2021 RTSports Outlook

Brees missed five games last season because a thumb injury suffered in Week 2. He played at a very high level once he returned to the lineup in Week 8. He had a great season, finishing with 28 total touchdowns to just four interceptions in 11 games. Brees had at least 25 fantasy points seven of 11 games. His numbers were as good as ever in the Saints high-powered offense. Brees is 41 years old but keeps himself in great shape and knows the offense inside and out. He should continue to do well for the Saints. Brees has 10 of 12 seasons with 33 or more touchdowns. He also has 5,000 yards five of 11 seasons. Brees continues to be extremely accurate and makes great decisions, rarely making mistakes. The Saints have a balanced offense, but Brees gets plenty of chances to air it out on a weekly basis.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Brees remains a top-10 fantasy quarterback option. He has shown few signs of slowing down and keeps producing big in this offense. His numbers might regress a little at this stage of his career, but he'll have plenty of big games along the way. Expect around 4,200 yards and 35 total scores from Brees. He is a dependable weekly option for fantasy teams.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New Orleans Saints kicker Will Lutz proved himself to be an every-week, plug-and-play option last season. His finish was no surprise, as he completed 88.9% of his attempts last season and is attached to the always potentDrew Breesoffense. In 2020, the Saints play 10 of their games indoors, which provides a very safe baseline for Lutz and should make for another successful campaign in 2020. Grabbing a kicker like Lutz while other teams are grabbing late fliers, may provide your starting lineup with an advantage every week. His 150 fantasy points last season would have placed him at running back 21, ahead of New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell in standard scoring.

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees missed four games in his final NFL season in 2020 due to broken ribs and a collapsed lung, but the future Hall of Famer said he only felt right in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions. "I only really felt good in one game, from the perspective of, I had all the tools in my toolbox," Brees said. Brees also mentioned a plantar fascia tear, damage to his shoulder and an abdominal issue that he dealt with most of the season. Despite his limitations, Brees played through his injuries and got it done for the team, but it was obvious that he couldn't make all the necessary throws at the end of his career. The 42-year-old was one of the best to play the game at his position, and the Saints will move forward with some combination of Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill in 2021.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees announced his retirement from professional football.

Fantasy Spin: The Saints may look to Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill as their new starting quarterback. Winston has posted solid passing numbers during his career but does struggle with interceptions. He would be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is featured in a recent video posted on Instragram by fitness trainer Todd Durkin in which Brees is pushing a weighted sled. At one point in the video, the phrase 'something must be brewing' is posted.

Fantasy Spin: Perhaps Brees has been inspired by seeing fellow 40-something QB Tom Brady winning another Super Bowl. Brees did recently renegotiated his contract to free up salary cap space, but that likely would've needed to be done in any case with the reduced 2021 cap, and the IQ video hints that Brees' retirement may not be a sure thing after all. Stay tuned ...

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has agreed to renegotiate his contract to open up around $24 million in cap space for 2021, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: The move seems to support the rumor that Brees will retire, meaning Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill could be under center for the Saints next season.

The New Orleans Saints renegotiated quarterback Drew Brees' contract to free up nearly $24 million in salary cap space for the 2021 season, according to a league source. Brees is dropping his salary to the minimum, which is another big hint that he's leaning toward retirement after his season ended with a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Head coach Sean Payton said he expects an official announcement from the 42-year-old future Hall of Famer in the next week or two. Brees missed time with broken ribs and a punctured lung in 2020 and also dealt with other nagging injuries throughout the season. It's been widely expected that he will hang up his cleats. New Orleans wants to re-sign Jameis Winston to potentially take over for Brees under center in 2021, but Taysom Hill is also in the fold.

Feb 3 3:33pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has not made an announcement about his playing future, but head coach Sean Payton said he believes Brees may make an announcement in the next seven to 10 days.

Fantasy Spin: Brees is expected to retire this offseason but has not made an official announcement. Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill would be starting options if Brees does retire, but neither player is probably a No. 1 fantasy quarterback at this point.

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis knows it will be a "daunting" offseason if the team has to replace quarterback Drew Brees, who is expected to retire, but Loomis made it clear that the club isn't going into rebuilding mode after winning the last four NFC South titles. The Saints could also be close to $100 million over the salary cap. There is no official word yet on whether Brees will retire, but the Saints plan on waiting for his decision before deciding on how they will approach the position in 2021 and beyond. Quarterback Jameis Winston, safety Marcus Williams, defensive end Trey Hendrickson, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and tight end Jared Cook are all scheduled to be free agents. But the Saints could save at least $13.5 million in cap space if Brees retires. They could also consider a blockbuster trade to free up cap space and add draft picks like they did in the past with Jimmy Graham and Brandin Cooks.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has not made an official announcement about his playing future, and general manager Mickey Loomis said the team will wait for Brees' decision before they decide what to do at quarterback.

