2024 RTSports Outlook

Gibson had a season to forget last year, losing out on the starting job to Brian Robinson. Gibson did not top 75-rushing yards in any game. He did have seven games with double-digit fantasy points because of his work in the passing game. He had at least three catches nine times. Gibson had a career-high 46 receptions. Gibson had a 1,000-yard rushing season the previous year as the featured back for the Commanders. He is likely stuck in a committee situation this year with Robinson returning and the coaching staff back. The good news is Gibson has Eric Beiniemy calling plays, which should benefit the entire offense. Gibson has elite speed and is a top receiver out of the backfield. He can get to the next level in a hurry and catches the ball well. Gibson also has proven to be a solid runner between the tackles. He can get it done inside and outside.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Gibson has a huge ceiling if starting and getting most of the work at running back, but that probably won't happen. The positive is he will get plenty of catches in this offense, so his weekly floor will be pretty high. He should be considered a solid flex play or low-end No. 2 fantasy back. He can get around 1,100 total yard, 50 receptions and seven scores.

Dynasty | The Patriots have agreed to terms with running back Antonio Gibson. Dynasty Analysis: Once thought of as a possible elite third down back, Gibson turned into more of a gadget player and receiver than running back during his time with the Commanders. While he had a 1,000 yard season back in 2021, his rushing touchdown total has decreased in each of the past four seasons. He'll get a new lease on life with the Patriots and could actually be undervalued since New England has long been known as the place where running backs go to die. With Bill Belichick out of the mix, that's no longer a given. Gibson's value has dropped to RB47 but this could breathe some much needed life into that.

Mar 11 3:10pm ET

Free agent running back Antonio Gibson and the New England Patriots have agreed to a contract on Monday. The official details of the agreement have yet to be released, but the former Washington Commander is heading to New England. Gibson rushed for 265 yards and a touchdown while catching 48 of 59 targets for 389 yards and two touchdowns over 16 games for the Commanders in 2023. With Ezekiel Elliott set to become a free agent, Gibson will join Rhamondre Stevenson and is set to be an integral part of New England's backfield. The 25-year-old will handle passing situations and third-down duties while spelling Stevenson on early-downs. With the move to New England, Gibson's fantasy value improves slightly, but he is a better fantasy option in PPR formats, making him a borderline RB4 heading into fantasy drafts in 2024.

Jan 8 2:40pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson rushed two times for eight yards and caught three of his four targets for 28 yards in the season-ending blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Gibson completely lost his starting job to Brian Robinson Jr. this year, finishing the campaign with just 265 rushing yards, 389 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns. The 25-year-old has fumbled 12 times in four years, which is likely one cause of his decreased playing time since his rookie season. Gibson is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason. Although his days as a fringe RB1 are likely over, he could have PPR value as a pass-catching back in the right offense next season.

Jan 5 5:00pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson is not a player who should be started in Week 18. With starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. returning from injury in Week 17, Gibson was limited to just six total touches. This week, the Commanders have a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Although Dallas' defense hasn't been the best against the run lately, the fourth-year pro doesn't see enough consistent work to warrant consideration as a starting option. Leave Gibson on the bench for the final week of the regular season.

Jan 1 2:40pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson and the offense were unable to do much against a stout San Francisco 49ers defense in a 27-10 Week 17 loss. Gibson saw four carries for 19 yards on the ground and caught two of his four targets for 17 yards through the air. This game saw the return of Brian Robinson Jr. for the first time since Week 13, but the 25-year-old Gibson's workload didn't really change all that much. Robinson had 13 touches to Gibson's six in his return, and that should be the pecking order again in the team's final game of the year in Week 18 against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys. At best, Gibson has been an RB3/flex option with minimal upside in deeper fantasy leagues.

Dec 29 2:50pm ET

With a tough matchup on the schedule, Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson isn't a player that should be started in Week 17. This week, Washington has the tall task of taking on the San Francisco 49ers. This year, the 49ers are allowing the seventh-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Not only is the matchup an issue for Gibson, but starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. is returning from injury as well after missing the past two games. So, with those factors stacked against him, the fourth-year back is not a player that you want to be relying on this week.

From RotoBaller

Dec 24 5:30pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson had nine carries for 30 yards and a touchdown along with one catch for two yards during Sunday's loss to the New York Jets. Despite posting an underwhelming yardage total, Gibson ended up salvaging his day with a game-tying touchdown during the fourth quarter. Although starter Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) missed his second straight game, the fourth-year running back still split touches with rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. If Robinson misses another game in Week 17, it's going to be hard to trust Gibson as anything more than a low-end flex.

Dec 22 2:00pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson has been a frustrating player this season. Despite having a perfect scenario set up for him as the lead back in Week 15, the Commanders, for whatever reason, limited his touches to just nine. Now in Week 16, with starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) being ruled out again, Gibson has another chance at a strong workload. This week, the Commanders are taking on a New York Jets team that has been a bit of a run-funnel this year. Although their pass defense is top-notch, they're allowing the ninth most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. With that in mind, the fourth-year pro could be in for a redemption game against an advantageous matchup. Consider Gibson a flex option with upside in Week 16.

Dec 17 9:10pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson had four carries for 15 yards along with five receptions for 20 yards during Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams. With fellow running back Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) missing for this game, Gibson was expected to assume a larger share of the backfield workload in Week 15. Unfortunately, rookie running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. ended up seeing most of the rushing work while the fourth-year pro played more of a role in the passing game. Even if Robinson ends up missing more time, it's going to be hard to trust Gibson as a quality start moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Dec 15 7:00pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson has a chance to be a strong play this week. In Week 15, the Commanders are taking on the Los Angeles Rams, and the fourth-year pro will be operating as lead back. Fellow running back Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) has been ruled out for this week, making Gibson a candidate for more rushing volume in addition to his usual receiving usage. He'll likely be splitting some carries with rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr., but this expanded workload could make him one of the better starting options this week. Consider Gibson a mid-range RB2 against the Rams in Week 15.

