2019 RTSports Outlook

McCaffrey got a chance to be the lead back for the Panthers last season and excelled in that role, finishing first overall in fantasy running back scoring. He had a monster season, nearly topping 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving. McCaffrey had 1,965 total yards, 13 touchdowns and 107 receptions. McCaffrey had 11 games with 20-plus fantasy points. He was the most consistent fantasy back in the game. McCaffrey should hold a similar role this season. He is a matchup nightmare for the opposition. McCaffrey has great moves in space and is a very tough tackle in the open field. He does lack a little size to be an ideal three-down back, but that didn't seem to hold him back last year. McCaffrey has great hands and runs top routes for a running back, playing more like a seasoned receiver when getting a chance to catch the ball.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: McCaffrey has been a top-10 fantasy back each of his first two seasons in the NFL. He is the real deal and solid top-three fantasy back. All his consistent work in the passing game sets him apart from other fantasy backs. You can really make a case to take him first overall. Last season wasn't a fluke for McCaffrey. He can have similar success this year, getting around 2,000 total yards, double-digit scores and 100 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

In 2018, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey became just the third player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards, while also catching 100 passes. He finished Top 6 in rushing with 1,098 yards, and Top 8 in receptions with 107, which was also an NFL single-season record. At just 22 years old, and entering his third year in the league, the Stanford product has developed into one of the leagues elite playmakers. His quarterback Cam Newton is working his way back from his second shoulder surgery, so McCaffrey will again have to be the main focal point of the offense, and he could very well push for the rare 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in 2019. Carolina has shown commitment to using CMC in the red zone (11 of his 13 touchdowns, in 2018, came from inside the 20 yard line), so he wont be cheated of opportunities. While the Panthers drafted running back Jordan Scarlett from Florida and re-signed Cameron Artis-Payne, neither of them will take time away from McCaffrey, as long as he is healthy. At an ADP of 4, McCaffrey deserves discussion as the number one overall pick, especially in PPR leagues. However, he finished top three in all league formats last season, and will once again be in a position to dominate the fantasy landscape.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey might see a little more help in the backfield, as head coach Ron Rivera searches for a secondary runner. '(McCaffrey) him touching the ball was no concern,' Rivera said. 'It was just the extra plays. So we have to look at that and find a way to take that load from him.' The team re-signed RBs Cameron Artis-Payne and Elijah Hood, they drafted RB Jordan Scarlett, signed Elijah Holyfield as an undrafted free agent and have RB Reggie Bonnafon in the mix as well.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey will remain a first-round fantasy selection who will be the bellcow in Charlotte, but a little more rest, particularly late in games with the outcome already decided would not be a bad thing for C-Mac's long-term health. Fantasy owners shouldn't be terribly concerned.

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey enters his third NFL season, and beat writer Max Henson says CMC looks bigger, faster and stronger. That's a bad sign for the rest of the NFL, considering McCaffrey posted 1,965 yards from scrimmage in 2018. The 23-year-old rushed for 1,098 yards and seven scores while also adding 107 receptions, 867 yards and six more touchdowns. McCaffrey will go early in the first round, and a case could be made for No. 1 overall pick in formats which reward a point per reception (PPR).

Jun 13 3:10am ET

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey flirted with becoming just the third player in NFL history with at least 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season, but he fell just short with 1,098 rushing yards and 867 receiving yards. He is pleased with the stats, but hopes it translates into more wins. "You have a lot of individual goals, I think everybody does. But you can have a great (statistical) day and, if you don't win, it doesn't matter," McCaffrey said. He enters 2019 as the undisputed No. 1 tailback, and he should be a first-round pick in most fantasy leagues, if not in the discussion for No. 1 overall pick in PPR formats.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey said his offseason training regiment will allow him to handle another heavy workload in 2019. 'I played in every game last year, felt great,' McCaffrey said. 'I can do it again.'

Fantasy Spin: The coaching staff has hinted at cutting back on McCaffrey's workload a, but even if he scales back a bit from last year, he's still a safe bet for RB1 production because of his heavy involvement in the passing game.

From TheHuddle

Apr 11 1:00pm ET

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey said he's not worried about the team reducing his workload in 2019 after he played 91.3 percent of the offensive snaps last year. He played 75 more snaps than any other running back in the league and led all running backs with an NFL single-season record of 107 catches for 867 yards. He set the team's single-season record for all-purpose yards with 1,965. McCaffrey thinks his intense offseason training will help him handle a large load again. Carolina may look to add another back in the draft to help take pressure off McCaffrey, but he remains one of the most diverse and explosive backs in the NFL. He'll surely be a first-round fantasy pick.

Feb 28 10:43pm ET

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey needs to have a lighter workload next season after playing more than 90 percent of the snaps in 2018, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey was an all-around weapon for Carolina in his second season, running for more than 1,000 yards on 5.0 yards per carry and catching 107 passes. He's a early first-round pick in any format.

From TheHuddle

Feb 3 4:20pm ET

The Los Angeles Rams would like to bring running back C.J. Anderson back for the 2019 season, according to sources. Anderson played in nine games with the Panthers to begin the year but didn't have much of a role behind Christian McCaffrey and was released. He rushed for 299 yards and two touchdowns in his two regular season games for LA with Todd Gurley injured late in the season and also went over 100 yards in the Divisional round win over the Cowboys, so he's been a huge late-season addition for the Rams during their Super Bowl push. If Anderson returns, he'd be nothing more than a fantasy handcuff for Gurley owners, however.
