Los Angeles Chargers QB Cardale Jones was released Saturday, Aug. 31.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Cardale Jones did everything he could to finish his sales pitch to the Chargers on Thursday night. Jones is clearly vying for the third spot on the roster as Philip Rivers and Tyrod Taylor appear to be locked in at No.1 and No. 2, and he looked like a solid choice there. Jones went 10-for-16 for 149 yards through the air, carried the ball five times on the ground, and ran one in for a touchdown. Jones also led four straight successful scoring drives to start the game, and the team only punted once in the half that he played. To further punctuate his start, his competition, Easton Stick, threw two picks and looked terrible in the second half.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Cardale Jones seems like he's clearly third in the pecking order for the quarterback job at this point, but that didn't stop him from racking up the biggest single gain in Saturday night's game against the Seahawks. Jones threw a bullet to Artavis Scott late in the second quarter, and after a nifty move to evade the first tackler, Scott weaved his way for a 31-yard gain. Jones was also the only Chargers quarterback of the night to not tuck the ball and run with it, similar to how life is when Philip Rivers is under center. While Jones played the least of any of the three QBs who saw time in the game, he's still likely ahead of Easton Stick in the competition.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Cardale Jones took over from starter Tyrod Taylor in the team's second preseason game on Sunday, and he promptly led the offense on a 97-yard touchdown drive. The drive required a generous pass interference penalty to get out of the shadow of its own end zone, but Jones made a couple nice throws including a strike to Andre Patton for the 24-yard touchdown. Jones is fighting a bit of an uphill battle against the accurate but uninteresting Tyrod Taylor, but head coach Anthony Lynn has remained dedicated to the company line that the backup quarterback job will not be decided until the very end. If Jones can continue to shine while Taylor sputters, he could come out the victor.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Cardale Jones got the call to replace Tyrod Taylor after two series, but he looked considerably worse than his competition. Jones took a pair of sacks in his one series, including an ugly one where he had plenty of time to get rid of the ball but instead danced back and forth after an evasion until a third tackler finally reached him. Jones completed four of the six passes he attempted, but the difference between the way Taylor and he handled the evening was pretty pronounced. According to the coaches, there is still an even competition there, but it looks heavily favored towards Taylor at the moment.
