2024 RTSports Outlook

A move to Minnesota was a great one for Hockenson. He posted huge numbers in the 10 games with his new team, catching 60 passes for 519 yards and three touchdowns. If he plays a full season with the Vikings, Hockenson has 102 receptions for 882 yards and five touchdowns. He was a huge part of the Vikings passing attack. Hockenson was second overall in fantasy tight end scoring. He will continue to get a lot of looks as the No. 1 tight end for the Vikings. Hockenson has three straight seasons with 60-plus receptions. Hockenson is a pretty complete tight end. Hockenson is a very athletic tight end that does it all at the position. He catches the ball well, can makes plays down the field and is a solid blocker.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Hockenson has moved into the elite category of fantasy tight ends. He is a top-five fantasy option with a high weekly ceiling. And a move to Minnesota helped his fantasy value even more. Hockenson can get around 90 receptions for 900 yards and six or seven scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson(back) has seen a significant jump in his 2023 fantasy ADP after a career-best receiving season (86/914/6) in 2022. The 25-year-old displayed a high floor after being traded away from the Detroit Lions, corralling six passes per game in Minnesota. Hockenson collected a substantial 14.1 full-PPR fantasy points per game with the Vikings from Weeks 9 to 17 en route to an overall TE2 season outside of standard settings. The two-time Pro Bowler also flashed a positional-best ceiling with multiple 30-point showcases. Plus, he had a huge effort (10/129) in Minny's Wild Card game last year. Hockenson fully consummated the hype he garnered as the 2018 John Mackey Award winner and a top-10 2019 NFL Draft pick. With Adam Thielen now out of the picture, his departure leaves behind 621 routes run and 22 red-zone targets from last year. While slot man K.J. Osborn and first-round rookie Jordan Addison battle for No. 3 weapon duties at wide receiver, Hockenson should function as quarterback Kirk Cousins' second-favorite target as a complement to superstar Justin Jefferson. Hockenson missed the majority of training camp with an ear infection and lower-back soreness. The fifth-year player was entering the final year of his rookie deal before bagging a four-year, $68.5 million extension on Aug. 31. Any fear that Hockenson was perhaps holding out for a new contract can be quelled after he was nearly a full participant at practice on the same day. It's only a mild concern that the former first-rounder missed so much practice time ahead of his first full year with his new team. The potential for a slow start is not enough to displace Hockenson as a top-five fantasy TE this summer. The field-stretching pass catcher presents a rare blend of floor and ceiling at his position, certainly worthy of a fourth- or fifth-round fantasy choice in 10-team leagues as an every-week, set-and-forget TE1. Hockenson is a legitimate threat to lead TEs in catches; he was on pace for a 100-catch compilation over Weeks 9 to 17.

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (knee) underwent successful surgery on Monday to fix his torn ACL. Hockenson tore both his ACL and MCL in a brutal hit to his right knee on Dec. 26 and missed the remainder of the regular season. With the injury coming so late in 2023, there's a chance the 26-year-old won't be ready to go for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall. Hockenson's rehab will be something to watch closely this spring and summer. When healthy, he's one of the better pass-catching tight ends in fantasy, although with quarterback Kirk Cousins a free agent, he could have a new QB throwing him passes in 2024. In his first full year in Minnesota in 2023 after being traded from the Detroit Lions in 2022, Hockenson caught a career-high 95 passes (127 targets) for a career-high 960 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games played.

Dynasty | T.J. Hockenson tore both his ACL and MCL in the team's loss to the Lions in week 16 Dynasty Analysis: The injury drum beats on, now sidelining one of the top tight ends in the game. With just over nine months to go before the start of the 2024 regular season, Hockenson will be in a race to be back on the field in week one. Full rehabilitation from tearing both ligaments can be extended. Hockenson turns 27 next July and there's no reason to expect anything less than a full recovery but it's an unfortunate injury for the top playmaker. He's currently listed as DLF's TE1 but may slip in value heading into the offseason.

Dec 26 4:20pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (knee) suffered a torn ACL and MCL in the Week 16 loss to the Detroit Lions. He is expected to be placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season. Given the late-season injury, the 26-year-old could start the 2024 season on the PUP list. The former first-round pick signed a four-year, $66 million contract this offseason with Minnesota. Hockenson had career-highs in receptions, receiving, yards, and targets during his first entire season with the Vikings. He caught 95 of 127 targets for 965 yards and five touchdowns over 15 games in 2023. Hockenson will likely undergo surgery in the next few weeks and looks to recover fully in 2024. Josh Oliver is expected to be Minnesota's top tight end with Hockenson sidelined. Fantasy managers searching for tight end help or a replacement for Hockenson can look to add Oliver in most league formats.

