2024 RTSports Outlook

Schoonmaker played every game his rookie season but in a reserve role. He had just eight receptions for 65 yards, but did score two touchdowns. Schoonmaker is going to play a reserve role once again this year, playing behind Jake Ferguson, who has a breakout season last year. Schoonmaker is a solid blocking tight end but also can help as a receiver. He runs plus routes for a tight end and has good hands. He will struggle a little with the contested catch and lacks a little strength.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Schoonmaker has little potential as long as Ferguson is around. He will struggle to get much work. He might get 10 receptions for 100 yards.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Luke Schoonmaker (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out throughout organized team activities. Schoonmaker had shoulder surgery this offseason, but his hamstring injury is what is keeping him off the field this spring. He missed all of his 2023 rookie spring with a foot injury. The Cowboys took Schoonmaker in the second round of last year's draft out of Michigan, and he caught only eight of 15 targets for 65 yards and two touchdowns in 17 regular-season games in 2023 while working in a backup role behind Jake Ferguson. Schoonmaker has had trouble with injuries early in his NFL career, but as long as he's able to get back on the field for training camp this summer, he should have a chance to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 regular season. Barring an injury to Ferguson, Schoonmaker can be left to the waiver wire in most redraft fantasy leagues.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Luke Schoonmaker (shoulder) had shoulder surgery recently but is "all systems go" for training camp this summer, according to a person familiar with the situation. Schoonmaker played in all 17 regular-season games in his rookie season in 2023 after being taken in the second round out of Michigan, but he didn't do much behind Jake Ferguson, catching only eight of 15 targets for 65 yards and two touchdowns. However, his shoulder injury may have been partially to blame. The 25-year-old could have a bigger role in his sophomore campaign in Dallas, but as long as Ferguson stays healthy, it's hard to envision Schoonmaker being very attractive for fantasy managers on a weekly basis. As long as Ferguson is healthy, Schoonmaker will be a blocker over a receiver.
