New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) missed some offseason workouts because he recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, according to a source. He is expected to be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Spin: Michel may be eased into training camp but should be fine for the start of the regular season. He likely will receive most of the carries in the running game and can be a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Jun 6 5:40pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel hasn't been spotted at an offseason practice since May 20, and the reason is unclear. It is starting to get concerning, especially since Michel has a history of knee issues. The 24-year-old ran the ball 209 times for 931 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games in an impressive rookie season, but he might be more of a risk in 2019 due to injury and the Patriots crowded backfield that also includes James White, Rex Burkhead, rookie Damien Harris and Brandon Bolden. Hopefully we'll get more clarity on Michel's situation soon.

Jun 6 12:43pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (unknown) has missed all three days of the team's minicamp this week with no explanation from the team. One beat reporter believes the team is simply managing the workload for Michel, who has had a history of knee issues dating back through his time at Georgia.

Fantasy Spin: Michel missed three games last season with knee problems but enjoyed a standout run through the postseason with 345 yards and six TDs in three games. James White, Rex Burkhead and rookie Damien Harris also are in the mix, but Michel is still regarded as a low-end RB2.

Jun 3 4:53pm ET

New England Patriots RBs Sony Michel and Damien Harris are competing for lead-back duties with James White locked into his role and Rex Burkhead likely viewed as a jack-of-all-trades, change-of-pace runner, according to Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald.

Fantasy Spin: It doesn't come as a surprise Michel and Harris are the main candidates for the lead role, but Duffy appears to believe Harris will get a fair chance to win the job, although he admits both backs will get carries. Michel is the more talented back of the two, but Duffy points out he didn't do much in terms of explosive runs (four carries of 20-plus yards as a rookie) or in the passing game (seven catches), so there is potential - albeit slight - for Harris to find a niche if he shows well in camp.

May 30 9:23pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel is currently the only player listed as kick returner on the current depth chart.

May 24 12:53pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel didn't participate in the team's OTA workouts Thursday, May 23, and one team beat writer says it's possible that the team is limiting Michel's offseason workload.

Fantasy Spin: Michel matched his 13-game regular-season TD total (six) in three playoff games as he enjoyed a strong postseason. Despite the addition of third-round RB Damien Harris, Michel should be drafted as a solid RB2.

Feb 3 10:43pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed 18 times for 94 yards and a touchdown in a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, finishing the postseason with 336 rushing yards and six touchdowns in three games.

Fantasy Spin: Michel emerged as the lead back between the tackles for New England, and having a big role for a solid offense should keep him firmly in the RB2 mix in 2019.

Feb 3 1:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel is the first rookie and fourth running back overall to have back-to-back playoff games with at least 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The other three to do so -- Terrell Davis, John Riggins and Larry Csonka -- are in the Hall of Fame.

Fantasy Spin: Michel has totaled 54 touches, including 53 rushing attempts, in two playoff games so far and is the best bet among all players to have a big game on the ground in Super Bowl LIII. Still, he's facing his toughest test yet in a Rams defense that has allowed only 98 yards on 43 rushes during their two NFC playoff wins.

Jan 27 1:43pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel has received some advice for playing in his first Super Bowl from two-time champion and Super Bowl XXXII MVP Terrell Davis. 'Try not to make this game any different than the ones you played,' David relayed to Michel via TMZ Sports. 'A lot of times, what happens is players assume, 'It's a Super Bowl, so I gotta do something different. I gotta prepare more, I gotta do something that I'm not used to doing. And, that's when they get in trouble.'

Fantasy Spin: Michel, the rookie first-round pick, is doing just fine this postseason rushing for a combined 242 yards and five TDs on 53 carries in wins over the Chargers and Chiefs. Next up may be toughest test yet in a Rams defense that has yielded only 98 yards on 43 carries in wins over the Cowboys and Saints.

Jan 24 12:43pm ET

Since Week 11, the New England Patriots are averaging 5.4 yards per rush on 116 carries out of '21' personnel - easily better than the league average of 4.7 yards, according to Sharp Football Stats. RB Sony Michel has been the primary beneficiary, rushing for 242 yards and five touchdowns on 53 carries in two postseason games.

