2020 RTSports Outlook

Brissett attempted four passes as the top backup for the Colts last year. He should continue to fill that role going forward. Brissett has past starting experience and done pretty well in that role, making him valuable NFL backup. Brissett is a top athlete that can make all the throws. He moves around the pocket well and can make plenty of plays with this feet. He struggles with accuracy down the field, though, and tends to run too soon when in the pocket.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Luck is always an injury risk, so don't discount Brissett to start some games this year. And if that happens, he could help fantasy teams in the right matchup.

The Indianapolis Colts fully intend on keeping quarterback Jacoby Brissett despite signing Philip Rivers, according to sources. Brissett's contract calls for $7 million guaranteed on Sunday and a $6 million salary in 2020, but the team considers him a special player and wants to keep him in the fold. The 27-year-old disappointed in taking over for Andrew Luck in 2019, throwing for 2,942 yards (6.6 yards per completion), 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in 15 games played. But the Colts like his makeup and he'll be a valuable backup in case Rivers continues to decline or gets injured in 2020. He'll obviously be off the fantasy radar in standard-sized leagues to begin the season as the backup, though.

The Indianapolis Colts are signing left tackle Anthony Castonzo to a two-year, $33 million contract extension on Sunday, according to a source. Castonzo was contemplating retirement this offseason, but he'll be back as the team's starting left tackle. The 31-year-old has never been selected to a Pro Bowl, but he continues to be one of the better left tackles in the league, and he's missed only five games in the last four seasons due to injury. His return is great news for an already strong Indy offensive line, and it's good news for quarterback Jacoby Brissett or whoever the Colts have as their starting signal-caller in 2020.

Mar 6 12:40pm ET

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni was impressed with quarterback Jacoby Brissett's pocket awareness and ability to extend plays outside the pocket in 2019, but he'd like to see him improve on scanning the field and getting the ball out of his hands faster. "He always knew where to go with the football, and then we just speed that up a little bit," Sirianni said. The 27-year-old is no guarantee to open the 2020 season under center, however, as the Colts are still up in the air as to whether he can be their franchise QB. They'll take a hard look at this year's great free-agent crop of quarterbacks as a result. But even if Brissett is the starter come this fall, he's more of a middling QB2 for fantasy owners without a ton of upside. The Colts receivers must also stay healthy for him to have a chance of reaching his ceiling.

Mar 5 11:03pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett needs to make quicker decisions with the football, according to offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni. 'He always knew where to go with the football, and then we just speed that up a little bit,' Siranni said.

Fantasy Spin: After a solid start to the year, Brissett threw just four touchdown passes over his final nine games. He isn't a lock to be the starter for the Colts next year, but if he is under center in Indy, he's a low-end QB2 candidate.

From TheHuddle

Feb 25 5:43pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett needs to be seen in a larger sample of work, according to general manager Chris Ballard Tuesday, Feb. 25. 'We did a 2-year deal with Jacoby to find out,' Ballard said at a press conference from the Scouting Combine. 'We like Jacoby Brissett. Love what he stands for. It was almost a tale of two seasons where we're 5-2, he's playing good football. He had the injury and we had injuries as a team and we kind of slid down. We did the short term deal to see what we had. To say we're going to create competition, we're going to create competition at any spot. That's going to be a year-to-year thing.'

Fantasy Spin: Brissett threw for 2,942 yards with 18 touchdowns and just six interceptions last season, but he was able to lead the Colts to a record of just 7-8 in his 15 starts. It's clear he needs more help in the passing game than he had in 2019, and he should be able to be a serviceable QB2 in fantasy leagues if Indy makes some additions this offseason.

From TheHuddle

Feb 23 3:13pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett is a player on the rise, but the Colts will consider all options at quarterback this offseason, according to owner Jim Irsay.

Fantasy Spin: The Colts have been linked to Philip Rivers this offseason, but the team can consider several options if they do not want Brissett to be the starter in 2020. The Colts have a solid group of pass catchers, so their starter could be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues depending on the player.

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett (knee) will not require surgery on his knee during the offseason, according to GM Chris Ballard.

From TheHuddle

Jan 2 6:00pm ET

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said that Andrew Luck isn't coming out of retirement. "Andrew is retired," Ballard said. "I think we all need to accept that. Thats where hes at. Hes retired. ... Do I talk to Andrew? Yes I do. Havent talked to him here in a few weeks. Im sure hes been busy being a father." Without Luck in 2019, Indy finished 7-9 with Jacoby Brissett under center. Brissett started the year strong but crumbled down the stretch with his top receiver, T.Y. Hilton, injured. Brissett threw just two touchdowns and lost two fumbles in the final four games. Ballard said the jury is still out on Brissett heading into 2020, and he's become a mediocre QB2 with limited upside in this run-first offense.

