2024 RTSports Outlook

Mooney had a disappointing season in what was expected to be a breakout performance. He missed the last five games with an ankle injury, but had fewer than 500 yards for the season before getting hurt. He had just five games with double-digit fantasy points before the injury. He did not have a single 100-yard game before the injury. Mooney had a 1,000-yard season before last year's disappointing performance. He remains a big part of his passing attack, but now has D.J. Moore to compete with for targets. Mooney might lose out on some work with Moore around. Plus, the Bears are more of a run-heavy offense with Justin Fields leading the way. Mooney is small receiver but has great moves in space and top speed. He will make the tough catch in traffic and plenty of plays after the catch. He will drop some passes, though, and last season's down year is a concern.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mooney can rebound some this year but don't expect a huge season. He should be considered a No. 3 or 4 fantasy receiver. He will have a few big games along the way. Mooney could get around 60 receptions for 750 yards and five touchdowns.

Dynasty | Darnell Mooney signs a 3 year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Dynasty Analysis: Mooney is an immediate upgrade for the Falcons at their WR2 position, one day after signing Kirk Cousins on a long term deal. The Falcons already have a few mouths to feed in the passing game, with Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson each commanding a significant role. This should increase Mooney's dynasty value, currently at WR74 in our superflex dynasty rankings, but managers should be cautious on their expectations in 2024. He likely slots in as a WR4/Flex in fantasy due to limited opportunity.

Mar 12 12:00pm ET

Free-agent wide receiver Darnell Mooney is joining the Atlanta Falcons on a three-year, $39 million deal, reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The 2020 fifth-round pick out of Tulane posted 81 receptions for 1,055 yards and four touchdowns with Andy Dalton and a rookie Justin Fields as his primary quarterbacks in 2021, but he has not matched the production since. In 2022 and 2023 combined, he totaled 71 receptions for 907 yards and three touchdowns. However, he's now set to play with the best quarterback of his career, as Atlanta secured Kirk Cousins on a four-year deal on Monday. Mooney figures to be behind Drake London and Kyle Pitts in the target pecking order, but Cousins has supported up to three, and sometimes four, fantasy-relevant pass-catchers in a single season. Mooney is now on the fantasy radar as a sleeper and could hold flex value in 2024.

The Kansas City Chiefs, among other teams, remain interested in free-agent wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who had a 1,000-yard season under Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy from their days with the Chicago Bears. Mooney put up a career-high 1,055 yards and four touchdowns on 81 receptions in 2021 with Nagy as the head coach, but he's played in just 27 games in two years since then, combining for 907 yards and three touchdowns. In 15 games last year, Mooney was pretty much invisible, catching 31 passes for 414 yards and a TD, so his fantasy stock is basically on life support, and his 1,000-yard season is looking like an outlier. However, a move to the Super Bowl-champion Chiefs would make Mooney somewhat interesting as a late-round flier in deep leagues. However, outside of Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice, Patrick Mahomes spread the ball around in last year's offense.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (concussion) missed practice all week and has been ruled out for the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Mooney will close out a disappointing campaign by missing the final two games of the year. The 26-year-old was in the shadow of top wideout DJ Moore all season, and it didn't help that quarterback Justin Fields missed valuable time due to injury midway through the year. Mooney finishes his fourth NFL season with career-lows in catches (31), receiving yards (414) and touchdowns (one) in 15 games played. Moore should be Fields' top target yet again as the Bears look to spoil Green Bay's bid for a postseason appearance, while rookie Tyler Scott, Equanimeous St. Brown and others should be more involved as well.

Jan 4 4:00pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (concussion) missed a second straight day of practice on Thursday as he remains in the league's concussion protocols. Mooney suffered his concussion in the Week 16 win over the Arizona Cardinals and didn't play in last week's win over the Atlanta Falcons. With the Bears season already over, it's likely that Mooney will be held out of the Week 18 regular season finale at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers. The 26-year-old hasn't scored a touchdown since the season opener and has had another disappointing year, catching only 50.8 percent of his 61 targets (31 catches) for 414 yards and the lone score in 15 games. If Mooney isn't on the field this weekend, it will mean more playing time for rookie Tyler Scott, Equanimeous St. Brown and Velus Jones Jr.

From RotoBaller

Jan 3 12:30pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (concussion) is still in the league's concussion protocol and will not practice on Wednesday. Mooney did not play in the Week 17 win over the Atlanta Falcons and is trending in the wrong direction to suit up this Sunday at Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers in the Week 18 regular season finale. The Bears are already eliminated from the playoffs, so they certainly won't rush Mooney back onto the field this weekend. If the 26-year-old doesn't play against Green Bay, he'll end his frustrating fourth year in the NFL with 31 catches on 61 targets for 414 yards and no touchdowns in 15 games played. If Mooney ends up missing a second straight game, rookie Tyler Scott will once again have a bigger role behind DJ Moore. Equanimeous St. Brown, Velus Jones Jr. and Trent Taylor would also be more involved.

