Minnesota Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer had a forgettable first NFL start, throwing four interceptions in a disastrous 26-0 loss at Seattle. The undrafted rookie on the road against one of the NFL's top defenses went as expected, as Brosmer finished 19-for-30 passing for 126 yards and threw an awful pick-six in the first half that gave Seattle a double-digit lead it held for the rest of the day. From a fantasy perspective, playing Brosmer was a huge risk that came up totally empty. Star receiver Justin Jefferson finished with two catches and four yards receiving, while the offense gained only 162 total yards. Whether Brosmer plays again will be determined by starter J.J. McCarthy (concussion), who would need to clear protocol to return for a Week 14 game against Washington.

The Minnesota Vikings will turn to undrafted rookie Max Brosmer in Week 13 at Seattle, but fantasy managers should consider him the single biggest risk of the weekend. Already without backup Carson Wentz (shoulder) following season-ending surgery, the Vikings will once again be without starter J.J. McCarthy (concussion), who was unable to clear protocol in time to play. The Vikings have a talented group of skill players led by receiver Justin Jefferson, but the Seahawks' defense has allowed scoring drives on fewer than 31% of opposing possessions, which is the second-best mark in the NFL. Ranked as RotoBaller's No. 32 fantasy quarterback this week, Brosmer is a huge unknown facing unfriendly circumstances, making him a tough start in any format.

Even though Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (concussion) was able to participate in a limited practice on Wednesday, rookie Max Brosmer took all of the first-team reps, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN. McCarthy came down with a concussion in the Week 12 loss to the Green Bay Packers and is not expected to play in this week's game in Seattle against the Seahawks, so the Vikings are preparing Brosmer to make the first start of his career. The undrafted free-agent rookie QB will be thrown to the wolves on the road this Sunday against a strong Seahawks defense, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect a whole lot from the Vikings' offense. McCarthy has been extremely inconsistent in his first year of NFL action, but Brosmer won't necessarily be an upgrade. The 24-year-old has gone just 5-for-8 passing for 42 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in parts of three games played in 2025.

If Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (concussion) isn't cleared from the league's concussion protocol in time, rookie undrafted free-agent QB Max Brosmer would make the start against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in Week 13, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That would make Seattle's defense/special teams unit a must-start in all fantasy formats. Brosmer has seen action in four games in his first year in the NFL, going 5-for-8 for 42 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. The 24-year-old Minnesota product should handle first-team reps in practice early in the week with McCarthy still in the concussion protocol. McCarthy has really struggled as the starter under center in 2025 after missing his entire rookie season due to a knee injury, but Brosmer could be a downgrade for the Vikings' offense if he's forced into action this weekend.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer shouldn't be a factor in fantasy this Sunday when the team takes on the hosting Detroit Lions. Although he gains some modest fantasy appeal, considering he's the second-string option behind fellow rookie signal-caller J.J. McCarthy (ankle). If all goes according to plan, McCarthy is Minnesota's starting QB moving forward. Encouragingly, he logged a full practice on Wednesday for the first time since Week 2. However, the high-ankle sprain he's been battling may linger, leaving Brosmer as the Vikes' only other option at QB. While fantasy managers may not call upon him in Week 9, the 24-year-old should at least be stashed in superflex dynasty leagues on the off-chance his team needs him down the stretch. In three appearances, he's completed 5-of-8 passes for 42 yards.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Tuesday that quarterback Max Brosmer will step into the No. 2 role this week with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) "expected to have a full week of prep" as the team prepares to face the division-rival Detroit Lions in Week 9, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. Veteran Carson Wentz will have season-ending left-shoulder surgery, so the Vikings are now left with two young, inexperienced signal-callers on their active roster. It's possible Minnesota could make a move to add a veteran QB before next Tuesday's trade deadline, but as long as he's over the high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2, McCarthy is expected to be the team's starting QB. Brosmer has appeared in three games in 2025, going 5-for-8 passing for 42 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He remains off the fantasy radar.

Oct 28 10:20am CT

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is expected to return in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions from an ankle injury that has sidelined him since Week 2. However, with veteran quarterback Carson Wentz (shoulder) dealing with a significant shoulder injury, undrafted rookie QB Max Brosmer is now the next man up in Minnesota if McCarthy's injury woes continue. Brosmer has appeared in three games so far this season, mostly in mop-up duty. While playing for the University of Minnesota in 2024, Brosmer completed 66.5% of his passes for 2,828 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions across 13 games. Given that McCarthy has been unavailable for 23 out of 25 possible games in his career, there's a real chance that Brosmer could be pressed into action. He could be a name to monitor in deep two-quarterback fantasy leagues until McCarthy establishes himself as the clear QB1 for the Vikings.

Oct 21 9:00am CT

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer could be the team's starter on Thursday night, when they visit the Chargers on a short week. Carson Wentz (shoulder) has started the last four games for Minnesota, but he was banged up again in the team's loss to the Eagles on Sunday. If he can't recover in time for Thursday, it seems likely that Brosmer would get the nod over J.J. McCarthy (ankle), who is eligible to return from IR but doesn't seem to be ready to return to action. Coach Kevin O'Connell has made it clear he doesn't want to rush McCarthy back, and with limited practice reps this week, it seems unlikely he'd go to McCarthy as the starter. Brosmer is an undrafted rookie free agent the Vikings signed out of Minnesota, and he'd likely be a downgrade for the rest of the Vikings' passing game in a tough matchup against the Chargers. Stay tuned for Wentz updates from the team's practice reports this week, and be familiar with Brosmer as his potential replacement if McCarthy needs more time.

Aug 23 7:50am CT

The Minnesota Vikings gave quarterback Max Brosmer a long look Friday, during which he completed 15 of 23 passes for 161 and a touchdown. The undrafted rookie nearly had an even better night statistically, but a perfect long ball that would have converted a fourth down and set up first-and-goal was dropped. Of the quarterbacks on the Vikings' current roster, Sam Howell still seems most likely to back up starter J.J. McCarthy, though Brosmer has made a compelling case to stick around in Minnesota.

From RotoBaller

Aug 16 6:00pm CT

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer earned extended playing time Saturday against the New England Patriots, completing 15 of 27 passes for 156 yards and an interception. It was a decent if unremarkable showing for the undrafted rookie, who played his final season of college football at the University of Minnesota and has made an interesting case the be the Vikings' third quarterback. Brosmer is unlikely to hold much fantasy value beyond a taxi squad lottery ticket, but has been a solid preseason performer for the Vikings thus far.