Dec 24 3:20pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. The big tight end took a hit to the knee during the beginning of the third quarter. It didn't take long for the Vikings medical staff to rule out Hockenson for the rest of the day. The Vikings offense is shorthanded with wide receiver Jordan Addison (ankle) ruled out as well. That means, K.J. Osborn and Justin Jefferson should be looking at big roles in the second half.

Dec 23 2:40pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to continue his strong season in Week 16 as the Vikings host his former team. Hockenson faces a Lions defense that ranks 23rd versus tight ends in PPR fantasy points allowed this season. The Iowa product saw seven targets last week, as he finished with six receptions for 63 yards. He figures to be second in line for targets from quarterback Nick Mullens, as Justin Jefferson led the team with 10 targets last week. Hockenson is a must-start TE1 option as we continue on in the fantasy playoffs.

Dec 16 5:00pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson caught six of seven targets for 63 yards in the team's 27-24 loss to the Bengals on Saturday. Hockenson was second in line for targets behind Justin Jefferson (10) in this one, but fantasy managers can continue to treat him as an elite TE1 option moving forward as the Vikings look to continue their pass-heavy offensive scheme despite Nick Mullens being under center. The former Detroit Lion has a safe floor on a weekly basis and can be started with confidence no matter what other skill position players are active for the Vikings.

From RotoBaller

Dec 15 5:30pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to take advantage of a great matchup in Week 15 as the Vikings take on the Bengals in Week 15, who rank 32nd against the tight end position in PPR scoring. Hockenson caught five of eight targets for 53 yards in the team's poor offensive performance last week, but fantasy managers can expect a bounce-back performance from the overall TE2 this year. The former Detroit Lion figures to act as a safety blanket for quarterback Nick Mullens in this one, and should be at worst second in line for targets behind All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Hockenson is an elite TE1 option in Week 15.

From RotoBaller

Dec 10 7:50pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson had a team-high five catches for 53 yards in Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite both club's struggles offensively, Hockenson at least got some production for fantasy managers. Of course, the Vikings' instability at the quarterback spot isn't an ideal scenario. However, the 26-year-old is still a starting fantasy option for the Week 15 meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals, even more so if Justin Jefferson (chest) doesn't suit up.

From RotoBaller

Dec 9 4:00pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to keep his strong season rolling in Week 14 as the Vikings take on the Raiders on the road. Hockenson has been a favorite target of quarterback Joshua Dobbs since he arrived in Minnesota, but with Justin Jefferson returning to action on Sunday, Hockenson could struggle to maintain his average of 10 targets per game with Dobbs under center. Nonetheless, the former Detroit Lion figures to be at worst second in line for targets in the pass-heavy Viking's offense, so he will remain a must-start TE1 option whenever he is active.

From RotoBaller

Nov 28 12:50am ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson posted his lowest target volume of the season during Week 12's tough 12-10 defeat to the division-rival Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, bringing in five receptions on six targets for 50 yards and one touchdown. Hockenson's first target didn't arrive until deep into the second quarter amid a dormant first half for the Vikings, who eked out just 76 yards of offense during this interval. The 26-year-old two-time Pro Bowler resurrected during the second half, recording all of his production in the final two quarters, which was highlighted by a late 13-yard score that gave Minnesota a temporary 10-9 advantage. Season-long fantasy managers will now need to find a one-week replacement for Hockenson, who finds himself on a bye in Week 13 before returning to action for a Week 14 interconference clash with the Las Vegas Raiders.

From RotoBaller

Nov 25 6:00pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to keep his strong season going in Week 12 as the Vikings take on the Bears on Monday night. Hockenson's four receptions for 55 yards last week were a bit underwhelming considering the great matchup with the Broncos, but fantasy managers can once again treat him as an elite TE1 option against a Bears defense that has allowed the fourth-most passing yards this season. Justin Jefferson (hamstring) is listed as questionable once again, but it sounds like it would be a surprise if the All-Pro wideout were to be active in this one. Hockenson figures to once again be the top receiving option for quarterback Joshua Dobbs in a plus matchup, meaning he should be considered a must-start option.