From RotoBaller

Jan 2 12:40pm ET

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said that "the jury is still out on Jacoby Brissett" after the 2019 season. In the first season after Andrew Luck's surprise retirement, Brissett went 272-for-447 (60.8 percent) for 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in 15 games. He added 56 rushing attempts for 228 yards and four touchdowns. Brissett was notably better in the first half of the season, but he crumbled with wide receiver T.Y. Hilton injured for most of the season. The 27-year-old flashed at times and can use his legs to extend plays, but the ceiling isn't very high, especially in this run-first offense. Brissett will go into the 2020 season as a midrange QB2.

From RotoBaller

Jan 2 11:03am ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett is expected to be the starting quarterback in 2020, but general manager Chris Ballard doesn't rule out the possibility that could change. 'The jury's still out,' Ballard said.

Fantasy Spin: Brissett handled an impossible situation as well as anyone could with the sudden retirement of Andrew Luck. He threw for 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in 15 games. He's going to be a QB2 in fantasy if he's still at the helm.

Dec 30 5:50pm ET

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo said he will mull his options before deciding to return for another season in 2020. Since being drafted with the 22nd overall pick of the 2011 draft, Castonzo has been one of the better left tackles in the NFL. Losing the 31-year-old going forward would be bad news for both quarterback Jacoby Brissett and running back Marlon Mack next season.

From RotoBaller

Dec 29 8:43pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett completed 12-of-25 passes for 162 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in a Week 17 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars while running for 17 yards with two lost fumbles. RB Marlon Mack ended with 15 runs for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Nyheim Hines rushed seven times for 34 yards while adding three grabs for 22 yards. WR T.Y. Hilton finished up strong with a team-high 72 receiving yards on three grabs, while TE Marcus Johnson ended up with two catches for 32 yards and TE Jack Doyle disappointed with one snag for six yards.

From TheHuddle

Dec 27 1:03am ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett has had his footwork affected by his knee injury, in the opinion of offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni, who says that Brissett's drops haven't been the same since the knee injury, which could affect his accuracy.

Fantasy Spin: Brissett has done little over the past month-plus, so the Colts certainly have to hope that there are underlying factors at work. It'll be interesting to see how the team approaches the quarterback position this offseason.

From TheHuddle

Dec 22 10:40pm ET

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett saw his team win big in Week 16, but it wasn't because of the work that he was doing. He finished the day 14 of 27 for 119 yards, but he added three carries for 37 yards and a touchdown. After being a safe start for the first half of the season, his fantasy owners are likely glad that his year is mostly over. This team relies on the running game to control the clock. It's unlikely that he'll ever be a consistent big-game threat as a high-volume thrower.

From RotoBaller

Dec 22 6:33pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett completed 14-of-27 passes for 119 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers, although he did run for 37 yards and a score.

Fantasy Spin: Brissett didn't do much in the pass game, but at least he ran for the score to give fantasy owners something. He and the Colts will wrap up the season in Jacksonville in Week 17.

From TheHuddle

Dec 21 5:50pm ET

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been struggling as of late, but he has the chance to bounce back in Week 16. The Carolina Panthers have allowed the fourth-most points per game this season, and their passing defense hasn't exactly been elite. He got wide receiver T.Y. Hilton back last week, but that was in a mostly limited fashion. He should be a full-go this week, which gives this offense a big boost. Brissett isn't the best option this week, but if you have a bad matchup for your starter, there are worse streaming options.

From RotoBaller

Dec 17 8:53pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett is still the team's quarterback, according to head coach Frank Reich Tuesday, Dec. 17. Reich added that backup Chad Kelly won't receive reps over the final two games, barring injuries.

Fantasy Spin: Brissett got off to a tremendous start to the season, but he has failed to throw for a touchdown in two of the Colts' last four games. He'll be a high-end QB2 in 2020 drafts unless the Colts are able to significantly improve their receiving corps behind T.Y. Hilton.

From TheHuddle

Dec 17 2:10pm ET

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett had a good matchup in Week 15, but he was unable to convert that into fantasy production. He finished 18-of-34 for 165 yards and one carry for seven yards. Brissett and the Colts continue to fade, and their playoff hopes are officially done. Brissett was a QB2 for the majority of the first half of the season, but it's looking like he is less and less of a consistent option for fantasy purposes.

From RotoBaller

Dec 16 11:33pm ET

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett completed 18-of-34 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Spin: The Colts were able to break the shutout late, but it was an ugly overall night for the Colts. Brissett was inaccurate, and a shootout under the dome never materialized. He'll look to bounce back in Week 16 against Carolina at home.

From TheHuddle

Dec 9 3:50pm ET

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett had a good matchup in Week 14, and he took advantage of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished the day 19-of-36 for 251 yards and two touchdowns. He also added four carries for 26 yards. Brissett has been without a number of receiving weapons this year due to injuries, but he was able to utilize the weapons he did have on Sunday afternoon. Brissett's matchups get difficult down the stretch, and he'll be trending downward with the Colts playoff hopes taking a major hit with the latest loss.