From RotoBaller

Dec 3 5:10pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson had 10 carries for 35 yards along with four receptions for 37 yards during Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins. It was a rough game for the Commanders, and that came in the injury department as well with second-year back Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) exiting the game early. In his absence, Gibson took over the starting role while leading the team in total scrimmage yards with 72. Although the Commanders have a bye in Week 14, the fourth-year back could be a player to look out for on waivers as the extent of Robinson's injury is currently unknown.

From RotoBaller

Dec 1 5:40pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson could be a sneaky play in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. Considering the Dolphins have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, the Commanders could fall behind quickly. If that's the case, then Gibson may play a larger role than usual for most of the game. Washington's backfield has been run with a distinct pattern this season. When they're up, Brian Robinson Jr. sees plenty of work. When they're down, Gibson sees more work. The Commanders are likely walking into a negative game script, so the fourth-year running back should see more receiving usage due to heavy pass volume. With many teams on bye, Gibson is an interesting name to consider as a deep league flex.

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially active for Thursday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. He had been listed as questionable but will ultimately return after missing just one game. The 25-year-old had been effective in the passing attack over three games prior to his absence, logging 15 receptions for 112 yards through the air. He'll rank as a low-end RB3 in PPR leagues this week.

Nov 22 1:50pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially listed as questionable to play on Thanksgiving on Thursday against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys. Gibson is expected to be a game-time decision after he was inactive in the Week 11 loss to the New York Giants. With Gibson sidelined last Sunday, rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. handled a larger role and saw six carries for 43 yards while catching one pass for five yards. Meanwhile, starter Brian Robinson Jr. had 17 rushes for 73 yards and caught seven passes for 58 yards. B-Rob's overall upside will remain high if Gibson, the team's pass-catching back, misses a second straight game. Gibson is merely a low-upside flex option in deep PPR leagues if he returns to the field.

Nov 21 7:00pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice. The 25-year-old back also was a limited participant in Monday's walkthrough so this puts him on track to suit up for the Commanders' Thanksgiving Day tilt against the Cowboys. Gibson missed Week 11 due to his toe injury but it's an encouraging sign that he's already logged a pair of limited practices to begin this week. If he ends up playing in Week 12 against Dallas, he should resume his normal pass-catching role out of the backfield. However, he's nothing more than desperation FLEX play as he's scored more than 10 PPR points just twice all season with Brian Robinson Jr. operating as the main back in Washington.

Nov 20 8:00pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) was listed as limited on Monday after the team's walkthrough practice. Gibson was unable to play in the Week 11 loss to the New York Giants, but he appears to have a chance at returning on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday to face the division-rival Dallas Cowboys. With Gibson inactive on Sunday, rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. took on a bigger role in Washington's backfield, while starter Brian Robinson Jr. saw all the passing-game work he could handle. When healthy, the 25-year-old Gibson functions as the Commanders' primary pass-catching running back. That role hasn't yielded much to fantasy managers as a flex option in deep PPR leagues.

From RotoBaller

Nov 19 11:40am ET

As expected, Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) is inactive for the Week 11 contest against the New York Giants on Sunday. Gibson came into this one listed as doubtful, so all fantasy managers that were considering using him as a flex option in deep PPR leagues in an excellent matchup this weekend should have already moved him to their benches. The 25-year-old had one of his best games of the year in last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but unfortunately he won't be able to build on it this weekend. Rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. will now take on a larger workload in Washington's backfield against New York as the primary backup to Brian Robison Jr.

From RotoBaller

Nov 17 1:10pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) missed his third day of practice on Friday and is considered doubtful to face the New York Giants on Sunday in Week 11. Gibson had his best performance of the year in the Week 10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, posting 14.0 half-PPR points on the strength of five catches for 42 yards and his second receiving touchdown of the year. Unfortunately he won't be able to build on that this weekend and needs to be returned to benches. In his absence, rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. will get a boost in playing time as the primary backfield complement to Brian Robinson Jr. Gibson has merely been a low-upside RB3/flex option in deeper PPR formats this year.

From RotoBaller

Nov 16 10:30pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) missed his second straight day of practice on Thursday. Gibson's status for Sunday's game against the New York Giants is firmly in question now, and he'll likely need to get back to practice on Friday to even have a shot at suiting up in Week 11. The 25-year-old's production has been a bit disappointing with new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy now in town. He's been the clear No. 2 behind Brian Robinson Jr. but is the primary third-down back. When healthy, Gibson has some flex appeal in PPR leagues, but he may be out this weekend. If Gibson is inactive against New York, rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. would step into an expanded role behind Robinson.

From RotoBaller

Nov 15 10:20pm ET

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (toe) was not seen on the practice field on Wednesday. Gibson's status is now one to watching into this weekend's divisional battle against the New York Giants. He had only four carries for 13 yards in the Week 10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks but salvaged his fantasy day with five catches on six targets for 42 yards and his second receiving touchdown of the year. If the 25-year-old is out or limited this week, rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. would see his role grow behind Brian Robinson Jr. in Washington's backfield. In the shadow of Robinson this year, Gibson has really only been an RB3/flex option, at best, in PPR leagues.
