The Washington Redskins exercised the 2020 team option on running back Adrian Peterson on Wednesday. Peterson led the team in attempts (211), rushing yards (898) and rushing touchdowns (five) in 2019 and will enter the 2020 season having started in 154 of the 164 games he's appeared in. The veteran is ranked eighth in NFL history in rushing attempts (3,036) and sixth in yards per game (86.7). He needs 1,054 rushing yards to pass Barry Sanders for fourth on the all-time list and needs 13 rushing TDs to pass Marcus Allen for No. 3. Peterson is a seven-time Pro Bowler and four time first-team All-Pro, but he'll take a back seat to Derrius Guice next year if Guice can stay healthy.

Feb 19 11:33am ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson's option was exercised by the team Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson will have a $2.25 million base salary and will count $3,109,375 against the salary cap. Peterson will serve as insurance as Derrius Guice must stay healthy. Peterson has RB5 appeal, but he has little upside.

From TheHuddle

Feb 8 9:23pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson is 'likely' to have the second year of his contract picked up, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson topped 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2019, running for 898 yards and five scores. Derrius Guice should lead the backfield if he can stay healthy, but Peterson can be a RB3 or flex option if thrust into the starting role.

From TheHuddle

Dec 30 9:50am ET

Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson went for 78 yards on 13 carries against the Cowboys to end the 2019 season. The best way to recap his second year with the Redskins would be to say that he did the best he could with what he had. Peterson served as Washington's featured back for most of the year, with oft-injured youngster Derrius Guice struggling to stay on the field. For the most part, he produced at around the clip you'd hope for from a 34-year old running back with the football equivalent of 150,000 miles on his engine. On a better team, the level of opportunity Peterson saw on a weekly basis may have yielded a mid-range RB2 fantasy season. It's clear that Peterson still has enough left in the tank to be a serviceable contributor in the NFL, and the Redskins possess a team option on him for 2020. With Guice missing nearly all of his first two NFL seasons due to injury, it wouldn't be astounding to see the Redskins keep Peterson around to help out in the backfield, assuming he wants to continue playing.

Dec 29 8:03pm ET

Washington Redskins QB Case Keenum completed 18-of-37 passes for 206 yards, one touchdowns and one interception in a Week 17 lopsided loss against the Dallas Cowboys. RB Adrian Peterson ended up with 13 runs for a team-high 78 yards, while WR Steven Sims Jr. posted five catches for a team-best 81 yards and a score. TE Hale Hentges also surprised with four catches for 62 yards on seven targets. DE Montez Sweat also wrapped up the season with two sacks, five solo tackles and three quarterback hits.

Dec 27 4:03pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 27, and is not on the injury report for Week 17.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson will receive most of the work at running back against the Dallas Cowboys and could be a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 27 3:33pm ET

Washington Redskins S Landon Collins (shoulder), QB Dwayne Haskins (ankle) and WR Terry McLaurin (concussion) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys. S Troy Apke (knee) and CB Josh Norman (illness) did not practice Friday, Dec. 27, and are listed as questionable. OT Morgan Moses (knee) was limited in practice for a second straight day and is also listed as questionable. LB Ryan Anderson (Achilles, shoulder), OT Donald Penn (knee), LB Cole Holcomb (thumb) and RB Adrian Peterson (toe) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

Dec 27 11:40am ET

Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson will look to close out the 2019 season on a high note against the Cowboys in Week 17. The veteran has scored a touchdown in four straight games, and has routinely seen a touch count well into double digits when he's been the lead running back for the Redskins. The Cowboys represent a relatively difficult matchup for running backs, holding the position to 4.1 yards per carry on the season. Peterson's value stems from having the lion's share of his team's rushing workload, and he should once again be in line for enough of it to warrant flex consideration with a touchdown-driven ceiling.

From RotoBaller

Dec 26 5:03pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (toe) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 26.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson likely is receiving a day off and should return to practice Friday, Dec. 27. He has played well this season when he has been the main running back for the Redskins and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 26 4:23pm ET

Washington Redskins S Landon Collins (shoulder), QB Dwayne Haskins (ankle), WR Terry McLaurin (concussion), CB Fabian Moreau (hamstring), S Montae Nicholson (neck, ankle), CB Josh Norman (illness) and RB Adrian Peterson (toe) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 26. S Troy Apke (knee) and OT Morgan Moses (knee) were limited. LB Ryan Anderson (Achilles, shoulder), OT Donald Penn (knee) and LB Cole Holcomb (thumb) practiced in full.

