Free-agent LB Jihad Ward (Giants) signed with the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, March 20. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The Minnesota Vikings are signing edge rusher Jihad Ward and linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN. Ward spent last season with the New York Giants, and he posted a career-high five sacks. The former second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has struggled to develop into a high-end pass-rusher, but he'll provide depth behind Jonathan Greenard after the loss of Danielle Hunter. Grugier-Hill has played for five teams since entering the NFL in 2016, racking up 338 tackles, six sacks, three interceptions, eight passes defended, and 34 run stuffs in 115 games. The Vikings appear to be in a period of transition, so these veterans should help ease the growing pains in 2024.

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with cornerback Shaquill Griffin, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. Griffin spent last season with the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers, collecting 39 tackles and one sack in 13 games. Overall, the 2018 third-round pick has totaled 366 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, seven interceptions, 64 passes defended, and 10 run stuffs in 89 games with the Seahawks, Jaguars, Texans, and Panthers. The 28-year-old's best days as a player are likely behind him, but he could still be a solid depth player for the rebuilding Vikings in 2024.

The Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent defensive tackle Jerry Tillery to a one-year deal worth up to $3.75 million on Thursday, according to a source. The former first-round pick (28th overall) by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2019 draft out of Notre Dame played the 2023 campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders and had 31 tackles (11 solo), two sacks, six QB hits and a fumble recovery in 17 games played (six starts). The 27-year-old figures to provide interior depth on Minnesota's defensive line in 2024 and won't be on the fantasy radar in IDP leagues. Tillery has totaled 147 tackles (76 solo), 12.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 41 QB hits, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 79 games (39 starts) in his five NFL seasons to this point.

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings S Harrison Smith's restructured deal will pay him $9 million in the upcoming season.

From TheHuddle

Mar 13 6:50pm ET

Six-time Pro Bowl safety Harrison Smith has agreed to a restructured contract and will play his 13th season with the Minnesota Vikings at age 35 in 2024, according to sources. Smith was the 29th overall pick in 2012 by the Vikings out of Notre Dame. He has 34 career interceptions and has become one of the best safeties of his era in the NFL. Smith set a career-high in defensive snaps played last year and had 93 tackles (60 solo), a career-high-tying three sacks, six QB hits and three forced fumbles in 17 starts. It was good enough to place him at No. 35 in overall fantasy points among defensive backs in IDP setups. While not necessarily an every-week starter in those fantasy formats, Smith has remained productive well into his 30s and can be a streamer at the defensive back position.

Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel agreed to terms on Monday on a two-year deal for $20 million with the Minnesota Vikings, according to his agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Mathan. The deal includes $14 million guaranteed. Van Ginkel heads to Minnesota after five years in Miami, where he recorded a total of 250 tackles (156 solo) and 17 sacks in 73 games played (42 starts). He had 69 tackles (42 solo), a career-high six sacks, eight tackles for loss, 19 QB hits, an interception returned for a touchdown, eight passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 17 regular-season games (11 starts) in 2023. While not exactly on the IDP fantasy radar entering the 2024 campaign, Van Ginkel should definitely have a starting role in his new digs next season.

The Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent linebacker Blake Cashman to a three-year deal worth up to $25.5 million on Monday, according to his agent, Blake Baratz. It's a big deal for the Minnesota native, who grew up in Eden Prairie and played for the Minnesota Gophers. Cashman cashes in on free agency after a career year for the Houston Texans in 2023 in which he recorded a career-high 106 tackles (56 solo), two sacks, nine tackles for loss, five QB hits, his first career interception, five passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 14 games (13 starts). The 27-year-old's boost in production came as the Texans moved him from outside linebacker to middle linebacker due to injuries in the middle of their defense. For fantasy purposes, there should be better linebackers with higher ceilings to choose from than Cashman in IDP setups.

Minnesota Vikings safety Theo Jackson is re-signing with the team ahead of the 2024 season. Originally a sixth-round pick out of the University of Tennessee in 2022, Jackson was released during final roster cuts by the Tennessee Titans. Minnesota signed him afterward, and he has been a key special teams contributor and rotational defensive back over the last two seasons. The 25-year-old has compiled 30 tackles, one interception, and one pass defended in 26 games to start his career.

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. (knee) said he suffered a Grade 3 MCL sprain on the third play of the Dec. 16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Murphy played through the injury in that game, but he didn't appear in another contest the rest of the season. The good news is that he doesn't need surgery, is in the second week of jogging and expects to have a full offseason. The 26-year-old should be ready for organized team activities, training camp and the start of the 2024 regular season. Murphy was the Arizona Cardinals' second-round selection in 2019 out of Washington. He spent the first four years of his NFL career in the desert before joining Minnesota in 2023 and recording 57 tackles (43 solo), four tackles for loss, three interceptions, 13 passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 14 starts.