Nov 24 5:30pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) was limited in practice on Friday for the second straight day this week. Hockenson continues to work through a rib injury that he's been dealing with for a few weeks, but it hasn't caused him to miss any time and he should be just fine to suit up on Monday night in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears. In the last two games while dealing with the injury, the 26-year-old has piled up a healthy 15 catches for 189 yards and a touchdown with quarterback Joshua Dobbs now leading the offense. All-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson (hamstring) may remain out on Monday, too, so Hockenson remains a locked-in, high-end TE1 for fantasy managers. In the first meeting with Chicago in Week 6, Hockenson had six catches on eight targets for 50 yards.

From RotoBaller

Nov 20 1:10am ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson recorded a team-leading 55 receiving yards and seven targets in Week 11's 21-20 defeat to the Denver Broncos. Hockenson was all alone on a jump pass from quarterback Joshua Dobbs for a 29-yard gain during the second quarter, which was his biggest play of the evening. The 26-year-old more or less functioned as a safety valve the rest of the way on a night where Minnesota clearly game-planned around Denver's cushy run defense. Hockenson's four receptions marked his fewest since Week 4, which happened to be Justin Jefferson's (hamstring) last full game played. It was also a very far cry from Hockenson's rousing 11/134/1 receiving line from last Sunday, but he remains one of fantasy's safest TE1 bets for Week 12 when the Vikings host the division-rival Chicago Bears, with or without Jefferson.

From RotoBaller

Nov 18 2:20pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to stay hot in Week 11 after his performance a week ago against the Falcons. Hockenson caught 11 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown, all while dealing with a rib injury. The former Detroit Lion was on the injury report through practice this week, but he will be a full-go on Sunday night in a juicy matchup against a vulnerable Broncos defense, who rank 31st against the position in terms of fantasy production. Hockenson figures to once again be a go-to target for quarterback Joshua Dobbs, but the potential return of All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring) could cut into his production. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old remains a must-start option as he has proven to be among the elite producers at the position since his arrival in Minnesota.

From RotoBaller

Nov 16 9:20pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) remained a limited participant during Thursday's practice. The big tight end has now been limited in back-to-back practices to begin the week. It's worth noting that Hockenson played through a ribs injury last week. It didn't seem to bother him as he hauled in 11 receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown last week. The expectation is that Hockenson should play in Week 11, barring any setbacks. He should again see heavy involvement in the offense, but could see slightly less targets if wide receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring) is activated from the injured reserve. Regardless, Hockenson is a must-start fantasy option in every format.

From RotoBaller

Nov 15 5:20pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) is still on the injury report in Week 11 and was limited in practice on Wednesday with a rib injury he suffered a few weeks ago. Hockenson hasn't missed any games, though, and had 11 catches on 15 targets for a season-high 134 yards and his fourth touchdown of the year in the Week 10 win over the New Orleans Saints in quarterback Joshua Dobbs' first start with the team. The 26-year-old should be just fine to play on Sunday night against the Denver Broncos. He could see slightly fewer targets if receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring) returns from Injured Reserve, but even then, Hockenson is a must-start, high-end TE1 in fantasy.

From RotoBaller

Nov 14 1:00pm ET

Vikings' TE T.J. Hockenson scored an impressive 30.40 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 10 win against the Saints. Hockenson caught 11 passes for 134 yards with one touchdown.

Nov 13 1:40pm ET

Fantasy managers were worried about Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson's rest-of-season fantasy value when quarterback Kirk Cousins went down with a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 8. But little did they know, Hockenson would post the best stat line of the season just two weeks later in quarterback Joshua Dobbs' first start with the team in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints. The 26-year-old tied his season-high with 11 receptions on a season-high 15 targets for a season-high 134 receiving yards and his fourth touchdown of the year in Sunday's 27-19 win. Hockenson has quickly developed some strong chemistry with Dobbs and will maintain high-end TE1 fantasy value moving forward, although the impending return of All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring) will undoubtedly take some targets away.

From RotoBaller

Nov 12 4:30pm ET

Minnesota Vikings' TE T.J. Hockenson had 11 receptions for 134 yards with one touchdown in Sunday's win against the Saints.

Nov 12 11:40am ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) is officially active in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Hockenson injured his ribs in the Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons but stayed in the game and was never really in doubt to play this weekend after practicing all week. Still, it's good news for a Vikings team that is still without All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring). K.J. Osborn (head) will also be out this Sunday, so Hockenson and rookie first-rounder Jordan Addison will be quarterback Joshua Dobb's top targets for this one. Hockenson may have his snaps limited somewhat, but he should remain in all starting fantasy lineups now that he's officially active.
