2024 RTSports Outlook

Thornton was hit or miss his rookie season, showing his potential, though. He had three touchdowns in 13 games and a game with 21.3 fantasy points. He had two games with 15-plus fantasy points. He should be in the starting rotation for the Patriots this year. Thornton is a top vertical threat because of his size and speed. Thornton separates in a hurry. He is very thin, though, so he can get pushed around in coverage. He also isn't a polished route runner just yet, which hurts his playing time a little.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Thornton might have a few big games but it might be hard to figure out when those will come. He is going to be erratic. He could get around 30 receptions for 500 yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) is starting the 2023 campaign on Injured Reserve. He will miss at least the first four games. He had a quiet rookie season after being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but sophomore receivers are often nice values in fantasy drafts, and he could see an expanded role in 2023. The speedy Baylor product caught just 22 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns (one rushing touchdown) last season, but he missed the first four weeks of the season with a collarbone injury, setting him up for a slow start. He posted two double-digit fantasy weeks in 12 games played and flashed his speed and big-play ability in spurts. DeVante Parker is a year older, JuJu Smith-Schuster replaced Jakobi Meyers, and Jonnu Smith is now in Atlanta, so there are plenty of targets up for grabs. Thornton could establish himself as the lead deep-ball receiver when he returns to action, which will at least set him up to be worth a late-round selection in best ball formats. After the injury news, he should likely be saved for the final round of drafts, though. If the Patriots' offense ascends under new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, Thornton could pay off in the end.

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (ankle) has officially been ruled out for the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the New York Jets, while receivers DeVante Parker (ribs) and Matthew Slater (hamstring) will play. All three receivers were listed as questionable coming into this one. Thornton finishes his second season in the NFL with just 13 receptions for 91 yards and no touchdowns on 23 targets over nine games played. The 23-year-old second-rounder has been a bust so far, but New England's poor quarterback situation hasn't helped his development. Parker and rookie Demario Douglas should be New England's top targets to close out the year, but the matchup against a strong Jets secondary isn't the greatest for fantasy managers in single-year leagues and DFS contests.

Jan 6 12:20am ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (ankle) popped up on the team's injury report after being limited in Friday's practice due to an ankle injury. The 23-year-old is one of 12 Patriots tagged as questionable for their Week 18 game against the New York Jets. Thornton caught three passes for a season-high 24 yards in the wake of DeVante Parker's (ribs) early exit from Week 17 due to injury. Parker himself was a limited participant in practice all week and is also questionable for Sunday's contest. If he is held out of the season finale, Thornton may see a slight increase in work but will still have little, if any, fantasy value.

Dec 17 12:10pm ET

New England Patriots wide receivers DeVante Parker (knee) and Tyquan Thornton (hamstring) are active for Week 15 versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Both players had been listed as questionable but were trending in the right direction ahead of kickoff. Rookie Demario Douglas will operate as Bailey Zappe's top target and is the only Patriots receiver worth starting in fantasy football this week. However, Parker and Thornton are also expected to see increased opportunities with JuJu Smith-Schuster (ankle) officially inactive.

Dec 15 5:00pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (hamstring) is officially questionable to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15. He practiced in a limited capacity on Friday. Even if the second-year wideout is able to suit up for this AFC battle, he remains off the fantasy radar given his current role in the offense, averaging just 1.3 catches and 8.5 receiving yards per game.

Dec 15 1:40am ET

New England Patriots wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster (ankle), DeVante Parker (knee), and Tyquan Thornton (hamstring) were all limited in Thursday's practice. Smith-Schuster is dealing with an ankle injury and Parker a knee issue, as both had their reps capped on Wednesday as well. Thornton is a new addition to the injury report, however, due to a hamstring problem and would appear to be in the most danger of the three of missing Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Thornton hasn't reached 20 yards in any of his six contests, though. Smith-Schuster put forth his best game as a Patriot with four catches on six targets for 90 yards against his former Pittsburgh Steelers team in last Thursday's night win but wouldn't rank as greater than a WR4/5 if active in Week 15 against a stout Chiefs defense. Parker would garner similar treatment while logging 2.4 catches for 29.3 yards per game over his nine outings this year.

Dec 7 11:30pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton turned five targets into three receptions for 17 yards during Thursday's upset victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The second-year pass-catcher saw an increased role with Rhamondre Stevenson (ankle), Demario Douglas (concussion), and DeVante Parker (knee) sidelined. He was the Patriots' No. 2 wide receiver behind JuJu Smith-Schuster, who finished with four catches and 90 yards. Thornton is a solid contributor on offense but should be left on fantasy waivers in all redraft leagues going forward.

Nov 26 5:10pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton caught two of five targets for 19 yards during Sunday's loss to the New York Giants. He also added a three-yard rush. The second-year receiver has appeared in four contests this year, but Sunday's game saw him set a season-high in targets, receptions, and yards. He could be in line for an even larger role next week versus the Chargers if rookie Demario Douglas (head) is forced to miss extended time.

Nov 5 11:40am ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (foot) is officially active for Week 9 versus the Washington Commanders. He had been listed as questionable. The second-year receiver could be in line for an expanded role after Mac Jones lost his top target, Kendrick Bourne (knee), to an ACL tear. Thornton isn't involved enough to justify rostering him in redraft leagues, but there's certainly a chance he could emerge as a key weapon for the Patriots this week.

Nov 3 5:00pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (foot) was added to the Week 9 injury report on Friday and is listed as questionable to face the Washington Commanders. Thornton was listed as limited at practice on Friday, but it's an ominous sign for his availability this weekend. It's more bad news for the Pats' receiving corps with Kendrick Bourne (knee) out for the season and DeVante Parker (concussion) already ruled out for Sunday. Even if the 23-year-old Thornton is available against Washington, he'll likely play a smaller role behind JuJu Smith-Schuster, rookie Demario Douglas and Jalen Reagor in what has been one of the worst offenses in football this year. Rookie Kayshon Boutte should be active for the first time since Week 1.

Dynasty | Tyquan Thornton was a healthy scratch for the Patriots in week eight Dynasty Analysis: Thornton started the season on IR, returned in week six and was scratched in week eight. Following his surprise selection by the Patriots in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the second-year receiver has struggled with injury and consistency and appears to be on the fast-track to anonymity, a similar plight to many receivers in New England in recent years. The Patriots undoubtedly are searching for an alpha presence at the position but unless something drastic changes in Thornton's game, he'll continue to watch from the sidelines. Listed as DLF's WR93, he'll fall from the dynasty radar shortly without production in the second-half of 2023.

Oct 29 12:30pm ET

New England Patriots wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) cleared protocol earlier this week and is officially active for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. His return has prompted the team to make fellow wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (coach's decision) inactive. While neither player is on the redraft radar, it's still news worth mentioning given the fact that New England signed Smith-Schuster to a significant deal during free agency and Thornton is a former second-round pick.
