No Playoff Match Up |
Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook won't be elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cook has been on the active roster for each of the last two games, but hasn't done much damage on the field. He has rushed eight times for 20 yards over his past two appearances. The Cowboys have decided to go a different route this weekend. Instead, Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott, and Deuce Vaughn will split up the carries in the backfield. Out of the trio, Dowdle is the most reliable option with a 75-yard performance during last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Fantasy managers still holding onto Cook are probably safe to look elsewhere for help.

Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook reverted back to the practice squad Monday, Nov. 4, after being on the active roster for the Week 9 game.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook rushed twice for only eight yards in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, and he was not targeted in the pass game.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook was elevated off the practice squad to play in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. Cook made his Cowboy debut last weekend and tallied just 12 rushing yards off six attempts. He caught his lone target for ten yards. With Rico Dowdle (illness) sitting out, Cook was deployed as the No. 2 option in the backfield behind Ezekiel Elliott. However, with Dowdle expected to return to action, Cook will likely be in a depth role this weekend and not have an integral part in the offensive attack. Fantasy managers should view the 29-year-old as a handcuff option in deeper formats that has little to no standalone value.

Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook and CB Josh Butler were elevated from the practice squad for Week 9 on Saturday, Nov. 2.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook reverted back to the practice squad Monday, Oct. 28, after being on the active roster for the Week 8 game.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook was elevated from the practice squad on Sunday night with Rico Dowdle (illness) missing the game as a late scratch. The veteran rushed six times for 12 yards and added a ten-yard reception, totaling 22 yards in his Dallas debut. He is not currently in the fantasy picture, especially with Dowdle expected back next week, but his usage going forward could further muddy the backfield should he be elevated again.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook rushed for 12 yards on six carries and caught his only target for 10 yards in Week 8 versus the San Francisco 49ers.
Fantasy Spin: Head coach Mike McCarthy teased the likelihood of Cook getting some playing time earlier in the week, and it became a necessity once Rico Dowdle (illness) was ruled out early on Sunday. Cook's presence did not spark was has largely been a dormant running game all season, but it is fair to wonder if Cook showed enough to get the nod over Ezekiel Elliott has Dowdle's primary backup. Regardless of how it shakes out, Cook should remain on fantasy benches in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook was elevated from the practice squad for Week 8 on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Fantasy Spin: Cook has been patiently waiting for his chance to play on the practice squad, and with the Cowboys not happy with their current options at running back, he's finally getting his shot. Cook is not a starting option in Week 8, but he is someone to keep an eye on in the event he finds the fountain of youth and takes over the starting job in Dallas.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad on Saturday and is expected to make his Dallas debut on Sunday evening in San Francisco according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The veteran running back joined the Cowboys during the last week of August but has yet to see any regular season action. Fantasy managers should monitor his usage on Sunday evening as he could eventually work out a role going forward. Top option Rico Dowdle should be expected to continue to operate as the lead back as he has averaged 62.8 total yards per game with 11.0 PPR points per game while Ezekiel Elliott and Deuce Vaughn have been very unproductive serving as change-of-pace options. Cook is worth taking a flier on in deeper 14+ team formats for the time being.

