2020 RTSports Outlook

Coleman showed some flashes of big things his first season with the 49ers, but was more miss than hit throughout the year. He had 11 games with fewer than 50-rushing yards. Coleman was 39th overall in fantasy running back scoring. HIs biggest plus was finding the end zone, scoring seven times. He had just 724 total yards, though, and averaged just 4.0 yards per carry. His numbers were actually down some compared to his production with the Falcons. Coleman is likely No. 2 or 3 on the depth chart his year but will get his weekly touches in this run-heavy offense. Coleman has elite speed and can make a lot of plays to the outside. He also catches the ball well. He will make a lot of plays in open space. He isn't much of an inside runner but has made strides in that area since entering the league.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Last season broke a streak of three straight seasons in the top 25 in fantasy running back scoring for Coleman. He has potential for the big game but shouldn't be drafted as anything more than a No. 3 or 4 fantasy back. A season similar to last year seems about right for Coleman, especially after Raheem Mostert emerged for the team late in the year. Look for around 700 total yards, five touchdowns and 30 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

49ers running back Tevin Coleman seems to be a forgotten man during this offseason. He was the lead back in SF going into last season but injured his ankle during a Week 1 bout against Tampa Bay's stout run defense. Coleman returned in Week 5 and blasted a poor Browns' defense for 97 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries then dismantled the Panthers' league-worst run defense in Week 8 but just could not provide consistently during the rest of the season. High-ankle sprains tend to linger and unfortunately, it is fair to assume that Coleman was hampered by it during the year given that he struggled to run in the back half of the year. He hardly averaged more than 3 yards per carry past Week 8 and saw his carry numbers dwindle to the single-digits. Coleman had lost the starting job to Raheem Mostert who is now getting selected roughly 50 picks ahead of him. While Mostert surely earned the starting role for 2020, there is no guarantee that the late-breakout RB maintains that level of production and takes full control of that backfield. If Coleman can prove early-on that he is still more than competent, his double-digit round ADP will prove to be a steal given that running back is extremely scarce. He could even regain the starting role mid-season.

San Francisco 49ers RBs Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert will likely 'share the load' on early downs in 2020, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Fantasy Spin: It's an interesting yet unsurprising notion after Mostert finished the season about as well as any running back in the league. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has long been a proponent of Coleman, however, and views him as a nice complement because he runs like a bigger back. Mostert should still be considered the better fantasy option entering the season, but he could end up being a little more inconsistent than owners might expect if Coleman stays healthy.

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman is a possibility to be traded or released in the coming weeks, according to SI.com's Albert Breer.

Fantasy Spin: The emergence of Raheem Mostert figures to make it difficult for San Francisco to justify paying Coleman $4.8 million in salary and bonuses in 2020. With Matt Breida and Jerick McKinnon also on the roster, the 49ers can feel pretty confident about their depth at the position barring a rash of injuries. Coleman averaged a career-worst 4.0 yards per carry last season and will likely have a difficult time finding another spot that will allow him to be relevant in fantasy if his days are numbered in San Francisco.

From TheHuddle

Apr 11 2:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman faced defenses deploying eight or more players in the box on a league-high 40.15 percent of his rushing attempts in 2019.

Fantasy Spin: That might help explain that while Coleman tied Raheem Mostert for the team lead in rushing attempts (137) in 2019, he finished third in yards with 544 and was the only one of the team's top three rushers (including Matt Breida) who didn't average at least five yards per carry. Coleman only had 11 combined rushing attempts in the NFC title game and Super Bowl, and don't be surprised if Mostert or possibly a rookie draft pick opens the season as the Niners' likely lead back.

From TheHuddle

Feb 3 12:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman rushed for 28 yards on five totes and caught a three-yard pass in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. Coleman received the nominal start and ripped a 17-yard carry to jolt the offense early on, but he barely scratched the field after halftime as the Niners leaned on Raheem Mostert. As was typical down the stretch, game flow benefited Mostert as the Niners held the lead in the second half before losing in the final minutes. After signing with the Niners last offseason, Coleman amassed 724 scrimmage yards while dealing with inconsistency and injuries. Hell probably enter 2020 with a shot to lead the backfield, making him a backend RB2 in fantasy.

From RotoBaller

Feb 2 10:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20 of his 31 passes for 219 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in a 31-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, Feb. 2. RB Raheem Mostert rushed 12 times for 58 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for two yards, and RB Tevin Coleman rushed five times for 28 yards and caught one pass for three yards. WR Deebo Samuel caught five passes for 39 yards and rushed three times for 53 yards, WR Emmanuel Sanders caught three of his five targets for 38 yards, and TE George Kittle hauled in four passes for 36 yards. FB Kyle Juszczyk caught three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. SS Jimmie Ward notched a game-high 11 tackles, DE Nick Bosa recorded a sack, and DL DeForest Buckner logged 1.5 sacks.

San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman (shoulder), linebacker Kwon Alexander (pectoral) and safety Jaquiski Tartt (ribs) all practiced in full on Friday and were taken off the final injury report for the Super Bowl against the Chiefs this Sunday. Coleman dislocated his right shoulder in the NFC Championship, but he'll be available to play in the big game. The question is how many touches he'll receive behind backfield leader Raheem Mostert against KC. There's little question that Mostert will be the guy, but the Niners have both Coleman and Matt Breida if they want to get tricky and mix things up. Alexander played sparingly in the last playoff game but could be asked to do more on Sunday, including trying to slow down Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce. Coleman will be a cheap long shot for DFS gamers this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Jan 31 3:13pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 31, and is not on the injury report for Super Bowl LIV.

