Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. caught all three of his targets for 20 yards and a touchdown in a 27-23 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 11. The touchdown was a 10-yarder in the third quarter and it was the first career touchdown for the rookie tight end out of Alabama. He's seeing 4.8 targets per game in his last five games and has been a decent desperation streaming option with Adam Thielen (hamstring) out. The Vikings have their bye next week and Thielen should be back for Week 13, but Smith Jr. has put himself in the TE2 conversation moving forward with his recent production.

Nov 11 4:00am ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. recorded five catches (six targets) for 34 yards during the win over the Cowboys in Week 10. Smith took advantage of the absence of Adam Thielen (hamstring) by tying Stefon Diggs with the second-most looks from quarterback Kirk Cousins on the night. Kyle Rudolph did have two rare touchdowns, but the 21-year-old has been somewhat more productive as of late, albeit not enough to make a considerable dent in most fantasy leagues. Nonetheless, if you are in a pinch, he can be a semi-sufficient option to scrounge up some production to get you through a bye.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. caught 5-of-6 targets for 60 yards in Week 7's 42-30 win over the Detroit Lions. Smith's six targets were his most this season as his volume spiked due to Adam Thielen (hamstring) leaving the game early. Thielen's status is up in the air for Week 8's Thursday night game against the Washington Redskins, but Smith Jr. shouldn't be in starting fantasy lineups regardless. However, there's some merit to adding him as a speculative stash in deep leagues at a desolate position.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. caught 3-of-3 targets for 60 yards in a dominating Week 3 win over the Oakland Raiders. Smith Jr. also had a big play called back due to a penalty in the contest, and it's already crystal clear that the athletic rookie is a far superior receiver to starter Kyle Rudolph. However, the Vikings are heavily emphasizing the running game this season and like to utilize Rudolph as a blocker, which puts a limit on Smith Jr.'s opportunities. Rudolph has played 100%, 100%, and 87% of offensive snaps this season, while Smith Jr. has played in just 49%, 42%, and 49% of snaps. Look for Smith Jr. to continue to become more integrated with the offense as the season rolls along, and don't be surprised if he becomes a streamable tight end down the road. He's not a recommended play in any formats against the Chicago Bears in Week 4.

Aug 26 3:10pm ET

Minnesota Vikings rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr., who was taken 50th overall in this year's draft, is extremely athletic and can create mismatches with linebackers or safeties in the middle of the field. He has obvious upside as a pass-catcher but has also shown improvement as a run-blocker in training camp. Smith is expected to have a sizeable role in his rookie season, and the expectation is that he'll develop into a rare complete tight end that will be a "big part" of Gary Kubiak's and Kevin Stefanski's offense, according to general manager Rick Spielman. Tight ends have accounted for an average of 23 percent of targets in Kubiak's offenses in his 21 seasons. However, only two rookie tight ends have had more than 600 yards receiving in the last 16 years, so temper expectations for Smith. He'll also be behind Kyle Rudolph, so consider him merely a dynasty asset for now.

Minnesota Vikings rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr. had an impressive night on Sunday, at least as far as preseason games go. Smith Jr. caught all five of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown, and he looks firmly entrenched as the Vikings top backup option at the tight end spot. It's never a good idea to look too deep into how teams are scheming during the preseason, but it does seem fair to assume that Smith Jr. will be getting some opportunities in the passing game this season. He's more of a dynasty stash this year with Kyle Rudolph still in front of him, but he's probably worth keeping an eye on for ultra-deep leagues. Smith Jr. is currently going undrafted at 301 overall (TE32).

Aug 7 8:50pm ET

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. recently told ESPN's Courtney Cronin that the Vikings are getting creative with his usage in the passing game, lining him up out wide and even in the backfield on occasion. The rookie second-rounder was listed as the second tight end on the team's first unofficial depth chart, and he offers an intriguing skill set that produced 16.1 yards per catch and seven touchdowns last year at Alabama. While it's encouraging to hear that Kevin Stefanski and Gary Kubiak are utilizing Smith Jr.'s athleticism, incumbent starter Kyle Rudolph stands in his way for fantasy relevance and it's difficult to make a case for Smith Jr. in non-dynasty formats this season. Things can always change, though, so keep an eye out in the preseason. He's currently basically free in drafts, clocking in at 272 overall (TE31).
