2024 RTSports Outlook

Mahomes was the top fantasy scorer at quarterback last season, posting monster numbers once again. The loss of Tyreek Hill was supposed to really hurt Mahomes, but that clearly wasn't the case. He had his usual huge season. Mahomes had at least 20 fantasy points all but two games. He had three or more touchdowns 10 of 17 games. Mahomes finished with a league best in passing yards (5,250) and passing touchdowns (41). Mahomes has four straight 4,000-yard seasons and at least 37 touchdown passes four of five. He might be the best quarterback in the game right now in the prime of his career. Mahomes might have more ability than any quarterback. Mahomes has a rocket for an arm. He reads defenses well and can make big-time plays while on the move. He makes throws that make your jaw drop. Mahomes has been a full-time starter just five seasons, so there is room for improvement from him, which is scary.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mahomes can finish first overall in fantasy quarterback scoring once again and should be gone in most drafts before the start of the third round. He posts super consistent numbers in a pass-first offense that suits his strengths very well. Expect another huge season for Mahomes. He will throw for around 5,000 yards, score around 40 total touchdowns while getting intercepted around 10 times.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be restructuring his contract to create an additional $21.6 million worth of salary cap space for the team in 2024 as they look to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, according to league sources. The move gives the Chiefs some wiggle room to add some players in free agency. It was rumored on Monday that they were interested in former Chicago Bears wideout Darnell Mooney, but he landed with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency. Kansas City could surely use another receiving weapon to help Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice in the passing game after the team's offense was the weakest its been under Mahomes in 2023. Behind Rice, none of Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross or Kadarius Toney were reliable targets for Mahomes last year.

It's pretty obvious, but the Kansas City Chiefs need more viable, reliable wide receivers this offseason, especially a veteran or two to help the offense reclaim its juggernaut status despite just winning back-to-back Super Bowl championships. The Chiefs still have an elite quarterback in Patrick Mahomes and two strong pass-catchers in tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Rashee Rice, but the continual arms race in the AFC is only going to intensify this offseason as the Chargers, Raiders and Broncos look to knock the Chiefs off their perch. The Chiefs would be wise to counter by acquiring better receivers for Mahomes, either through free agency or the draft. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is one of the obvious salary cap cuts that the Chiefs should be able to replace while improving at the position.

Kansas City Chiefs' QB Patrick Mahomes scored an astounding 30.25 fantasy points in Sunday's Superbowl win against the 49ers. Mahomes threw for 333 yards on 34-of-46 with two touchdowns and one interception. Mahomes scored at least 25 fantasy points four times during the regular season.

Dynasty | Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won his third Super Bowl MVP award after leading Kansas City to a 25-22 win over the 49ers. Dynasty Analysis: Mahomes finished the game completing 34-of-46 passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the game. While Mahomes had a down year with "just" 4,183 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, he proved once again to be the toughest player to beat in the postseason. The Chiefs need to add talent around him in the off-season with Travis Kelce nearing retirement but Mahomes is still safe as an elite QB1 in dynasty leagues for years to come.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes collected the third Super Bowl win of his decorated career in Sunday's 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers, completing 34-of-46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception and adding nine carries for 66 yards. San Francisco held Mahomes and company in check during the first two quarters of a thrilling Super Bowl LVIII, but these two heavyweights went punch for punch after halftime. After a botched Niners punt in the third period, Mahomes perhaps caught the defense off guard with a go-ahead 16-yard score to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. K.C. later matched San Fran's 13-play scoring in OT with one of their own, with Mahomes cashing in a game-winning TD from three yards away to Mecole Hardman Jr. Despite the three-time Super Bowl MVP's down year statistically, Mahomes will be a no-brainer top-five fantasy QB1 when it's time for 2024 drafts.

The San Francisco 49ers D/ST should be a close second option for fantasy managers' D/ST slots when they face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas on Sunday for Super Bowl LVIII. San Francisco's fantasy defense has underperformed this season, finishing 10th in the regular season in standard scoring after being taken as a top-3 option in most drafts this summer. In the regular season, they delivered on their promise in terms of limiting opponent scoring, finishing third in the NFL in points allowed. They also did well to create 28 turnovers, good enough to tie for fifth in the league. San Francisco was expected to do better than seventh overall in sacks, however, after spending a good chunk of their payroll on their pass rush. Also holding down their production was a lack of touchdowns, only producing one all season. In two games this postseason, they've totaled three turnovers and two sacks. The Chiefs offense isn't necessarily a powerhouse and Patrick Mahomes set a personal high with 14 interceptions in the regular season this year. To his credit, Mahomes has been tough to bring down, only suffering 26 sacks all season which was the best among regular starters in the NFL. San Francisco's D/ST is an inferior choice to Kansas City's in Super Bowl LVIII, but not by much.

Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes embarks on his fourth career Super Bowl appearance on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. In three Super Bowls, Mahomes owns 738 yards, a 5:4 TD:INT, and a 79.7 passer rating. Since Allegiant Stadium opened in 2020, it's almost been a home away from home for Mahomes. For what it's worth, the two-time MVP has accumulated 1,254 yards, a 10:1 TD:INT, and a 115.9 passer rating in four lifetime contests at the venue. When these teams last met in late October of 2022, Mahomes diced up San Fran for 423 yards and three scores with one pick. With that said, the Niners have given up the fifth-fewest yards per attempt (5.9) and third-fewest points per game (18.4) to date this year, and they were tied for the most interceptions (22) during the regular season. Mahomes has topped 20 fantasy points only once since Week 7 and is a bet-on-talent DFS wager as he looks to hoist his third Lombardi Trophy in the big game.

The Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes advanced to their fourth Super Bowl in the past five years with a 17-10 road win over the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday's AFC Championship game. Mahomes completed 30-of-39 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown, adding 15 yards on six carries. After passing Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski for the most postseason TDs by a QB-receiver combo in the Divisional Round victory over the Buffalo Bills, Mahomes added another by connecting with Travis Kelce from 19 yards away on K.C.'s opening drive to get the future Hall of Fame tight end his 19th career playoff score. With a game-sealing 32-yard pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mahomes and the defending-champion Chiefs punched their ticket to Las Vegas to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11 for a Super Bowl LIV rematch and attempt to repeat as champs for the first time since the 2003-04 New England Patriots.

Jan 26 11:10pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took advantage of an injury-depleted Buffalo Bills defense in the Divisional Round win, but he'll face a much tougher test in Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. Defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald's unit held signal-callers to the fewest fantasy points per game (11.20), passing touchdowns (16), and yards per attempt (5.1) in the regular season. That's not to mention that Baltimore's D ranked first in points per game (16.5) and sacks (58). It's about the stiffest matchup Mahomes could draw, but for what it's worth, the two-time MVP has eclipsed 340 passing yards in each of his four career starts versus the Ravens and totes a 132.5 passer rating with 1,102 yards (10.0 yards per attempt) and a 10:1 TD:INT over his last three outings against them. Whereas Mahomes was a high-end DFS play against the Bills, he's more of a midrange option here at $6,900 on DraftKings.

Jan 26 9:43pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes faces the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game, and in four career starts against Baltimore, Mahomes is averaging 369.8 passing yards per game and has thrown 12 touchdowns compared to two interceptions.

Fantasy Spin: It has been a down season statistically for Mahomes, at least by his lofty standards, but he has owned Baltimore. Don't forget about Mahomes when selecting a quarterback in fantasy playoff contests.

From TheHuddle

Jan 26 4:20pm ET

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially ruled out All-Pro offensive guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) for the AFC Championship tilt on Sunday versus the Ravens in Baltimore. This was the likely outcome after Thuney was injured in the Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. It's unclear if Thuney would be ready in a couple weeks if the Chiefs advance to another Super Bowl, but the 31-year-old's absence is very notable for this weekend's big game against a strong Ravens defensive line that led the NFL in sacks in 2023. It's a downgrade for the entire Chiefs' offense, most notably for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running back Isiah Pacheco (ankle, toe). With Thuney out, expect Nick Allegretti to start at left guard for the Chiefs on Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Jan 24 2:30pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs left guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) is not practicing on Wednesday and is unlikely to play against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Thuney suffered a pectoral injury in the Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills. If he can't suit up on Sunday, it will be a massive loss for the Chiefs' offensive line. The three-time Super Bowl Champion earned first-team All-Pro honors this year and is part of one of the best interior offensive lines in the NFL. Heading into a matchup with stud defensive linemen Michael Pierce and Justin Madubuike, his potential absence is obviously not ideal. Expect Patrick Mahomes to face more interior pressure if Thuney is standing on the sideline.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes pushed all the right buttons as his team held on for a 27-24 road win over the Buffalo Bills, completing 17-of-23 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns with 16 additional yards on six carries in Sunday's Divisional Round. The Chiefs ran just 47 plays to Buffalo's 78 and possessed the ball for less than 24 minutes, but that was all Mahomes needed for an efficient performance. The 28-year-old superstar missed Kelce in the back of the end zone early, but he made no mistake finding his tight end wide open in the second quarter. Mahomes dumped one off to Kelce again for his second score in the third period. In terms of passer rating (131.6), Sunday was Mahomes' best game of the year. Mahomes now hits the road for the second playoff game of his career away from home next Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, and it will be the two-time MVP's sixth straight postseason competing for the AFC title.

From TheHuddle

Jan 20 1:20am ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes topped 300 total yards in last Saturday's win over the Miami Dolphins, but he placed just seventh at his position with 18.6 fantasy points. It was Mahomes' 10th straight outing outside of the top six for fantasy purposes -- despite the field narrowing to 12 wild-card starters -- last accomplishing this feat way back in Week 7. It's no secret that 2023 has been a statistical struggle for Mahomes, even with a pass-heavy approach, largely in part due to K.C.'s lack of downfield threats and reliability in their receiving corps. Mahomes has also struggled to an 85.1 passer rating and 7:5 TD:INT in four career regular-season games versus the Buffalo Bills, but he's kicked it up a notch for at least 325 passing yards and three touchdowns in each of these two teams' past two playoff matchups. Mahomes ranks third among DraftKings QB salaries at $6,800 for the Divisional Round and is a high-end QB1 against Buffalo's injury-plagued defense.
