2024 RTSports Outlook

Watson got off to a slow start his rookie season, but showed his big-time potential the second half of the year. He had 20-plus fantasy points four of his last eight games and had double-digit points six of those games. Watson had 611 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games. He will be the No. 1 receiver in the Packers offense this year, an offense with a new quarterback at the helm. Watson is a tall receiver that can get downfield in a hurry. He can separate in a hurry and has top speed for the position. He lacks a little polish with his route running, though, and might need to add a little strength.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Watson is a bit of a wild card. His season really depends on how well Jordan Love plays. If Love can play well, Watson could be huge. But because of the uncertainty surrounding Love, we would considered Watson a low-end No. 2 or 3 fantasy receiver. Look for around 80 receptions for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Green Bay Packers feel that they have a better grasp of where wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) stands after he underwent a body scan at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this offseason with the hope of preventing future flare-ups. Watson has battled hamstring injuries in both of his two seasons in the NFL, with the 6-foot-4, 208-pounder missing eight games in 2023, playing just 446 offensive snaps. It hasn't just been hamstring injuries for the 24-year-old, and he's played in only 23 games in his first two seasons to quickly develop an injury-prone label. But when healthy, he's caught 69 of 119 targets for 1,033 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding two rushing scores. There's intriguing upside given the nature of Green Bay's improving offense under quarterback Jordan Love, but Watson's durability makes him a risk/reward fantasy selection heading into his third year.

Jan 22 2:30pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has played in just 23 of 34 possible games since being selected by the organization in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, mostly due to lower-body injuries. This season, the speedster was held out of eight games because of lingering hamstring issues. According to Ryan Wood of USA Today, Watson is planning to undergo offseason tests to understand why he's had so many hamstring injuries. On resolving the issue, Watson said "I'm not going to say it's my fault, but it's my body, so I need to take accountability for it." The 24-year-old has flashed big-play ability when healthy, averaging 15.0 yards per reception to start his career. However, his inability to be available has been an issue for him and the Packers' young offense. If he can stay healthy, he has plenty of fantasy football upside in 2024, especially now that Jordan Love looks like a high-end franchise quarterback.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson caught one of his two targets for an 11-yard gain during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The second-year receiver was an afterthought in the Packer's passing attack for the second week in a row and nabbed just one reception. It brings an end to a disappointing season riddled with injury for Watson, who had a good three-game stretch from Weeks 11-13 but did little else all year. Fantasy managers are going to enter the offseason questioning whether or not Watson is the unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver after a strong campaign from rookie Jayden Reed and the slew of other weapons at the Packers' disposal. The 24-year-old will not cost nearly as much as he did in drafts last year, but his value may fluctuate heading into the 2024 regular season.

Jan 19 12:50pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson will go on the road to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday. The second-year receiver was limited in practice this week due to a lingering hamstring injury but was left off the final injury report. Last week marked Watson's first game since Week 13, but he caught just one pass for nine yards and played only 41% of the snaps. His role should increase this week as he is another week removed from the injury that cost him the end of the regular season. San Francisco has struggled at times to stop wide receivers this past season and is tied for the ninth-most touchdowns allowed in the position. Watson is an incredibly risky play, but knowing he can have a multi-touchdown game at any time, he could be worth the price as a flex in DFS formats.

Jan 17 7:20pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Christian Watson (hamstring) and Jayden Reed (chest) were both listed as limited in practice for the second straight day this week on Wednesday. Watson missed the final games of the regular season but returned for the wild-card win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and played just 41 percent of the offensive snaps while catching one pass for a nine-yard gain. The 24-year-old should see the field more on Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers, but it's a bad matchup and Green Bay's impressive receiver depth is going to make it difficult for Watson to make a difference for fantasy managers. Reed, meanwhile, played just 26 of 56 snaps against Dallas and didn't catch any of his three targets. The 23-year-old rookie did have 10 total touchdowns in 2023, but he'll be a touchdown-dependent DFS play against San Fran.

