2024 RTSports Outlook

Brown wasn't much of a factor most of his rookie season but emerged late in the season and played well in an expanded role. He had double-digit touches three of his last five games. Brown had 335 total yards on the season. Brown could play a much bigger role from day one this season. Zack Moss is likely to start with Brown serving as the top pass-catching back for the team. Brown does his best work between the tackles as a runner. Brown also catches the ball very well and can be an asset out of the backfield. He lacks a little top speed, though, and doesn't make a lot of plays on the outside.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Brown is worth a late-round look as a reserve back. He can produce some decent numbers in year two. He could get around 700 total yards, 30 receptions and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown had a relatively quiet rookie season in 2023. He missed time with a hamstring injury and only received five touches during the team's first 11 games. Starting Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Brown began to gain some steam. The Bengals coaching staff must have seen something they liked as Brown averaged nearly nine touches and 53 scrimmage yards per game from Weeks 13-18. That would equate to roughly 150 touches and 900 scrimmage yards over a 17-game season. That would be enough to warrant flex consideration in fantasy leagues. His final stats underwhelmed, but Brown displayed big-play ability during the year. Head Coach Zac Taylor has hinted at Brown receiving a larger role this season. While Zack Moss was brought in as the lead back, he has never handled more than 210 touches in a season nor has he ever been a significant pass-catching threat. There is room for Brown to carve out a role in this offense. He has stand-alone value as a flex option in PPR leagues with upside for more. Ranked as RotoBaller's RB33, Brown is a great target later in drafts and is a worthwhile investment in all leagues.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown remains the No. 2 option out of the backfield after the team opted not to select any competition in the NFL Draft. Cincinnati replaced Joe Mixon with Zack Moss last March, and while it seemed like they could upgrade their backfield in the draft, that wasn't the case. Instead, it appears Moss will be Cincinnati's primary running back, barring a surprise signing or trade. Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic indicates that Moss has a leg up over Brown heading into the summer, including on third downs. This isn't necessarily a surprise given that Moss looked great in Indianapolis last year, but Brown also flashed promise as a rookie, totaling 335 yards and a touchdown. He enters the summer as Moss' backup but could push for more snaps with a strong camp.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown had 43 yards off 11 carries in Sunday's win over the Browns. He added one catch for 10 yards. The Bengals were eliminated from playoff contention after the Week 17 loss to the Chiefs. However, Cincinnati wanted to end the year with a winning record. Brown's 11 attempts were the most of his career. Although he couldn't find the end zone for the second time this season, he still had a decent year as Joe Mixon's backup. At any rate, the 23-year-old should at least remain the No. 2 running back on the depth chart, so he'll draw interest from fantasy managers during drafts ahead of Week 1 for insurance purposes. Of course, the Bengals should strongly consider keeping Joe Mixon on the roster, even more so since he had 12 touchdowns this season. Yet, Brown's outlook could improve even more if he finds himself atop the depth chart heading into the 2024-25 campaign.

Dynasty | Bengals OC Brian Callahan recently talked positively about Chase Brown's role in the offense and indicated he'll be a "big contributor" next year. Dynasty Analysis: Chase Brown is currently DLF's RB50 (161 overall) in the 1QB dynasty rankings. He ended the back half of his rookie season strong, with much of his production coming in the passing game. With Joe Mixon (RB23) potentially being a cap casualty in 2024, Brown could step into a much larger role as Callahan indicated. He's certainly someone for dynasty managers to keep an eye, especially if the Bengals don't use a higher round draft pick on a RB.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown didn't do a whole lot in the team's Week 17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. Brown remained the clear backup to Joe Mixon once again and was even out-carried by quarterback Jake Browning seven to three. On his three rushing attempts, Brown had only five yards and caught both of his targets for an additional 23 yards. The 23-year-old only played only one more snap than Trayveon Williams and just 15% of the snaps. The Bengals have gotten Brown more involved in their offense in recent weeks and he's capitalized on a few big plays, mainly on screens. However, Brown has yet to carve out a big enough role behind Mixon to warrant weekly starting consideration in fantasy lineups.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown had 16 yards off four carries during Saturday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He added two catches for eight yards. The rookie has been more involved on the offensive end in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, Brown couldn't get anything going, although he wasn't alone, considering the Steelers defense had one of its best performances of the 2023-24 campaign. That said, Brown can't be trusted in any fantasy format in Week 17 versus the Kansas City Chiefs. While he is a threat to at least find the end zone from week to week, fantasy managers should keep him out of the starting lineup.

Dec 22 10:30pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown (chest) appeared on the injury report during the week. He practiced in a limited capacity on Tuesday. However, he logged full sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, so he's good to go for the Week 16 AFC North matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The rookie started to get attention from fantasy managers after he scored a touchdown in Week 14 versus the Colts. He's also logged at least seven carries in the last three games while catching three passes in his previous two appearances. Unfortunately, Brown has played in only 42 of the team's offensive snaps combined since Week 13. As a result, it will be tough for him to do anything meaningful for fantasy managers, even with Ja'Marr Chase (shoulder) out of the lineup. On the other hand, desperate fantasy managers shouldn't rule out another trip to the end zone, giving him a small upside in the deepest fantasy setups.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown (chest) was able to upgrade to a full practice session on Wednesday after he was listed as limited in practice on Tuesday. The 23-year-old came out of Saturday's overtime victory over the Minnesota Vikings with a sternum injury, but it shouldn't keep him from being available in this Saturday's divisional clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brown has been involved more in the last three weeks and has at least nine touches in each game. It's led to 24 carries for 109 yards (4.54 yards per tote) and six receptions for an additional 108 yards and one touchdown in the last three contests. Joe Mixon is still dominating the backfield snaps and touches, though, leaving Brown as a touchdown-dependent RB4/flex in very deep PPR leagues in Week 16.

