2021 RTSports Outlook

Mostert made waves late in the season for the 49ers, especially in the playoffs. He had a monster game in the Championship Game, rushing 29 times for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Mostert had double-digit carries five straight games to end his season and all three playoff games for the 49ers. He found the end zone six straight regular season games to end his year. Mostert was 26th overall in fantasy running back scoring despite having double-digit carries just two times his first 11 games. He finished with 952 total yards and 10 touchdowns. Mostert averaged an impressive 5.6 yards per carry. He likely will start this year for the 49ers but will rotate with other backs, getting fewer carries than your normal starter. Mostert doesn't have great size for the position and lacks a little thump, but has good speed and moves in space. He also needs to improve as a receiver if he hopes to be a legit three-down back in the NFL.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mostert earned the right for big playing time this year with his great play in the playoffs. The issue is he could be the odd man out some weeks, causing his production to be erratic. He is going to have some big games, though, so taking him as a No. 2 back is recommended. This offense can churn out the rush-ing yards. Mostert can get around 1,300 total yards, double-digit scores and 30 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

AlthoughJerick McKinnonarrived in San Francisco before the 2018 season, he has yet to play a single offensive snap for the 49ers. McKinnon comes with inherent injury concerns and also faces significant competition for touches in a crowded backfield.Raheem MostertandTevin Colemanare certainly ahead of McKinnon on the depth chart, andJeff Wilson Jr.would be the favorite for goal-line carries if the team lost its two main options. When last healthy, McKinnon was an inefficient runner, averaging below four yards-per-carry in both 2016 and 2017. However, he does possess a dynamic athletic ability that shines through in his receiving work. McKinnon accumulated 51 receptions in his final season with the Vikings, and head coach Kyle Shanahan would likely utilize him more as a pass-catching weapon than a between-the-tackles runner to preserve his health. It will ultimately require a trade or injury for McKinnon to get a chance to display his receiving skills, but presumptive starting running back Raheem Mostert has recently requested to be shipped out of town due to failed contract negotiations. While the odds of a Mostert trade developing are low, such an outcome would make McKinnon interesting if he can prove his health. With an ADP of RB74 and 285 overall, McKinnon is currently nothing more than a late-round lottery ticket. Nonetheless, he could step into a valuable pass-catching role if Mostert were to have his trade wish granted.

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert had the quickest top speed in the NFL last season with a carry he touched 23.09 mph, according to Next Gen Stats. He also had the second-fastest top speed at 22.73 on a different carry last season.

Fantasy Spin: He's under contract for one more year with the Niners, and he's about to turn 29. Don't mistake him as a young, blooming back. He had trouble staying healthy last year, but he has proven to be a quality RB2 in fantasy when healthy. The caveat is "when healthy."

From TheHuddle

Dec 25 10:53pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Spin: With Mostert out of the picture, Jeff Wilson Jr. should be a viable flex option over the final two weeks of the regular season.

From TheHuddle

Dec 24 8:53pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 24, and has been ruled out for Week 16.

Fantasy Spin: Jeff Wilson Jr. should receive most of the work at running back with Mostert sidelined and can be a flex option in most fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 24 5:13pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle), QB Nick Mullens (elbow), WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring), CB Richard Sherman (calf) and DB Jimmie Ward (concussion) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals. DE Dion Jordan (knee) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 24, and is listed as doubtful. OL Hroniss Grasu (knee) and DT Javon Kinlaw (knee) were limited in practice Thursday and are listed as questionable. DB Tarvarius Moore (knee) was upgraded to a full practice, while CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring) also practiced in full after being added to the injury report Thursday; both players are also listed as questionable. WR Richie James (ankle) and CB Jason Verrett (illness) were upgraded to a full practice Thursday and no longer appear on the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Dec 23 7:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Spin: Mostert's highly unlikely to play in Week 16. RB Jeff Wilson Jr. is likely to be the lead back in a muddy backfield situation.

From TheHuddle

Dec 22 6:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) didn't participate in practice Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Fantasy Spin: Mostert is a candidate to be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and fantasy managers shouldn't be planning on having him in lineups Saturday.

From TheHuddle

Dec 22 2:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) reportedly suffered another high-ankle sprain to the same ankle he injured earlier this season, according to a source. Mostert is not expected to play again in 2020.

Fantasy Spin: This frees up Jeff Wilson to become the lead back for the 49ers over the final two games, although he appeared to tweak something in his leg in Week 15 on the only target he saw late in the game. If healthy, Wilson will be a high-upside RB2 option against the Arizona Cardinals in the fantasy finals who may cede a few touches to Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon on occasion.

From TheHuddle

Dec 22 2:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert's (ankle) season is likely over after he suffered another high-ankle sprain in the Week 15 loss to the Cowboys, according to a source. Mostert ran the ball 14 times for 68 yards against Dallas but was unable to find the end zone. Jeff Wilson Jr. totaled 60 yards and a touchdown and will have considerably more fantasy upside with Mostert out of the picture over the final two regular season games. Mostert was on Injured Reserve earlier this year due to a high-ankle sprain, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect to have him the rest of the way. Wilson will be a strong RB2 choice against Arizona on Saturday, while Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon will fight for touches behind him. Add Wilson immediately if he still happens to be on the waiver wire in your league.