Jan 16 7:50pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Christian Watson (hamstring) and Jayden Reed (chest) were both listed as limited on the team's estimated practice report on Tuesday. Watson made his return in Sunday's wild-card victory over the Dallas Cowboys after missing the final five games of the regular season. It was an unceremonious return, as he caught just one pass for nine yards. It was better than what Reed did, though, as the impressive rookie failed to catch a pass on three targets. Both wideouts will be looking to bounce back in the Divisional Round, but it won't be easy against a stout San Francisco 49ers defense and with quarterback Jordan Love spreading the ball around to receivers Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks and tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft as well. Watson is still getting his legs back under him and could be limited again, making him extremely risky in DFS.

Jan 14 8:30pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson caught his lone target for a nine-yard gain during the team's 48-32 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The second-year receiver had been out since Week 14 due to a hamstring injury that he suffered the week prior but made his return to action Sunday after being limited in practice all week. The Packers eased him back onto the field, and with only 21 passes thrown by Green Bay all game, there were few targets to be spread around the now-healthy receiving corps. Expect Watson to have his snap share increase next week when the Packers go on the road to take on the No. 1 seed San Francisco 49ers.

Jan 14 3:20pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) is officially active for Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. He had been listed as questionable after logging three consecutive limited practices. The promising young pass-catcher will return for his first game since early December. He had 28 catches for 422 yards and five touchdowns over the course of nine games during the regular season. Against Dallas, he should see significant volume alongside rookie breakout Jayden Reed.

Jan 14 9:10am ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys after logging three consecutive limited practices, will work out pregame to determine whether he can play, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Watson has been sidelined since early December, but "there is some optimism that he can go" this week, Rapoport notes. If active, Watson and Jayden Reed would operate as the Packers' top wide receivers. In such a scenario, expect Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton to also get involved.

Jan 12 3:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) is questionable to face the Dallas Cowboys on the road on Sunday in the wild-card playoff contest. It looked like Watson was close to playing in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears for the first time since straining his right hamstring in Week 13, but the Packers chose to play it safe and hold him out for a fifth straight game. The 24-year-old put in more limited practices this week and is trending toward a return, but it's hard to recommend him for DFS lineups as anything more than a boom/bust player because of his extended absence. Watson is an even more risky lineup option, considering the fact that rookies Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks and Romeo Doubs (chest) will all be active against Dallas.

From RotoBaller

Jan 11 7:40pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Romeo Doubs (chest) and Christian Watson (hamstring) were both listed as limited participants in practice for the second straight day on Thursday. After getting injured in the Week 18 win over the Chicago Bears and requiring a trip to the hospital, Doubs said he's "feeling normal" heading into Sunday's wild-card playoff contest against the Dallas Cowboys. Although Doubs and Watson could both end up playing this weekend, they are both very shaky fantasy options in DFS in a shy-away matchup against a strong Dallas secondary that plays much better at home. Watson missed his fifth game in a row in Week 18. He's trending toward a return, but choosing a player for DFS lineups that may be knocking off rust isn't exactly enticing.

From RotoBaller

Jan 10 6:50pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Romeo Doubs (chest) and Christian Watson (hamstring) were both limited in the team's first practice of the week on Wednesday. Doubs left Sunday's Week 18 win over the Chicago Bears with a chest injury and took a trip to the hospital. He was coughing up blood, but the Packers called him day-to-day on Monday, giving him a chance to play in Sunday's wild-card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. Watson has missed five straight games but is trending toward a return after being close to playing in the regular season finale. Having all of his receivers healthy for the start of the postseason would be great news for quarterback Jordan Love, but it's going to be hard for fantasy managers to rely on either Watson or Doubs if they play. Rookie Jayden Reed is the highest-priced Packers wideout on DraftKings at $5,700 for wild-card weekend.

Jan 7 3:20pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) is officially inactive for Week 18 against the Chicago Bears. He had been listed as questionable and there was some optimism that he would play despite missing Friday's practice. In the end, though, Green Bay will hold him out for one more week. This marks Watson's fifth consecutive absence and should lead to more opportunities for Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks. Of that group, Reed has the most fantasy appeal, ranking as a high-end WR3.

