Garoppolo lasted three games as the starter for the 49ers before tearing his ACL. It was a shame because he seemed to be gaining confidence in the offense and making strides as a starter. He had multiple touchdowns without an interception each of his last two games. He finished the season completing 60 percent of his passes for 718 yards, having at least 200 passing yards all three games he played. He should be healthy for the start of this year. Garoppolo is the franchise quarterback for the 49ers. He is a talented young player. He has a very quick release and a good arm. He is accurate on underneath throws and improving on his deep throws. Garoppolo isn't the biggest quarterback, so durability is a slight concern, especially since he was injured his first season as a full-time starter. He has all the tools to be an elite quarterback in this league.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Garoppolo was a bust last year but he has the tools to be a legit fantasy starter, especially if the 49ers give him some more talent to work with offensively. He has a chance to be a fantasy difference maker at a pretty good price for fantasy teams, who should be able to get him as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Expect around 4,000 yards and 30 total touchdowns with 13 or so interceptions in the 49ers pass-first offense.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) said he feels good and is good to go for training camp in a few weeks. He does not expect to start camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list and plans to be full-go on Day 1. "The rehab process has gone really well. Knock on wood. We havent had any setbacks. OTAs went about as well as I could have hoped for and now for training camp hopefully well be full go with team drills and all that stuff," Garoppolo said. The signal-caller tore his ACL on Sept. 23 and missed the rest of the season. He's been good in limited chances in his career and has a lot of upside in an improving San Francisco offense. Fantasy owners will remain cautious, though, and he's best selected as a fine fantasy backup with intriguing upside.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) expects to participate in full workouts during right away, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) will spend time before training camp with renowned throwing coach Tom House. Garoppolo, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury after three games in 2018 will work on improving his timing and rhythm. Hell also be joined at Houses training facility by some 49ers receivers. Before the injury, Garoppolo was an ascending talent with a 97.3 career QB rating over 26 career games. His extended absence has likely muted his fantasy appeal. Hes RotoBallers 18th-ranked quarterback heading into 2019 drafts.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) continues to participate in individual and seven-on-seven drills and appears as though he will be ready for the start of training camp, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) remains on track to be ready for training camp and continues to take part in individual and 7-on-7 drills in offseason practices. There are still high expectations on Garoppolo, who has never played in more than six games in any of his five NFL seasons to this point. He started just three games in 2018 before tearing his ACL and being lost for the season. When healthy, though, Garoppolo has shown that he can put up big numbers with a head coach that has built impressive offenses in the past. Garoppolo doesn't have any truly elite wideouts at his disposal in San Fran, though, and he'll mostly be a rising QB2 with upside for fantasy owners.
San Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley signed a two-year contract extension on Thursday through the 2021 season. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. The first-round pick in 2007 has started all 174 regular season games he's played in in his 12-year career. He was an All-Pro in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and has been selected to six Pro Bowls. Despite his age (34 years old), Staley is one of the best left tackles in the game and will be charged with protecting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo the next couple of seasons.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) took part in individual 7-on-7 drills on Tuesday in organized team activities but didn't take part in team drills. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Garoppolo won't be cleared for full team workouts until training camp because the team doesn't want to risk having defenders around the QB's legs. Garoppolo has impressed the coaches and teammates with how well he's moving while wearing a titanium knee brace. The QB tore his ACL on Sept. 23 and missed the final 13 games of last season. He hasn't dealt with swelling in "a long time." Garoppolo has been pleased with his ability to push the ball down the field and is also making strides in the weight room. He'll have QB1 upside if he's fully healthy in 2019, but fantasy owners should probably play it safe and take him as a QB2 with upside.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) won't be fully cleared for full-team drills until training camp, in part, because the team doesn't want to risk having defenders around his legs. Garoppolo has done work in 7-on-7 drills.
Fantasy Spin: Jimmy G will be a midrange option at the position in fantasy with maybe a little upside.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) has resumed throwing and doing dropbacks as he recovers from a torn ACL early last season, and he's hoping to take part in seven-on-seven drills when organized team activities start next month. The ultimate goal is being fully cleared for training camp in late July. It's almost certain that Garoppolo will wear a brace on his knee this year, and he doesn't think it'll impact his mobility. The 27-year-old looks to have the tools to be a solid QB1, but he's also never played in more than six games in a season in his five years in the NFL, so fantasy owners need to be cognizant not to overspend on his talent.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) said he likely will wear a brace on his surgically repaired knee this upcoming season.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo is expected to be ready for training camp as long as he does not suffer any setbacks in his recovery. He has played well in the past and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some deeper leagues.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee), coming off an ACL tear, should be cleared for full participation at the start of training camp, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo first full season in San Fran only lasted three starts, but given Kyle Shanahan's system and the QB's promising 2017 finish, Garoppolo has definite QB1 potential and is worth a late mid-round draft gamble.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) is on schedule in his rehab from a torn ACL last season and should be fully cleared to participate at the start of training camp, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Garoppolo has been working out on the field and looks to be ready for the offseason program. He's expected to be limited to 7-on-7 drills during organized team activities to reduce the risk of re-injury, but he's on schedule to be on the field for 11-on-11 drills in training camp. Garoppolo has added a little bulk in the offseason in hopes that it'll make him more durable. The 27-year-old played in only three games in 2018 and has yet to play in more than six games in any season of his career. There is a lot of upside in this offense, but fantasy owners will want to draft him as a QB2 with room to grow if he stays healthy.
The San Francisco Giants gave the sense that they'd be interested in trading for New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. as the season ended, and that sense still persists halfway into February. They've had real interest in OBJ for almost a year, but the question is whether the Giants would actually consider trading him after signing him to a big extension last fall. San Fran holds the second and 36th overall picks of this year's draft. The Niners are looking to bolster their receiving corps after Marquise Goodwin failed to live up to expectations as the No. 1 wideout in 2018. The Steelers' Antonio Brown could be a target, too, but he comes with a lot of baggage and the 49ers might prefer Beckham. OBJ is younger and has just as much talent as Brown, and a move to the bay area with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and head coach Kyle Shanahan would make Beckham even more appealing as an elite WR1.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is working to recover from the ACL tear that cut his 2018 season short, and his progress has impressed head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'He looks good, I'm not allowed to be working with him right now, but I was in the office a couple of days ago, I was stalking him while watching him out my window,' Shanahan said Friday, Feb. 1, during an interview with San Francisco radio station KNBR. 'He actually surprised me, he was running around, throwing, doing some stuff out of the pocket. I even had to call our trainer and ask 'should he be moving that much?' and he said he should be. It's cool to see.'
Fantasy Spin: By all continuing indications, Garoppolo's rehab progress appears to be ahead of schedule, and he'll be a solid QB1 sleeper candidate in drafts this summer.
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) hopefully will be able to participate in organized team activities this offseason, according to general manager John Lynch. Lynch said Garoppolo has not had any setbacks during his rehab.
Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo probably will be limited this offseason but could be on the field for some workouts if things continue to go well in his recovery. He likely will be ready for the start of the 2019 season and could be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.
