According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders parted ways with quarterback Brian Hoyer. The journeyman signal-caller has bounced around the league over the year. He's appeared in 79 regular season games, tossing for 10,899 yards and 53 touchdowns (37 picks) off 59.3% passing. He hasn't done much in the last few seasons, and he finished the 2023-24 campaign by throwing for just 231 yards, along with two picks. At any rate, there could be a market for Hoyer, who has established himself as a quality backup during his career. But even if the 38-year-old finds a new team, that doesn't mean he'll draw attention from managers in fantasy drafts heading into the new season.

Oct 22 4:50pm ET

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer completed 17 of 32 passes (53%) for 129 yards and two interceptions in the Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears. Hoyer, filling in for injured Jimmy Garoppolo, struggled to get the offense going at Soldier Field. The veteran quarterback had zero passing touchdowns and was sacked once. Hoyer has now lost 13 straight starts dating back to 2016. The Raiders got down big in this contest and eventually placed rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell in the game. O'Connell threw the only touchdown of the game for the Raiders in the fourth quarter. The Raiders take on the Detroit Lions in Week 8. The Lions have been middling against quarterbacks this season. Hoyer had a bad game, and it will be hard to trust him as a starter if Garoppolo misses more time. Fantasy managers should stay away from Hoyer regardless of the matchup.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Brian Hoyer went 17-for-32 for 129 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions against the Chicago Bears in Week 7.

From TheHuddle

Oct 21 10:53am ET

Las Vegas Raiders QB Brian Hoyer will start Week 7's game against the Chicago Bears, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Hoyer will receive the starting nod because QB Jimmy Garoppolo (back) was ruled out after being unable to practice during the week. He went 6-for-10 with 102 yards in a relief appearance versus the New England Patriots in Week 6 but is not a recommended starting option for fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Oct 20 5:10pm ET

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer has been named the starter ahead of Week 7 versus the Chicago Bears, per ESPN's Dianna Russini. This comes after the team ruled out Jimmy Garoppolo (back). It appears the Raiders are continuing to experiment with their options at the quarterback position. Rookie Aidan O'Connell drew the start when Garoppolo missed Week 4, but it was Hoyer who took over after Garoppolo departed versus New England last Sunday. The veteran journeyman will operate as the Raiders' quarterback again in Week 7, ranking as a mid-range QB3 for fantasy purposes. This development isn't great news for Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and other Vegas pass-catchers, though it helps that the Raiders have a soft matchup in the Bears.

Oct 15 9:33pm ET

Las Vegas Raiders QB Brian Hoyer completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 102 yards after replacing QB Jimmy Garoppolo (back) in a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Week 6.

From TheHuddle

Oct 15 8:30pm ET

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer entered the game in the second half of the Week 6 win against the New England Patriots. Hoyer completed six passes on 10 attempts for 102 yards after Raiders starter Jimmy Garoppolo exited the game with a back injury. The veteran quarterback did not make any big mistakes and could hold onto the win for the Raiders. Hoyer also completed a big pass to Tre Tucker for 48 yards. It remains to be seen how severe Garoppolo's back injury is, but Hoyer will be a candidate to start in Week 7 if Garoppolo is forced to miss time. When Garoppolo was ruled out with a concussion in Week 4, rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell stepped into the starting role. However, that does not mean Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels will call on him again in the same situation. The Raiders take on the Chicago Bears in Week 7. The Bears have been one of the easier matchups for quarterbacks this season despite holding Kirk Cousins to a pedestrian stat line in Week 6. It was a decent effort, but fantasy managers should turn to other options even if Hoyer is named the Raiders starting quarterback against the Bears.

From RotoBaller

Oct 7 7:00am ET

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer remained the backup quarterback in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers despite the absence of starter Jimmy Garoppolo. The Raiders opted to start their fourth-round rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell over the veteran Hoyer. Hoyer remains a valuable backup in this offense because he played in head coach Josh McDaniels' system with the New England Patriots. The Raiders rookie out of Purdue played relatively well but had three turnovers in the loss to the Chargers. It is unclear whether O'Connell or Hoyer will be the preferred spot starter for the Raiders in the future. Still, with Garoppolo out of concussion protocol, Hoyer will remain on the bench for the Raiders in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers.
