2019 RTSports Outlook

Flacco played nine games last year. He got hurt and lost his job to rookie Lamar Jackson while he was out injured. Flacco was his usual inconsistent self while playing last year. Flacco had four multiple touchdown games but also two games without a score and two multiple interception games. He has fewer than 20 touchdowns three of his last four seasons. Turnovers and inconsistent play continue to plague Flacco, having 212-passing touchdowns to 136 interceptions for his career. He was traded to the Broncos this offseason and will take over as their starting quarterback until rookie Drew Lock is ready to take over. Flacco has a strong arm and the ability to move around the pocket well. He lacks some accuracy at times and will make some poor decisions when rushed. Flacco is a top performer in the playoffs but can't always sustain that success in the regular season. Expect more of the same this season.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Flacco was never a top fantasy play, so don't expect a sudden change in production with his move to Denver. He should play in a similar offense. He might be worth a look in a pinch but should not be considered a starter by any means, especially with Lock lurking in the wings.

RotoBaller's Outlook

It may be a little harsh to call Joe Flacco old, as he will be entering this season at 34 years of age. In a time where players like Drew Brees and Tom Brady are playing into their 40s, 34 is not that old. Flacco is a different beast though, as he is only a few seasons removed from a torn ACL, and it was just last season when a hip injury cost him his job in Baltimore.Going from the East coast to the mountains is a lateral move for Flacco. The run game in Denver is going to be the main focus, with last years Cinderella Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman providing the bulk of the offense. Flacco should be able to stay in the pocket as a young core of receivers attempt to get open for him. If Emmanuel Sanders can come back healthy there will at least be a veteran presence on the field. But with his injury and his age of 32, it is hard to know how he will react to treatments and when he might be a full go. This leaves it to Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and my personal favorite Daesean Hamilton to fill in. There is a good chance no one is this group will sniff a top-12 fantasy finish, which hurts Flacco's ceiling. As a quarterback who loves his tight ends, Flacco does get a little boost with the arrival of Noah Fant, but he is still fighting an uphill battle for fantasy value. With the run game of Lindsay and Freeman looking to be the driving force of the offense, it will be hard for Flacco to be a fantasy star. Yes, Hamilton and Sutton along with Noah Fant could produce some value for him, but they are not enough to lend credence to drafting him. At best he is a QB2 in two-quarterback leagues. At worse, he is not even a streaming option in standard leagues. Flacco is currently not being drafted in most leagues and this is the right move. He should remain on waivers for the entire season except in the direst of situations. If that situation hits? Your season is probably over anyhow.

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco will be the only quarterback that works with the first-team offense during offseason workouts, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco likely needs to work with the starting offense this offseason since he is learning a new offense. He will have a solid group of receivers to work with in 2019 but has thrown less than 20 touchdowns in three of the last four seasons. He should only be a low-end No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco is expected to be the team's starter for a while, according to GM John Elway, who said he envisioned Flacco and QB Drew Lock as a 'Brett Favre-Aaron Rodgers situation' with the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Spin: For those that need a refresher, the Packers drafted Rodgers in 2005 but did not start him until 2008. That would put Lock on track for the starting nod for the 2022 campaign. Of course, that ignores just how poorly Flacco has played in recent years, and given how much Elway has struggled with QBs in a post-Manning world you have to wonder how long the leash would be if Flacco continues to trend downwards. At this point it's hard to see much value in Flacco or Lock in single-year leagues.

The Denver Broncos traded up with the Bengals and selected Missouri quarterback Drew Lock with the No. 42 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft on Friday. Lock has a huge arm and can make all the necessary throws in the NFL, but he is a little raw and will need to be coached up by the Broncos. Lock has plus speed but hasn't shown a lot of playmaking ability outside of the pocket. The good news for Denver is Lock won't be put on the spot right away, as he'll likely sit behind Joe Flacco for a year and learn. Lock will be a boom/bust dynasty pick in 2019 drafts.

The Denver Broncos selected Iowa tight end Noah Fant with the No. 20 overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft. Fant is the second tight end from Iowa taken in the first round, which is a first in NFL history. He is an exceptional all-around athlete and should immediately become the top pass-catching option at tight end for quarterback Joe Flacco in 2019. Flacco notably likes to use his tight ends as well, so Fant could come into some redraft value in his rookie season for the Broncos. Fant had 18 touchdowns for Iowa the last two seasons combined. He will help Denver's passing offense stretch the middle of the field.

The Denver Broncos were scheduled to meet with Missouri quarterback Drew Lock on Sunday and Monday. The Broncos traded for Joe Flacco in the offseason, but he's just a short-term solution. General manager John Elway is believed to be infatuated with Lock, so the Broncos could elect to take him if he's available at pick No. 10. Either way, Lock is one of the top quarterback prospects in this year's class and will surely be selected early in the first round.