Dec 29 6:50pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (concussion) has been ruled out ahead of the Week 17 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. This was expected after Mooney continued to sit out of practice due to concussion symptoms. The absence of Mooney won't have a big impact on this offense. He hasn't caught more than two passes in a single game since Week 9. The expectation is that D.J. Moore and rookie Tyler Scott will see more action with Mooney unable to play.

Dec 28 9:30pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (concussion) didn't suit up during Thursday's practice session. Mooney remains in the league's concussion protocol and as a result has missed the last two practice sessions. Mooney has been much of a factor on offense lately again. He hasn't caught more than two passes in a single game since Week 9. There's a good chance that he sits out the Week 17 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. His absence should open up additional playing time for Tyler Scott.

Dec 27 12:20pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (concussion) self-reported concussion-like symptoms when he came to the team's facilities on Monday and is in the league's concussion protocol, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. Mooney is most likely going to miss practice time this week, and if he's unable to get on the field at all or clear the protocol, he'll have to sit out the Week 17 contest versus the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Chicago's receiving corps is pretty banged up with tight end Cole Kmet (knee) also getting hurt in the Week 16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. If Mooney cannot play this weekend, Trent Taylor would have a bigger role out of the slot.

Dec 25 11:30am ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney continues to face struggles in 2023, catching just two of four targets for a mere five yards in the team's 27-16 win over the Cardinals in Week 16. This performance marks his lowest yardage output of the season, excluding three games where he was held without a catch, and it's the eighth time he has accumulated five or fewer PPR points. Despite the Bears taking an early lead and emphasizing the run, injuries to DJ Moore and Cole Kmet opened up potential targets in the passing game, but Mooney couldn't capitalize. Looking ahead to Week 17 against the Falcons, who allow the fourth-fewest points per game to wide receivers, Mooney remains a questionable option on a run-heavy team. However, if Moore and Kmet miss time, Mooney may be in line for more targets.

Dec 22 1:50pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney had an opportunity to achieve the unthinkable in Week 15 by catching a last-second Hail Mary against the Browns, but he couldn't secure the catch despite the ball falling into his hands. The 26-year-old caught just two of eight targets for 14 yards and was held to under five PPR points for the seventh time this year. It's been a challenging season for Mooney, who hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 1, despite typically playing 85-90% of the snaps. The Bears have maintained a run-first approach throughout the year, with DJ Moore and Cole Kmet commanding the majority of the receiving volume. In Week 16, facing the Cardinals who allow the 13th-most points per game to receivers this season, it might be better to explore other options unless Mooney finds a more consistent role.

From RotoBaller

Dec 21 3:40pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (illness) was under the weather and didn't practice with the team on Wednesday but he was clearly feeling better on Thursday and was listed as a full participant. Mooney shouldn't have any issues getting ready to play this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, and he could be in for some extra targets if tight end Cole Kmet (quadriceps), who was added to the injury report on Thursday, is limited or out in Week 16. Still, the 26-year-old Mooney has been in the shadow of top wideout DJ Moore all year in 2023 and has a disappointing 29 receptions for 409 yards and only one touchdown in 14 games. Mooney's season was summed up during last week's nearly successful Hail Mary attempt with time expiring in the fourth quarter when the ball went in and out of his hands in the end zone.

Dec 20 2:40pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (illness) is not practicing on Wednesday due to an illness. The 26-year-old has not missed a game this season, but a few players have been inactive this year due to illnesses. His practice status should be monitored later in the week. That said, Mooney has only hauled in 29 passes for 409 yards and one touchdown this season, as DJ Moore has become the clear No. 1 receiver for Justin Fields. If Mooney can't play in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals, Tyler Scott would likely see more targets, but he wouldn't have much fantasy appeal. Moore remains a must-start in all matchups.

Dec 17 11:40pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney saw a surge in opportunities in Week 15, tying a team lead with eight targets, a season-high for him. Despite the increased looks, Mooney only managed to catch two of them for a mere 14 yards in the team's 20-17 loss to the Browns. The 26-year-old had a crucial moment in the game's closing minutes, attempting to secure a Hail Mary pass from Justin Fields in the endzone, but the attempt resulted in an interception, sealing the Bears' fate. Since his strong Week 1 performance, Mooney has scored double-digit PPR points just once, with four of the last five games seeing him fall below five points. Playing a supporting role to DJ Moore and Cole Kmet in the passing game, Mooney has faced challenges in a run-heavy Bears team. In Week 16, facing the Cardinals, who allow the 13th-most points per game to receivers this season, Mooney aims to finish the last three games on a positive note after a challenging campaign.