Dec 19 7:20pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown (sternum) is on the Week 16 injury report after being listed as limited in the team's first practice of the week on Tuesday. It's an injury that shouldn't keep Brown from playing in Week 16 against the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's something worth watching. The 23-year-old fifth-round pick has been much more involved in Cincy's backfield the last three games after seeing virtually zero involvement in his first six games. Brown has 24 rushing attempts for 109 yards (4.54 yards per carry) and has caught all six of his targets for 108 yards and a touchdown in the passing game in the last three weeks. If he's active on Saturday, he could see an elevated role in the passing game if lead receiver Ja'Marr Chase (shoulder) is out. Brown wasn't used at all on offense in the team's first meeting against the Steelers in Week 11.

Dec 15 9:00pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown is coming off the best performance of his young career. The rookie had eight carries for 25 yards in the Week 14 win over the Colts. More importantly, he caught all three of his targets, one of which resulted in his first career touchdown. Brown has 17 carries in the last two games. However, Joe Mixon is still the top option out of the backfield, meaning Brown's ceiling is capped. As a result, it may be safe for fantasy managers to keep the 23-year-old out of the starting lineup for Week 15 against the Vikings. But he still has some value for those with nowhere else to turn. If anything, Brown can be stashed in case Mixon goes down with an injury during the final stretch of the 2023-24 campaign.

Dec 13 12:40pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals rookie fifth-round running back Chase Brown wasn't known as a speed guy coming out of college, but he has provided the Bengals offense with a spark the last two weeks and was clocked at 22.05 mph on a screen pass he turned into a 54-yard touchdown in the Week 14 win over the Indianapolis Colts. It was the second-fastest speed reached by a ball-carrier in the NFL in 2023. Brown's opportunities were limited in the first three months, having played eight offensive snaps in the first six games before going on Injured Reserve with a pulled hamstring. In the last two games, he has 166 scrimmage yards and one touchdown. Joe Mixon remains Cincy's lead back, but Brown is worth a waiver-wire pickup for those fantasy managers still playing for something down the stretch, at least as RB depth .

Dynasty | Chase Brown scored his first career touchdown in the Bengals 34-14 victory over the Colts in week 14. Dynasty Analysis: His 54-yard score came as a receiver and he produced 80 yards on 3-of-3 receiving. As a rusher, he produced a pedestrian 25 yards on eight carries. Brown has seen 20 touches over his past two games as he gets work behind veteran Joe Mixon. Mixon's status with the team was very much during the preseason and likely will be so again in 2024. Brown's production could put him in-line for a starting role if the dominoes fall in his favor but 2024 will also see a tsunami of free agent talent at the position. Found as DLF's RB62, the rookie remains a dynasty stash on the potential for a greater role next season.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown (hamstring) didn't have any limitations in practice on Thursday following a limited designation in practice a day earlier. The 23-year-old third-rounder should be able to play on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts unless he suffers a setback on Friday. Brown looked fresh and was given a season-high nine carries for 61 yards (6.78 yards per carry) in Monday night's overtime win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. In standard-sized leagues, this is just something worth keeping an eye on over the next couple of weeks. Joe Mixon isn't going anywhere as Cincy's lead back, but Brown could see his role grow as a complementary ground option down the stretch if he continues to look like he did in Week 13.

From RotoBaller

Dec 6 9:30pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown (hamstring) was limited in practice on Wednesday as the team began preparing to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14. Brown surprisingly got nine touches in a Week 13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, overtaking Trayveon Williams for the backup role in Cincy behind Joe Mixon. The rookie's participation in practice throughout the remainder of the week will be worth monitoring. If Brown ultimately ends up missing Week 14, look for Williams to move back into the No. 2 RB role.

Nov 26 11:50am ET

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown (hamstring) is officially active for the Week 12 contest versus the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday after he was activated from Injured Reserve on Saturday. With Brown returning to the Bengals' backfield as depth, Chris Evans is a healthy scratch for this one. The 23-year-old rookie will be third on the RB depth chart against Pittsburgh behind starter Joe Mixon and backup Trayveon Williams, so he doesn't have any standalone fantasy value. The fifth-rounder has carried the ball just two times for six yards and has caught all three of his targets for seven yards in his first five NFL games before he landed on Injured Reserve.

From RotoBaller

Nov 24 4:10pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown (hamstring) practiced in a full capacity this week. He is listed as questionable and remains on injured reserve. Presumably, the Bengals are waiting until Saturday afternoon to activate Brown, at which point it would become clear that he's playing in Week 12 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even if the rookie operates as Joe Mixon's backup, he's not on the redraft radar in fantasy football.

From RotoBaller

Nov 20 12:20pm ET

The Cincinnati Bengals have cleared rookie running back Chase Brown (hamstring) to practice by designating him for return from Injured Reserve. The team also signed quarterback Drew Plitt to their practice squad and placed offensive lineman Jaxson Kirkland on the practice-squad injured list. The Bengals now have 21 days to officially activate Brown from Injured Reserve. The 23-year-old fifth-round draft pick landed on IR on Oct. 28. In the five games he played before his hamstring injury, he had just two rushing attempts for six yards while catching three passes for seven yards. When healthy, he will once again serve as RB depth for Cincinnati behind Joe Mixon, Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans. Brown can be ignored in all redraft fantasy leagues.