Mar 15 2:20pm ET

The Denver Broncos re-signed tight end Jeff Heuerman to a two-year deal worth up to $9 million on Friday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The former third-round pick in 2015 played in just 11 games due to injury last year and caught a career-high 31 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in his third NFL season. Unless the Broncos add to the position in the draft or free agency, Heuerman will likely be the starter at the position. New quarterback Joe Flacco has targeted tight ends often in his career, so Heuerman could be a TE2 deep sleeper this year.

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco said Friday, March 15, that he's as healthy as he's ever been and is planning to be the team's quarterback solution for the foreseeable future. 'I hope they are dragging me out of this building a long time from now,' Flacco said.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco just turned 34, but with the myriad rules now favoring the offense and the passing game, quarterback lifespans certainly are longer than they used to be. If the Broncos can shore up their offensive line and add a pass-catching weapon or two -- namely a threat at tight end -- Flacco could be in line for a solid QB2 bounce-back fantasy season this fall.

From TheHuddle

Mar 14 3:13pm ET

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco is entering his prime, in the opinion of general manager John Elway. Denver's offensive system is similar to the system Flacco succeeded in with former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator and former Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak. Furthermore, head coach Vic Fangio knows Flacco and coached with the Ravens when Flacco was there.

Fantasy Spin: The addition of Flacco was a divisive move by the Broncos. Flacco is 34 years old, so it's hard to believe he's in his prime. If Denver can get a couple solid years out of him then it will be a win. Nonetheless, he is not and has never been a reliable starting fantasy quarterback.

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco has officially been traded from the Baltimore Ravens with the league's new year beginning Wednesday, March 13, at 4 p.m. EDT. Baltimore receives a 2019 fourth-round pick from Denver.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco is a fringe QB2 in deeper leagues and has a suspect cast of receiving options at his disposal. Look for safer options or players with far more upside to man your backup spot.

From TheHuddle

Feb 18 3:33pm ET

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco passed his physical, making it possible for the Broncos and Baltimore Ravens to make their traded official in March. The Broncos agreed to trade the better of their fourth-round picks for Flacco.

Fantasy Spin: The move came at the bewilderment of many, with Flacco's ceiling being about as high as Case Keenum's. Nonetheless, Flacco has proven to be a backup fantasy quarterback throughout his mediocre career.

From TheHuddle

Feb 17 3:03pm ET

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco also was coveted by the Washington Redskins, helping spark the Broncos to make the trade with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Fantasy Spin: Just as the QB he is replacing (Case Keenum) was in 2018, value Flacco as a mid-to-low-end QB2 next season in an offense that isn't expected to feature a high volume of passes.

From TheHuddle

Feb 16 12:13pm ET

The Denver Broncos will not restructure the contract of QB Joe Flacco after agreeing to acquire him from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week. He is slated to make $18.5 million in 2019, $20.25 million in 2020 and $24.25 million in 2021, although none of it is guaranteed.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco should be viewed as a QB2 in the majority of fantasy formats, with the potential to be a suitable bye-week replacement or starting option when he possesses a favorable matchup.

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco was traded by the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for the 11th pick in the fourth round (106 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.

From TheHuddle

Feb 13 11:50am ET

The Denver Broncos agreed in principle on a trade with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday to acquire quarterback Joe Flacco, according to league sources. The trade can't officially be processed until the new NFL league year begins on March 13. When the deal is officially completed it will likely be for a mid-round pick. Baltimore will save $10.5 million in salary cap space with the move, but they will also carry $16 million in dead money in 2019. New Broncos head coach Vic Fangio was with Flacco for one season in Baltimore, so they have a short history together. The 34-year-old was benched in favor of rookie Lamar Jackson in Baltimore this year and has looked extremely mediocre in recent seasons. He's won a Super Bowl MVP, though, and is arguably a slight upgrade on Case Keenum, who is now likely to be released. Denver will try to win with the running game and defense, so Flacco will remain a mediocre QB2 target as he returns to a starting role with a new team.

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is part of an agreement in principle to be traded to the Denver Broncos Wednesday, Feb. 13. The trade can't become official until March 13.

Fantasy Spin: The trade moves the needle more in actual football than in fantasy football. Flacco will remain a QB2 option to be used in good matchups. Case Keenum could still have a chance to compete, or he could be released altogether.

From TheHuddle

Jan 25 12:43pm ET

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is expected to part ways with the Ravens this offseason, and ideally the Ravens would like to find a trade partner to acquire the veteran quarterback. To that end, head coach John Harbaugh said Flacco's 'value is high' in a news conference Friday, Jan. 26, and added he can be 'one of the best' in the league if he's protected well and playing with suitable weapons on offense.

Fantasy Spin: In a QB-needy league, some team will likely pursue Flacco, but the statistical backing isn't on the veteran QB's side as Flacco has averaged a ho-hum 3,729 passing yards 19 TDs and 14 interceptions over his last two full seasons. He's more journeyman than elite at this stage entering his 12th season.