Fantasy Spin: The Patriots' Super Bowl LIII opponent, the Los Angeles Rams, allowed a league-high 5.1 yards per carry in the regular season and also allowed 5.1 yards per rush when opponents ran out of "21" personnel, so look for this to be one of the first areas for New England to try to attack on Feb. 3.

Jan 21 4:33pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel is the first rookie running ever to run for at least 100 yards and two touchdowns in a championship game.

Fantasy Spin: Michel has been on fire in his first postseason, amassing 242 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in his first two games. That's with Rex Burkhead and James White taking away snaps, too. Michel's value is weaker in PPR leagues, but he's a quality RB2 prospect going forward.

Jan 21 12:40am ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 29 times for 113 yards with two touchdowns in the Patriots 37-31 victory over the Chiefs to reach the Super Bowl. The rookie running back was fantastic from the jump and the Patriots leaned on him to move the chains. Michel punched in a 1-yard score to get New England on the board and then sprinted untouched for a 10-yard score in the fourth quarter. Michel is hot at the right time and will have tons of sleeper potential as a possible Super Bowl MVP heading into the Patriots matchup against the Rams on February 3.

Jan 20 10:53pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed 29 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 20.

Fantasy Spin: Michel has been a monster in the postseason, logging 53 carries for 242 yards and five scores in two games. He will try to add to those numbers in the Super Bowl in a couple of weeks.

Jan 20 10:30pm ET

Patriots' RB Sony Michel ran for 113 yards on 29 carries with two touchdowns in Sunday's win in Kansas City. It was Michel's 2nd consecutive 100+ yard rushing performance. He has averaged 121 yards rushing in those games.

Jan 20 12:23pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel has his sights on another big outing Sunday, Jan. 20, in the AFC Championship Game after rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6. The Chiefs ranked 27th in rushing yards allowed and 31st in yards per carry during the regular season. 'It's like taking a test,' Michel said Friday. 'If you walk into the class and you're prepared for it, you're going to ace it. If you walk in not prepared, now you're nervous and you feel like you're going to fail. It's all about what I did this week, and I'm ready for ... this Sunday.'

Fantasy Spin: Michel rolled up 129 yards and three TDs on 24 carries in last weekend's divisional-round win over the Los Angeles Chargers, but that was with the Patriots comfortably ahead most of the game. Much of the same can be said about the Week 6 meeting with the Chiefs. Facing K.C.'s improved defense and high-scoring offense on the road is a whole other challenge, and that script might lend itself more to a bigger fantasy day for fellow RB James White.

Jan 17 1:43pm ET

New England Patriots RBs Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead combined for 47 rushing attempts/targets and 254 yards from scrimmage in the divisional-round playoff win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The Kansas City Chiefs, the Patriots' opponent in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 20, surrendered the third-most total yards (2,709) to opposing running backs during the regular season.

Fantasy Spin: Among other things, the Patriots are notorious for relentlessly attacking an opponent's weakness, and with the New England pass-catching corps not in top shape (no Josh Gordon, a diminished TE Rob Gronkowski) look for plenty of work again for Michel, White & Co., on Sunday.

Jan 15 1:05pm ET

New England Patriots' RB Sony Michel scored an impressive 32.80 fantasy points in Sunday's playoff win against the Chargers. Michel ran for 129 yards and caught one pass for 9 yards with three touchdowns.

Jan 14 1:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 24 times for 129 yards with three touchdowns in the Patriots 41-28 win over the Chargers. Michel was fed early and often, posting all three of his scores in the first half as the Patriots blew the game open. He became only the second Patriot rookie running back in franchise history to score a touchdown in the postseason and the offense was humming with Michel in the center of the action. The Patriots feature a Hall of Fame quarterback but the offense is at its best when Michel is healthy and getting the lion's share of the carries. Despite the fantastic performance, Michel will be only the third ranked running back in DFS tournaments behind the Rams Todd Gurley and the Saints Alvin Kamara heading into championship weekend next week in the NFL.

Jan 13 5:33pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Round playoff game.

Fantasy Spin: Michel has rushed for at least 100 yards in two of the last three games and has four touchdowns during that span. He will continue to be the main option in the running game and should be a starting option in all leagues next week.

Jan 13 5:30pm ET

New England Patriots' RB Sony Michel ran for 129 yards on 24 carries with three touchdowns in Sunday's win against the Chargers.