Fantasy Spin: Brees is expected to retire this offseason but has not made an official announcement at this point. Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill likely will be starting options if Brees decides to retire but neither likely would be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees' (foot, shoulder) wife Brittany revealed that the 42-year-old signal-caller was playing through a torn rotator cuff and a torn fascia in his foot. "He's as courageous and as tough a player as I've ever been around," head coach Sean Payton said, via The New Orleans Times-Picayune. Brees' injuries likely played a part in his struggles pushing the ball downfield, and he threw three interceptions in what will be the final game of his storied career in the Divisional Round loss to the Buccaneers. He has yet to make his retirement official, but it's expected to come eventually, especially after playing through other injuries that we didn't know about. If this is the end, Brees will go down in NFL history as one of the greatest to ever play the position.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees dealt with more injuries than were previously known as, according to a post from his wife on Instagram, the veteran played with a torn rotator cuff and a torn fascia in his foot. Those are in addition to the 11 broken ribs and collapsed lung that were previously reported. Brees is expected to retire during the offseason, though he has not made that official, yet.

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees did not officially announce his retirement following the team's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Jan. 17, instead indicating he'd take 'an opportunity to think about the season' and make his decision later.

Fantasy Spin: While the smart money remains on Brees retiring, for now he hasn't closed the door on 2021.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees finished with 134 yards, one touchdown, and three picks in Sunday's divisional-round loss to Tampa. Brees had a tough time producing in this loss which ultimately ended the Saints' season. Earlier today, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported Sunday could very well be Brees' last game in the NFL and the QB would retire as one of the most accomplished players in league history.

From RotoBaller

Jan 17 7:30pm ET

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees plans to retire after the season ends. With the Saints are getting ready to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on Sunday night, Glazer tweeted, "Today will be Drew Brees' last game in the Superdome" earlier in the day. If the Saints lose to Tampa Bay, it will close the book on a Hall of Fame career for Brees. If the Saints win, they will head to Green Bay to take on the Packers for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. With Brees out of the picture in 2021, there's a chance that the Saints to turn to Taysom Hill as the team's starting quarterback but they could bring in a veteran as several quality signal-callers will be available this offseason, either through free-agency or via trade. Either way, it will be the end of an era for the Saints and the NFL as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in league history hangs them up.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees will retire at the end of the season.

Fantasy Spin: The Saints will be looking for a new starting quarterback for the first time in many years with Brees deciding to retire. Jameis Winston could be an option if the team decides to re-sign him. Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation because the starter will have fantasy value.

From TheHuddle

Jan 13 9:10pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is a low-end QB1 against the Buccaneers this week in the divisional round. Brees was decent against the Bears in the Wild Card game last week, tossing for 265 yards and two scores. Overall, the QB has been decent overall since returning from a rib and lung injury in Week 15 of the regular season. He has tossed for at least 200 yards in the past four contests dating back to the regular season. The Bucs are middle-tier against fantasy QBs, so Brees certainly has some fantasy value this week for this important matchup.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees went 28-for-39 for 265 yards and two touchdowns in the Wild Card win over the Bears on Sunday. Brees has looked sharp since returning from a rib and lung injury, and he threw for at least 200 yards in the last three games of the regular season after he returned from the injury. Next up is a matchup against the Bucs who Brees threw for four touchdowns against in their second matchup in November. Overall, Tampa is average against fantasy quarterbacks, so the QB is in the starting tier next week.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has not made an official statement about his playing future, but he is expected to retire once the season is over, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation to see if Brees announces his retirement in the next few weeks. There is not a clear favorite for the starting job if Brees leaves, but Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill could be options for the job. The Saints starting quarterback will have fantasy value but may not be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

From TheHuddle

Jan 10 11:50am ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to retire after the season, according to people close to him. Brees hasn't officially announced his decision, but it sounds as though this will be his last season. If he does decide to hang up his cleats, he has a contract with NBC waiting for him. If the 2020 season was indeed the 41-year-old's last, he'd finish his Hall of Fame career with 80,358 career passing yards on 10,551 attempts for 571 touchdowns and 243 interceptions in 287 regular season games with the Chargers and Saints. Brees has made the Pro Bowl 13 times in his 20 seasons, including a run of seven straight selections with the Saints from 2008 to 2014. He's led the NFL in passing yards seven times, had the highest completion percentage six times and has led the league in completions six different times. Brees will be a no-doubt first-ballot Hall of Famer and will be hoping his career doesn't come to an end in the wild-card game against the Bears on Sunday. The veteran signal-caller will be a midrange fantasy QB with running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Michael Thomas (ankle) back in the fold against Chicago.
