Free agent wide receiver John Ross worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday. Ross failed to make the Philadelphia Eagles' final roster earlier in the preseason. He was once drafted as the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Ross also owned the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine until 2024. However, he has never lived up to his pedigree and has recently bounced around the league. Ross would give the Saints a vertical threat and extra depth behind Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and A.T. Perry. Given that he has not played in a regular season game since 2021, Ross does not project to have much fantasy appeal if he were to be signed.

Dynasty | The Eagles have released wide receiver John Ross. Dynasty Analysis: The former Cincinnati first round pick was attempting a comeback with the Eagles but didn't quite do enough to stick. Once the NFL's fastest man, Ross has simply been a bust during his time in the NFL. He may get a chance on a practice squad or get a call up as an injury replacement but he doesn't belong on a dynasty roster.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver John Ross caught three of five targets for a team-leading 28 yards receiving in the preseason opener against Baltimore Friday night. The 28-year-old was a part of the starting group, which was the second-string, to open the game and played into the second half with backup quarterback Kenny Pickett. Ross led the starting offense in the receiving game and saw five targets alongside Britain Covey. The former first-rounder has been receiving praise throughout the offseason and seems to have an inside track on the No. 3 job in the Eagles receiving room. The speedster will look to have a late-career rebirth after being one of the more glaring first-round busts of the past decade.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver John Ross was getting first team reps on Wednesday in OTAs, according to Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks. The 28-year-old agreed to a one-year contract with the Eagles on May 23 and has already begun to have opportunities with the first team. The former Washington product was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals but has unfortunately been unable to perform in the NFL. He had a season-high of only 506 yards in 2019 and has yet to come close to that total over the past four seasons. He announced his retirement last summer but appears to be eyeing an NFL comeback. Currently, the Eagles wide receiver room is highlighted by A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith but is lacking a consistent number three option. Ross could become a name to mention throughout training camp in July if he continues to earn opportunities with the starting staff.

Former first-round wide receiver John Ross recently signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as he looks to revive his NFL career. Ross spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs last July before retiring. Before that, he set a then-NFL record with a 4.22-second 40-yard dash at the combine and was taken ninth overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. He started just one game for Cincy in his rookie season and just 20 total, recording 51 catches for 733 yards and 10 touchdowns in four years. Ross last played in the NFL in 2021 with the Giants, catching 11 passes for 224 yards and one TD. "I haven't lost a step," Ross said. "I'm still the same guy. I feel like I'm better than what I was." The 28-year-old burner is intriguing in Philly's offense, but he'll most likely see most of his playing time on special teams as a kick returner.

Dynasty | The Eagles have signed free agent wide receiver John Ross. Dynasty Analysis: Ross was last seen with the Chiefs prior to deciding to retire around a year ago. Instead, the former fastest man in the league has decided to give it one more go and takes the place of the newly retired DeVante Parker on the roster, at least for now. Ross will not be guaranteed a roster spot and while this is a fun story to follow, it's doubtful we see any kind of fantasy value emerging from Ross, a former first round pick who busted in Cincinnati.

May 23 4:20pm ET

Veteran free-agent wide receiver John Ross signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Ross announced his retirement from football last July, but he is attempting a return to action for the 2024 season. The former No. 9 overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals out of Washington famously broke Chris Johnson's 40-yard dash time at the 2017 NFL Combine with a 4.22 official run. That stood until the 2024 NFL Combine which saw Xavier Worthy post a 4.21 40-time. Despite his speed, Ross failed to make a significant impact in four years with the Bengals and one season with the New York Giants. Overall, he hauled in 62 passes for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns in 37 career games. Ross is likely a longshot to make the Eagles' 53-man roster, but he'll compete with veteran Parris Campbell and rookies Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith to work behind star wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Former Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants wide receiver John Ross, whose 4.22-second 40-yard dash was the NFL scouting combine record until Xavier Worthy broke it earlier this year, will take part in the Philadelphia Eagles' rookie camp this week on a tryout basis, according to sources. Ross had retired last year but is now attempting to make a comeback. The 28-year-old speedster ended up being a bust after the Bengals took him with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft out of Washington. Ross last played for the G-Men in 2021 and had 11 catches for 224 yards and one touchdown in 10 games (one start). In his five years in the NFL, he caught 62 of 143 targets for 957 yards and 11 scores in 37 games (21 starts). Ross will be a long shot to make the Eagles' active roster in 2024, let alone be fantasy relevant.
