It's a hit to New England's backfield the rest of the way. The 27-year-old will finish the 2025 campaign with 25 rushing attempts for 106 yards and one touchdown. He added two catches for six yards on three targets through the air. Gibson wasn't really a roster candidate in 12-team fantasy leagues, but he can now safely be dropped in deeper single-year formats. Terrell Jennings will likely be elevated from the practice squad to serve as the RB3 behind Rhamondre Stevenson and rookie TreVeyon Henderson. Gibson's injury gives Henderson a clearer path to an elevated backfield workload.

Rookie backfield mate TreVeyon Henderson picked up marginally more work in his stead, and figures to split fairly evenly with Rhamondre Stevenson while Gibson is shelved with his injury. The 27-year-old was the team's third option out of the backfield, but with Henderson's inexperience and Stevenson's fumbling issues, he was getting a decent carry share. If Gibson is forced to miss extended time, Henderson would become an increasingly intriguing play.

New England Patriots running back Antonio Gibson (undisclosed) returned to practice on Wednesday, according to Brian Hines of SBNation. Gibson was dealing with an undisclosed issue, but everything appears to be all good with him health-wise. The 2020 third-round pick had a solid first season in New England in 2024, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and nine yards per reception. With the addition of 2025 second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson, along with the presence of Rhamondre Stevenson, Gibson will likely be reduced to a backup role behind them.

Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports that New England Patriots running back Antonio Gibson (undisclosed) will sit out of Friday's scrimmage due to an undisclosed injury. Gibson also did not take part in the team's walk-through practice at training camp on Thursday. It's unclear what is ailing the 27-year-old, but it's likely that the Patriots are just being cautious. As things currently stand, Gibson is going to go undrafted in most fantasy leagues after the Patriots took RB TreVeyon Henderson in the second round back in April. Although Rhamondre Stevenson has his issues with ball security, he will remain ahead of Gibson on the depth chart in 2025 as long as he stays healthy. In his first year in New England in 2024, Gibson had 120 carries for 538 yards and one touchdown, adding a career-low 23 receptions for 206 yards through the air in 17 games (three starts).
