San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) said he recently ditched the walking boot he'd been wearing since suffering a torn Achilles in the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in early February. It's a big step for Greenlaw, but he still has a lot of boxes to check off if he wants to be ready for the Week 1 regular season opener this fall. The 26-year-old is a remarkable athlete, but expecting him to be full-go for the start of the 2024 season seems like a long shot given the severity of his injury. When healthy, the former fifth-round pick in 2019 out of Arkansas is a staple in IDP fantasy formats at the linebacker position. Greenlaw has had 100-plus combined tackles in each of the last two seasons. In 15 regular-season games for the Niners last year, he totaled 120 tackles (75 solo), a career-high 1.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and four passes defended.

Veteran free-agent linebacker De'Vondre Campbell is signing a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The former Atlanta Falcon, Arizona Cardinal, and Green Bay Packer was named to the 2021 All-Pro team, the only such honor of his career. Through Campbell's first 115 NFL games, he has collected 779 tackles, 9.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, seven interceptions, 28 passes defended, and 38 run stuffs. The 49ers originally planned to sign Eric Kendricks, but he decided to sign with the Dallas Cowboys instead. Campbell was the next option, and he's likely to start alongside Fred Warner early in the 2024 season while Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) recovers from a torn Achilles that he suffered in the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) had successful surgery on Thursday to fix a torn left Achilles tendon, according to a source. Greenlaw suffered a full tear while running from the sideline onto the field during Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday versus the Kansas City Chiefs in the second quarter. He will make a full recovery, but there's a good chance he might not be ready to go for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall. The 26-year-old's injury was a crushing blow for the Niners in their 25-22 overtime loss to KC. Greenlaw was phenomenal during the regular season, recording 120 tackles on 811 defensive snaps played. When he's healthy enough to return later this year, he'll return to his key role as a starter for San Fran's D.

The San Francisco 49ers believe that linebacker Dre Greenlaw tore his Achilles during Sunday's Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The unconventional injury occurred while Greenlaw was jogging onto the field. He was taken to the medical tent before being carted to the locker room, where he was eventually ruled out. At the time of his departure, he had registered three tackles. Oren Burks and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles should handle more snaps for the rest of the game. It's too early to tell whether the injury will force Greenlaw to miss part of the 2024 regular season.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) officially tore his Achilles in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday in the overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Greenlaw suffered the devastating injury while simply running onto the field in the second quarter. It was a big loss for the 49ers defense the rest of the way in the 25-22 loss, as the 26-year-old was excellent all year, amassing 120 tackles (75 solo), a career-high 1.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, four QB hits and four passes defensed in 15 regular season starts in his fifth year with the team. Greenlaw will now face a long and grueling rehab this offseason and probably isn't going to be ready for training camp this summer. Before going down with the fluke injury in the Super Bowl, he had just three assisted tackles in the first half.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) is active ahead of Saturday's playoff matchup against the Green Bay Packers. His status was uncertain coming into this game after Greenlaw was forced to sit out in Week 18. Possibly, the 49ers were just playing it safe in an attempt to avoid a bigger injury. Regardless, Greenlaw will be out there and is expected to continue to have a significant role in this defensive unit.