Dynasty | The Dallas Cowboys are considering elevating Dalvin Cook from the practice squad this week. Dynasty Analysis: Cook was signed to the practice squad at the beginning of the season and poised to be a part of the offense early, but that never materialized. With Dallas struggling in the run game thus far, they may have nothing to lose by seeing what Cook may have left in the tank. The former All-Pro is again roster worthy in dynasty leagues, but expectations should be tempered.
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to elevate RB Dalvin Cook from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Oct. 26, and he will make his season debut in Week 8's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to his agency LAA.
Fantasy Spin: Cook has reportedly looked good in practice but it remains to be seen how big of a role he will have in the Dallas offense or how it will affect the workloads of RBs Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott. Owners should avoid using him in fantasy lineups for now but he can be stashed on the bench in deeper leagues.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook is "ready" and "in position" to play, head coach Mike McCarthy told the media. Executive vice president Stephen Jones also noted that coaches "have been talking to us about how it's about time for him to get his opportunity" as Cook continues to impress in his role on the practice squad. The 29-year-old would offer valuable competition to a backfield struggling to get its legs in the first half of the season. While Cook might never supplant Rico Dowdle as Dallas' No. 1 running back, he could certainly earn meaningful touches starting this week against the San Francisco 49ers.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook has 'clearly crossed over the threshold of the communication and the understanding (of the offense),' according to head coach Mike McCarthy, and will likely be elevated from the practice squad ahead of the team's Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Fantasy Spin: While the Cowboys could dress four running backs (including fullback Hunter Luepke), this report makes it likely that Ezekiel Elliott will be inactive and Cook will serve as the direct backup to Rico Dowdle. While Dowdle has done well this season given the circumstances, it likely would not take much for Cook to force a backfield split if he has more left in the tank than he showed last season. Cook is worth adding in 14-team leagues and is worth adding as a stash in deeper 12-team leagues as well just in case he pops or Dowdle gets hurt.
From TheHuddle
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy hinted on 105.3 The Fan that running back Dalvin Cook could be getting closer to being promoted from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster. "He took some reps yesterday in the team periods, so we're definitely moving him forward. But the other part of it, too, is I think Rico Dowdle and (Ezekiel Elliott) they haven't been given a lot of opportunities too, so it isn't like they haven't done anything to warrant their opportunities decreasing right now. It's a great place to be. It gives us excellent depth. That's a hell of a situation to be in," McCarthy said. Neither Dowdle or Elliott have done much of anything to impress through the season's first four weeks, but based on how Cook looked last year with the Jets, the 29-year-old is no lock to be an improvement over what Dallas has right now. Cook signed with Dallas before the season opener and remains on the practice squad.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday that he doesn't expect veteran running back Dalvin Cook to play in Week 4 on Thursday Night Football against the division-rival New York Giants. Cook will have to wait another week to make his Cowboys debut in 2024. The team will continue to roll with Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott and Deuce Vaughn in their backfield on a short week. Dowdle, Zeke and Vaughn have combined to average a weak 3.5 yards on 49 rushing attempts through the first three games in 2024. If that continues, the 29-year-old Cook will surely get his opportunity, but there's no guarantee he'll be much better after averaging 3.2 yards per carry on 67 rushing attempts last year with the Jets. For now, Cook will bide his time on the practice squad and can be left to the waiver wire in most fantasy formats.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook has impressed the coaching staff since joing the practice squad, and Dan Graziano of ESPN.com believes Cook 'ends up getting a look' if the Cowboys struggle to run the ball against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.
Fantasy Spin: There is no guarantee that Cook will be given an opportunity, but the Cowboys have nothing to lose if Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle continue to struggle. Cook could be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.
From TheHuddle
When asked if Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook will be called upon to boost the running game in Week 3 versus the Baltimore Ravens, owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, "I don't necessarily see a change that would involve Cook this week." Cook was signed late in training camp to give the Cowboys more running back depth behind Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn. The 29-year-old is currently on the practice squad and will likely have to wait at least another week before Dallas considers adding him to the 53-man active roster. Cook says he's much healthier than he was last year, when he averaged a career-worst 3.2 yards per carry on 67 rushing attempts for the New York Jets in 15 games, but as of right now, he doesn't offer much of an upgrade to what the Cowboys already have in their backfield.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys running back Dalvin Cook was not elevated from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game versus the Cleveland Browns. As a result, he won't play in Week 1. This backfield belongs to some combination of Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle, and with Cook off the roster, Deuce Vaughn will operate as the No. 3 running back. Elliott and Dowdle are the only Cowboys backs on the fantasy roster; they are both RB3/FLEX options.
From RotoBaller
Veteran running back Dalvin Cook signed with the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on Wednesday and is eager to contribute in any way he can to the team's offense in 2024. "Obviously I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to come in and help a great organization to win football games," Cook said. "And as I look around and I look at the running back room, it's a bunch of guys that I can go in there and run the football with. Although he has plenty of experience as a bell-cow RB in the NFL -- he averaged 18.5 carries per game in his last four seasons with the Vikings from 2019-22 -- but he started just one game with the New York Jets in 2023 and had 67 carries for 214 yards rushing. Cook's first goal is to work his way up to the active roster from the practice squad to eventually add depth alongside Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle. Dallas also has second-year back Deuce Vaughn, so Cook will be part of a committee if/when he joins the active roster.
