will be difficult to predict every week. He faces a rapidly improving Dallas Cowboys defense in Week 14.

Detroit Lions RB David Montgomery carried eight times for 32 yards and a touchdown and caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers.
Fantasy Spin: Head coach Dan Campbell promised Montgomery would see more usage in this game than he had seen recently and that partly proved to be the case, although one might not call 10 touches all that much of a boost after seven and eight in the previous two weeks, respectively. With that said, his touchdown from 3 yards out was his first in four games. Montgomery has a good shot of returning low-end RB2 value again next Thursday when the Lions host the Dallas Cowboys, who enter Week 13 as a top-five matchup for running backs.
From TheHuddle
In recent weeks, Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has seemingly faded into a secondary role in his team's offense. The 28-year-old has failed to score a touchdown in five out of his last six games, and he's totaled just 74 scrimmage yards on 15 touches over the last two weeks. A tough Week 13 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day seems like an unlikely spot for Montgomery to break out of his slump. Entering Week 13, Green Bay has allowed the sixth-fewest yards per carry (3.9) and rushing touchdowns (eight) in the NFL. In Detroit's first matchup with the Packers in Week 1, Montgomery recorded just 43 scrimmage yards on 15 touches. The Lions will also be shorthanded on their offensive line in Week 13 as both left guard Christian Mahogany (leg) and center Graham Glasgow (knee) are out. Montgomery profiles as a low-end flex option for fantasy managers against the Packers.

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery was held in check by the New York Giants in Week 12, recording 37 scrimmage yards on eight touches in his team's overtime win. The 28-year-old played just 34% of Detroit's offensive snaps against New York, the third time in four games since the Lions' Week 8 bye that he's failed to reach the 40% mark. Once one of the league's most reliable touchdown scorers, Montgomery has now failed to hit pay dirt in five out of his last six games. He's recorded single-digit touches in consecutive weeks and 40 or fewer rushing yards in six out of his last eight outings. All indications suggest that Montgomery is fading into a true RB2 role in Detroit, behind star running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Fantasy managers may want to avoid Montgomery when the Lions will face one of the league's best defenses in the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day in Week 13.

Detroit Lions RB David Montgomery ran five times for 18 yards in a Week 12 OT win over the New York Giants
Fantasy Spin: Montgomery did a lot of watching of his backfield mate in this one, and now has sub-10 carries in his last two outings after 10-plus in his previous three. Montgomery has found the end zone five times this season and is worth a bench spot in most fantasy formats.
From TheHuddle
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery was held in check by the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11, recording 27 rushing yards on just six carries. Montgomery has now failed to score a touchdown in four out of his last five games, cracking 45 rushing yards just once in that span. While there's no question Montgomery has taken a backseat to Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs this season, there could be reason for optimism around Montgomery's outlook for Week 12 against the New York Giants. Through 11 weeks, New York is allowing the most yards per carry (5.5) to opposing running backs in the NFL. The Giants have also given up 15 rushing touchdowns, tied for second-most among NFL defenses. If there's a game for Montgomery to rediscover his touchdown-scoring ways, it could be against New York. Fantasy managers should view him as a solid RB2 option in Week 12.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said he'd "always" like to get running back David Montgomery more carries, according to Eric Woodyard of ESPN. Montgomery does have double-digit rushing attempts in seven of 10 games this year, including in three of the last four games. But he was more of an afterthought in Sunday night's 16-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, carrying the ball only six times for 27 yards and catching his only target for 10 yards. The game script in Week 11 was not in the 28-year-old's favor, that's for sure. Detroit should have a better game script this weekend on the road against the one-win Tennessee Titans, so fantasy managers will be banking on him getting more involved on the ground again. Backfield mate Jahmyr Gibbs is much more dynamic than Montgomery in both the run and pass game, which has made Monty more of a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex in fantasy in 2025.

Detroit Lions RB David Montgomery posted six runs for 27 yards in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles, while adding a 10-yard reception on his lone target.
Fantasy Spin: Montgomery saw his targets taken by Jahmyr Gibbs, who was used catching more balls out of the backfield than usual, since Gibbs struggled in the run game a bit. That cost Montgomery, as he was barely used. He remains a solid low-end RB2 or flex fantasy option in most leagues, still, and he should have a lot more production in Week 12 against the visiting New York Giants.
From TheHuddle
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery rushed for an efficient 71 yards on 15 carries in a Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders, but he failed to score a touchdown for the third time in his last four games. The result was a modest fantasy performance for Montgomery, which will likely be the case every week that he fails to find the end zone. Montgomery has just 14 receptions across nine games this season, as fellow Lions back Jahmyr Gibbs is the clear receiving threat in Detroit's backfield. In Week 11, Montgomery and the Lions will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. While the Eagles' defense is a tough unit to score on overall, it is tied for the sixth-most rushing touchdowns allowed (11) in the NFL so far this season. If the Detroit offense can work its way into goal-to-go situations, Montgomery could have a decent chance to hit pay dirt. He profiles as a low-end fantasy RB2 in Week 11 against Philadelphia.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery recorded 15 carries for 71 yards and punched in a successful two-point conversion try in his team's 44-22 Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders. The 28-year-old has now rushed for 466 yards and five touchdowns on 104 attempts across nine games so far this season. With 14 catches for 106 yards and zero receiving touchdowns, Montgomery has seen minimal usage in the Lions' passing game. He also has a limited ceiling in terms of total touches as long as fellow Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs remains healthy. As a result, Montgomery is almost entirely dependent on touchdown scoring for fantasy production, even when he has an efficient rushing day like he did in Week 10. Montgomery may be tough for fantasy managers to trust in a tough Week 11 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions RB David Montgomery rushed 15 times for 71 yards and didn't gain a yard on his lone reception in a 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 10.
Fantasy Spin: Montgomery split carries evenly with Jahmyr Gibbs, but the latter doubled up Montgomery in rushing yards and scored three total touchdowns. Montgomery remains a valuable part of the Detroit offense, but he is a flex option with occasional RB2 upside.
From TheHuddle
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery broke his two-game scoreless streak in Week 9, recording 50 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 12 touches against the Minnesota Vikings. However, Montgomery also coughed up a crucial fumble that played a key role in Detroit's loss to its division rival. The veteran has a lot of equity built up with the Lions coaching staff, so it's unlikely that the mistake will cost him playing time in Week 10 against the Washington Commanders. Montgomery has seen fairly consistent usage so far this season, recording between 12 and 15 touches in five out of eight games played. He remains largely dependent on touchdowns for high-end fantasy production. The Commanders have allowed an average of 33.8 points per game over the last four weeks, so Montgomery should have a decent chance to find the end zone. He profiles as a low-end fantasy RB2 in Week 10 against Washington.

From FantasyLife
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery broke his two-game scoreless streak in Week 9, recording 51 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 13 touches against the Minnesota Vikings. However, the veteran also fumbled in a key spot, leading to points for Minnesota that were critical in Detroit's 27-24 loss to its division rival. Montgomery out-touched fellow Lions back Jahmyr Gibbs against the Vikings, but neither back was particularly efficient with their opportunities. Montgomery's workload has been fairly stable for much of 2025, as he's recorded between 12 and 15 touches in five out of eight games. The 28-year-old's minimal role in the passing game and limited rushing workload while sharing time with Gibbs make Montgomery very reliant on touchdowns for fantasy production. He profiles as a low-end fantasy RB2/high-end flex option heading into a Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