From RotoBaller

Dec 20 8:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. rushed 16 times for 60 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys, stepping up for RB Raheem Mostert, who left with an ankle injury after 14 totes for 68 yards.

Fantasy Spin: Wilson might be leaned upon more heavily for Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals on the road if Mostert isn't able to make it back into the lineup. As such he is a sneaky RB3, flex play or DFS option heading into the penultimate weekend of the regular season.

From TheHuddle

Dec 20 5:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert (ankle) re-injured the same ankle that's been ailing him the past few weeks in Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys. He didn't return to the game after the injury. Mostert carried the ball 14 times for 68 yards in the game and didn't see any targets in the passing game. Jeff Wilson Jr. received a sturdy workload alongside Mostert and his workload increased when Mostert was sidelined. Wilson carried the ball 16 times this week and also had four targets in the passing game. If Mostert can get in some full practices this week, he'll be a candidate to start as an RB2 in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals, but he might be tough to trust due to his inability to stay on the field this year.

From RotoBaller

Dec 20 4:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert (ankle) re-injured the ankle that has been hampering him as of late and is unlikely to return to Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. He had 14 carries for 68 yards before the injury. While he is out, Jeff Wilson Jr. will be the team's primary rusher with Tevin Coleman behind him. Mostert has only played a handful of complete games this year as it's been an injury-riddled season for the 49ers starting running back.

From RotoBaller

Dec 20 3:53pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the Week 15 game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation to see if Mostert is able to return. Jeff Wilson Jr. will be the main running back if Mostert misses additional time and could be a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 18 10:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 18, and is not on the injury report for Week 15.

Fantasy Spin: Mostert likely will continue to share playing time with Jeff Wilson Jr. but should see a solid amount of touches against the Dallas Cowboys. He can be considered a flex option in most leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 18 4:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers OL Hroniss Grasu (knee) and WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 15 versus the Dallas Cowboys. CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring), LB Fred Warner (shoulder, neck) and CB K'Waun Williams (ankle) were upgraded to a full practice Friday, Dec. 18, and are listed as questionable. OL Daniel Brunskill (shoulder), DL D.J. Jones (ankle) and RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) were also upgraded to a full practice Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Dec 17 10:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Spin: It appears like Mostert has a chance to play in the Week 15, but fantasy players will know more over the next few days. He can be a starting option in fantasy leagues if he plays, but players will need other options available in case he is ruled out.

From TheHuddle

Dec 17 6:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers OL Hroniss Grasu (knee) and WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 17. OL Daniel Brunskill (shoulder), DL D.J. Jones (ankle), CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle), LB Fred Warner (shoulder, neck) and CB K'Waun Williams (ankle) were limited.

From TheHuddle

Dec 17 9:10am ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert (ankle) has been disappointing over the past two weeks as the team has heavily worked Jeff Wilson Jr. into their game plan. Mostert saw 14 carries in Week 14 while Wilson had 11. Mostert is currently dealing with an ankle injury that has forced him to miss some practice time this week. He is currently questionable for Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys. If he's able to suit up, he's a must-start RB2 or flex option. The Cowboys have the league's worst run defense, allowing 162.7 rushing yards per game. Mostert is a safe bet for double-digit carries if he's active and that alone should give him the opportunity to make several big plays with touchdown upside against the horrendous Cowboys rush defense.

From RotoBaller

Dec 17 12:00am ET

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert (ankle) did not take part in practice on Wednesday. It's not a good start to the week for a player that has already been on Injured Reserve this season. Mostert will need to at least get in a limited practice on Thursday or Friday in order to have a realistic shot of playing in Week 15 against a porous Cowboys Defense. If the 28-year-old cannot play this Sunday, Jeff Wilson Jr. would be the biggest backfield beneficiary in San Francisco and would have RB2 upside against a Dallas D that has given up the sixth-most fantasy points per game to running backs. Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman would also see increased usage in change-of-pace roles, but they'd both be desperation flex plays in standard leagues.

From RotoBaller

Dec 16 7:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Spin: Mostert has an excellent matchup against the Dallas Cowboys awaiting him in Week 15 if he's able to play. Jeff Wilson would be the No. 1 option and most appealing fantasy asset if Mostert is unable to go in Week 15.

From TheHuddle

Dec 14 6:13pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) reportedly is undergoing further MRIs on his ankle, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

Fantasy Spin: Mostert just can't seem to get his ankle right this year. His last carry in Week 14 came with two minutes left and he didn't appear to be in any noticeable pain, so maybe this is precautionary. Regardless, it's a concern for now. Mostert shared the backfield with Jeff Wilson against Washington, so Wilson would presumably be a high-upside RB2 option in Week 15 against the sieve-like run defense of the Dallas Cowboys if Mostert cannot play.