From TheHuddle

Dec 26 1:03pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson said Thursday, Dec. 26, he wants to keep playing. 'I can see myself playing to 40,' the 34-year-old running back said. 'People look at that and say 'oh my god, that's crazy,' but they've been doing that for the past two years and -- surprise, surprise -- I'm still able to do it at a high level.'

Fantasy Spin: AD is 17th in the league in rushing and needs 180 more yards in the season finale for his ninth 1,000-yard season. He remains a RB3/flex option in the right matchups, but we'll see what his D.C. future is with a new coaching regime expected to take over this offseason.

From TheHuddle

Dec 22 9:40pm ET

Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson turned in his least lucrative fantasy outings in several weeks on Sunday, accumulating just 36 rushing yards on 15 carries. Luckily, Peterson found the endzone in the fourth quarter to keep from totally torpedoing the championship hopes of his fantasy owners. Week 16 marked Peterson's fourth straight with a score, and he's managed to find a way to bring back flex value every time he's seen at least 13 carries this season. He'll look to finish strong against the Cowboys next week.

From RotoBaller

Dec 22 9:23pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson ran 15 times for 36 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the New York Giants while adding two grabs for 19 yards on his two targets.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson held onto the starting tailback job down the stretch, but it's unlikely he'll be up for a starting gig heading into 2020. He went undrafted in many leagues only to emerge as a legit fantasy option, so perhaps he'll surprise again next season.

From TheHuddle

Dec 20 3:23pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 20, and is not on the injury report for Week 16.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson has rushed for at least 66 yards and one touchdown in each of the last three games and should have a favorable matchup this week. He can be a No. 2 running back in most standard leagues this week.

From TheHuddle

Dec 20 2:33pm ET

Washington Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar (hamstring) did not practice for a second straight day on Friday, Dec. 20, and has been ruled out for Week 16 versus the New York Giants. CB Fabian Moreau (hamstring) did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. S Landon Collins (Achilles) was upgraded to a full practice Friday and is listed as questionable. DL Jonathan Allen (toe), S Montae Nicholson (ankle), OT Donald Penn (knee), LB Ryan Anderson (shoulder, hand), QB Dwayne Haskins (ankle), LB Cole Holcomb (thumb), RB Adrian Peterson (toe) and WR Steven Sims (non-injury) were full participants in practice Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Dec 20 11:30am ET

Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson may not be the 25-carry, 150-yard workhorse he used to be, but he gets the job done. Peterson has racked up at least 66 yards on the ground in every game this season in which he's seen at least 13 carries. He's also scored a touchdown in each of his last three. He'll be in line for the same volume he's accustomed to this weekend as Dwayne Haskins continues to operate the Redskins offense with training wheels. The Giants are a middling matchup for running backs, but Peterson has made good enough on the opportunity sent his way to view him as a flex option this week in standard leagues.

From RotoBaller

Dec 19 4:13pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (toe) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson has received the last few Thursdays off and is in no danger of missing the Week 16 game. He will receive plenty of carries against the New York Giants and should be a starting option in all leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 19 3:53pm ET

Washington Redskins S Landon Collins (Achilles), CB Fabian Moreau (hamstring), CB Quinton Dunbar (hamstring), RB Adrian Peterson (toe) and WR Steven Sims (non-injury) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 19. DL Jonathan Allen (toe), S Montae Nicholson (ankle) and OT Donald Penn (knee) were limited. LB Ryan Anderson (shoulder, hand), QB Dwayne Haskins (ankle) and LB Cole Holcomb (thumb) practiced in full.

From TheHuddle

Dec 18 4:13pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (toe) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Spin: Peterson is trying to pass Barry Sanders for fourth on the all-time rushing yards list by the end of the season. He has a great matchup this week to help get him there, and he should receive plenty of work.

From TheHuddle

Dec 15 9:43pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson rushed 16 times for 66 yards and a touchdown and caught all three of his targets for 25 yards in a 37-27 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15.

Fantasy Spin: An injury to Derrius Guice has Peterson leading the Washington backfield once again, and he has topped 75 total yards and scored in each of the past three games. He's a legitimate RB2 candidate heading into a favorable Week 16 matchup against the New York Giants.