From RotoBaller

Jan 5 3:10pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) did not practice with the team on Friday and is questionable to play in a must-win Week 18 regular season finale against the visiting Chicago Bears on Sunday. Head coach Matt LaFleur said Watson was basically given the day off on Friday after two good practices on Wednesday and Thursday, so despite the DNP, the 24-year-old could be ready to return to the fold after missing the last four contests. Still, he could be a game-time decision for the later slate of games this Sunday, which makes him extremely risky for fantasy purposes in single-year leagues and in DFS. Rookie Jayden Reed (chest) is also questionable for the Packers, so their receiving corps is in flux heading into an important Week 18 contest. Quarterback Jordan Love could struggle against a potent Bears secondary if he's down a couple of his top wideouts.

Jan 4 3:30pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Christian Watson (hamstring) and Jayden Reed (chest) were both limited in practice on Thursday for the second straight day this week. Watson could be on track to end his four-game absence from a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 13, although a full practice on Friday would really boost his chances even further. Reed, meanwhile, injured his chest in Sunday night's win over the Minnesota Vikings after sitting out of Week 16. Quarterback Jordan Love could have his full complement of weapons at receiver if Watson, Reed and rookie Dontayvion Wicks (chest) are all able to play in a must-win game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Watson will be a pretty volatile boom/bust fantasy option if he plays this weekend. Reed, meanwhile will be the most expensive DFS wideout for the Packers after scoring seven times in his last seven games.

Jan 3 7:50pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Christian Watson (hamstring), Jayden Reed (chest) and Dontayvion Wicks (chest) were all listed as limited in the team's walkthrough practice estimation on Wednesday. It's the first time that Watson has been listed as limited in a practice since he injured his hamstring all the way back in Week 13. It doesn't necessarily mean the 24-year-old will return for a must-win Week 18 game against the Chicago Bears, but he's making good progress. Even if Watson does get the green light this Sunday, he'll be a volatile fantasy option in DFS lineups in a tough matchup, especially if both Reed and Wicks are also active. With Watson and Wicks out in last week's win over the Minnesota Vikings, Reed went off for six catches, 89 yards and two touchdowns. Reed has been a touchdown machine in the second half of his rookie campaign with seven total scores in his last seven games.

From RotoBaller

Dec 31 7:20pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) won't play on Sunday night versus the Vikings. The wideout was listed as doubtful after not practicing during the week, so he'll now miss his fourth consecutive contest. The Packers also won't have Dontayvion Wicks (chest), meaning Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed (toe) should be the primary receiving options for Jordan Love in the must-win matchup.

From RotoBaller

Dec 29 3:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) is doubtful to play on Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings to close out Week 17 action. Watson was trending this way after missing practice on Wednesday and Friday. It looks like the 24-year-old will miss his fourth straight game this weekend after injuring his hamstring at the end of the Week 13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Rookies Jayden Reed (toe) and Dontayvion Wicks (chest) are also in danger of sitting out against Minnesota, which would leave the Packers dangerously thin at wideout with Romeo Doubs in line to handle as many targets as he can. In the event that Watson, Reed and Wicks are all out, rookie Malik Heath and Samori Toure would round out three-receiver sets for Green Bay.

From RotoBaller

Dec 28 4:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Christian Watson (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle, chest) were both absent from practice on Thursday for the second straight day this week. Watson strained his right hamstring in Week 13 and hasn't practiced or played since, so fantasy managers should expect him to miss yet another contest in Week 17 on Sunday night against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings. The rookie Wicks had been seeing more involvement in the offense with Watson sidelined, but he suffered a chest injury in the Week 16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is now in jeopardy of missing this weekend's game. Jayden Reed (chest, toe) also missed last week's game, but he is back at practice this week and could return on Sunday evening. Reed has been a touchdown machine of late and would be an enticing option for fantasy lineups in Week 17 if he's active and both Watson and Wicks are out.

From RotoBaller

Dec 27 4:50pm ET

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) stretched with his helmet on but did not take part in individual drills during practice on Wednesday. It sounds like Watson is making some progress, but a DNP to start the week doesn't give fantasy managers a ton of hope that the 24-year-old will be able to play for the first time since straining his right hamstring late in the Week 13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Packers were also without rookie Jayden Reed (chest, toe) in the Week 16 win over the Carolina Panthers, which allowed for more targets for Romeo Doubs, rookie Dontayvion Wicks (chest) and rookie tight end Tucker Kraft. Watson will be an extremely volatile flex options for fantasy managers in Week 17 if he returns to practice later this week and plays on Sunday night versus the Minnesota Vikings.