From RotoBaller

Dec 15 1:50pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney saw a season-high seven targets in Week 14, matching his Week 1 performance. However, the 26-year-old only managed to convert two of those targets into 44 yards. Despite consistently holding a snap share between 70-90%, Mooney hasn't found the end zone since Week 1 and has surpassed 55 yards in a game only once this season. With DJ Moore and Cole Kmet emerging as the primary targets and the Bears favoring a run-heavy offensive scheme, Mooney's fantasy prospects are limited. In Week 15, the Bears face the Browns, who allow the second-fewest points per game to wide receivers. Additionally, anticipated rainy weather in Cleveland suggests a challenging day for passing. Mooney's lack of recent consistency makes him a questionable lineup choice not only for Week 15 but also for the foreseeable future.

From RotoBaller

Dec 10 9:30pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney has faced a challenging season, lacking touchdowns since Week 1 and exceeding 50 yards in just three games. Week 14 saw the 26-year-old match his season-high target count from Week 1 with seven, but he only managed two catches for 44 yards in the team's 28-13 win over the Lions. While it marked his first game in four with over 30 yards, the significant targets hint at untapped potential. With DJ Moore leading the passing game and Cole Kmet as a secondary option, Mooney struggles to secure a consistent role in a run-focused team. In Week 15 against the Browns, who allow the second-fewest points to receivers, Mooney's reliance on big plays or touchdowns positions him better for the bench unless he establishes a more dependable role in the offense, making his fantasy outlook uncertain heading into the crucial matchups.

From RotoBaller

Dec 8 1:00pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney has faced challenges throughout the year, managing just three games with at least 50 yards. The 26-year-old has been touchdown-less since Week 1 and experienced a dip in performance with less than five PPR points in three consecutive games. Despite playing 81% of the snaps in Week 12, Mooney caught only two of his three targets for a mere six yards. This disappointing display marked the eighth time this season that Mooney had two or fewer receptions, with five instances of gaining 20 or fewer yards. Heading into Week 14 against the Lions, who allow the 11th-most points to wide receivers this season, Mooney's outlook remains uncertain. In their Week 11 encounter, he managed just one catch for 24 yards. Considering the recent struggles, it's advisable to keep Mooney on benches in most leagues for Week 14.

From RotoBaller

Nov 28 11:10am ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney faced another unproductive outing in Week 12, securing just two catches on three targets for a mere six yards in the team's narrow 12-10 victory over the Vikings. Despite an 81% snap share, the 26-year-old struggled to leave a mark, extending his streak to three consecutive games with less than five PPR points. Throughout the season, he has only reached double-digit fantasy points twice. Over the last three games, Mooney has managed just five catches on eight targets, diminishing his value across most fantasy formats. Despite the improved passing attack with Justin Fields at the helm, Mooney remains overshadowed by DJ Moore and Cole Kmet in the offensive hierarchy. As the Bears enter their bye week in Week 13 before facing the Lions in Week 14who allow the seventh-most points per game to receiversMooney's fantasy outlook remains uncertain, urging managers to reevaluate his role on their rosters.

From RotoBaller

Nov 25 6:20pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney faced a challenging Week 11, securing just one catch on one target for 24 yards despite being on the field for 60% of the snaps. Despite his significant playing time, the 26-year-old was targeted only once, rendering him virtually nonexistent in the game. Mooney's season has been marked by limited success, with just one game surpassing 60 yards and no touchdowns since Week 1. While the return of Justin Fields improves the overall potential of the Bears' passing attack, Mooney has struggled to find consistency. As the Vikings allow the ninth-most points per game to receivers this season, it's a tempting matchup. However, Mooney is advised to remain on fantasy benches until he can demonstrate reliable volume in the Bears' offensive scheme.

From RotoBaller

Nov 19 7:50pm ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney was quiet in Week 11, catching his only target for 24 yards in the team's 31-26 loss to the Lions. Despite the return of quarterback Justin Fields from a thumb injury, Mooney struggled, marking his fifth game this season with one reception or less. The 26-year-old has endured a challenging year, with only one game surpassing 80 yards and no touchdowns since Week 1. In Week 12, the Bears are set to take on the Vikings, who allow the fourth-most points per game to receivers this season. Despite the enticing matchup, Mooney's inconsistency in an air attack dominated by DJ Moore raises concerns about his reliability for fantasy lineups. Until he can showcase more consistency, fantasy managers may need to exercise caution before placing Mooney in their starting lineups.