Fantasy Spin: Coleman likely will be sharing playing time with Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida during the game but may still have a solid role in the offense. He can be considered a flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 30 7:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) remained limited at practice Thursday, Jan. 30.

Fantasy Spin: Despite the status, head coach Kyle Shanahan has said Coleman will play in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, Feb. 2. He's expected to be the No. 2 back in a timeshare with Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida.

From TheHuddle

Jan 30 6:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) will 'be good to go' for Super Bowl LIV Sunday, Feb. 2, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Thursday, Jan. 30.

Fantasy Spin: Coleman has been able to practice in a limited fashion for much of the week, and he was never truly at risk of missing the Super Bowl after dislocating his shoulder in the NFC Championship. He's likely to be the No. 2 back behind Raheem Mostert, but along with Matt Breida, any of the three could take over if they get hot.

From TheHuddle

Jan 29 5:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman (shoulder), along with linebacker Kwon Alexander (pectoral) and safety Jaquiski Tartt (ribs), were limited in practice on Wednesday. All three players should be active in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs, but it remains to be seen how much they will play. Coleman had only six carries for 21 yards in the NFC Championship before dislocating his right shoulder. However, it looks like he's on track to suit up this Sunday, but he'll once again be playing second fiddle to Raheem Mostert and could lose some touches to Matt Breida as well. Coleman won't be expensive in DFS, but he won't have much upside.

From RotoBaller

Jan 29 5:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Fantasy Spin: Coleman may be a game-time decision for the Super Bowl, but he appears to have a good chance to play based on his practice participation. He will be part of a committee at running back if he plays and can be a possible flex option.

From TheHuddle

Jan 27 10:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) said his injured shoulder is feeling good but wants to see how his range of motion is and how he will be able to manage the pain in his shoulder.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor Coleman's practice participation this week to see if he will be in any danger of missing the Super Bowl. He will be part of a committee if he plays and can be a flex option.

From TheHuddle

Jan 24 6:13pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 24, and is considered questionable for Super Bowl LIV.

Fantasy Spin: Coleman probably will need to practice at some point next week if he wants to play in the Super Bowl. He will share playing time with Raheem Mostert and Maatt Breida if he is active and could be a flex option.

From TheHuddle

Jan 24 5:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman's (shoulder) MRI results were positive, but Coleman did not participate in any practices this week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to keep an eye on Coleman's practice participate next week to see if he has a chance to play in Super Bowl LIV. Coleman will be part of a committee if he is active and should see some touches during the game. He can be considered a flex option.

From TheHuddle

Jan 23 6:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) didn't participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 23.

Fantasy Spin: Coleman did some solo work as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder. Expect him to play in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, Feb. 2.

From TheHuddle

Jan 23 5:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) was seen running on a side field ahead of the team's practice Thursday, Jan. 23.

Fantasy Spin: It appears Coleman will be able to suit up for Super Bowl LIV after dislocating his shoulder in the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers. He'll continue splitting work with Raheem Mostert and, to a lesser degree, Matt Breida. Any or all of the three could have a big game, but it's Mostert with the hot hand following the NFC Championship.

From TheHuddle

Jan 23 4:50pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman (shoulder) is doing some running on a side field at the team's practice on Thursday. Despite sitting out of practice, Coleman appears very much in play to suit up for the Super Bowl against the Chiefs on Feb. 2. He suffered a dislocated right shoulder in the NFC Championship win over the Packers, but Coleman has an extra week to heal up and should be good to go for the big game. He will continue to serve as a change-of-pace back for Raheem Mostert, who ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns against the Packers.

From RotoBaller

Jan 22 7:50pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman (shoulder) was unable to practice on Wednesday, but the team remains hopeful that he will be available for the Super Bowl against the Chiefs. The team didn't practice on Wednesday, but they were required to submit an estimated practice report. Coleman dislocated his right shoulder in the first half of the NFC Championship against the Packers and played just eight snaps. If he's active for the Super Bowl, Coleman will split snaps with Raheem Mostert, who ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns against the Packers. Matt Breida will be the No. 3 back.

From RotoBaller

Jan 22 6:53pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 22. The 49ers did not hold a practice Wednesday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Spin: The 49ers are optimistic about Coleman's status for Super Bowl LIV, but he may be a game-time decision. He will share snaps with Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida if he plays and could be a flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 20 7:50pm ET

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that running back Tevin Coleman (shoulder) suffered a dislocated right shoulder in the NFC Championship win over the Packers on Sunday. Coleman had his shoulder popped back into place and Shanahan thinks that Coleman has a chance to play in the Super Bowl in two weeks. Only time will tell if the 26-year-old will be able to play against Kansas City. He ran the ball six times for 21 yards before his injury and had a season-high 22 totes for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Divisional win over the Vikings. Even if Coleman plays, he'll be second fiddle to Raheem Mostert, who ran for over 200 yards and four scores against Green Bay. Matt Breida would spell Mostert in the backfield if Coleman doesn't gain clearance.
