2024 RTSports Outlook

Flacco played in five games last year and started four for the Jets. He had two 300-yard games to start his season and had a four-touchdown performance in Week 2. He parked early, though, and turnover issues landed him on the bench for most of the year. Flacco had three interceptions and four lost fumbles in five games. Flacco can still help in a backup role because of his impressive track record, but he is not an every-week starter at this stage of his career. Flacco is 38 years old and not the same quarterback from earlier in his career. Flacco has a strong arm and the ability to move around the pocket well. He lacks some accuracy at times and will make some poor decisions when rushed. Flacco has been a top performer in the playoffs but can't always sustain that success in the regular season.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Flacco's career is trending the wrong way. He might be worth a look if getting a chance to start but even then, the numbers the past few years don't suggest consistency in that role. He'll be a risk.

Indianapolis Colts QB Joe Flacco officially signed with the team Friday, March 22.

Dynasty | The Colts have signed veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. Dynasty Analysis: When the Browns signed free agent Jameis Winston, Flacco was left to look at "Plan B" and settled on this one-year deal with the Colts for $8.7 million. This is a solid signing for the Colts, who have to be a little concerned about the durability of Anthony Richardson. If Joe Flacco was to play next season, he'd join veterans like Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, and Philip Rivers as veterans taking their last shots at glory with Indianapolis. Flacco's dynasty value is near zero but he'd be a solid pickup should Richardson go down again.

Mar 13 7:50pm ET

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback and NFL Comeback Player of the Year winner Joe Flacco reached an agreement with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday on a one-year deal worth up to $8.7 million, including $4.5 million guaranteed, according to sources. Flacco came off his couch to unexpectedly lead the Browns to the postseason in 2023, ultimately finishing with 1,616 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in five starts during the regular season. The 39-year-old veteran will now head to Indy to replace Gardner Minshew as the primary backup for young signal-caller Anthony Richardson, who saw his rookie season come to an end early last year due to a shoulder injury. Given Richardson's propensity to run with the ball, another injury in 2024 could force Flacco back into the spotlight.

Free-agent QB Joe Flacco (Browns) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts Wednesday, March 13, worth as much as $8.7 million, according to sources. The deal includes $4.5 million in guaranteed money.

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco said he is he interested in re-signing with the Browns this offseason but also will look for a team that will give him the chance to play in 2024.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco likely will test free agency to see if he has a chance to compete for a starting job with a team this offseason, but it seems like there is a good chance he remains with the Browns if he must take a backup role. He played well as the starter for the Browns this past season but will not have fantasy value if he does not start for a team.

Mar 5 6:00pm ET

Quarterback Joe Flacco, who won the 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the Year with the Cleveland Browns, wants to return to the team, according to a league source. The two sides met regarding the possibility of a reunion at the NFL scouting combine last week. Flacco will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday, March 13, and can sign with any team at that time. If he stays in Cleveland, he'd undoubtedly be the backup to Deshaun Watson. After leading the Browns to the postseason in 2023, teams probably won't strictly be considering him as an emergency option in 2024, but it remains to be seen if he'd get a chance to compete for a starting gig outside of Cleveland. The 39-year-old defied all expectations last year with Cleveland, and although it was a cool story, it's unlikely to repeat itself again in 2024.

Mar 5 4:53pm ET

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year on March 13, but a return to Cleveland reportedly remains his first choice. To that end, his agent and the team met with each other at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine last week to discuss the possibility of him playing with the Browns for another season.

Feb 15 2:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent quarterback Joe Flacco made an improbable run late in the season to earn the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award while taking the team to the postseason, but he's almost definitely moving on this offseason, according to The Athletic's Zac Jackson. Deshaun Watson will be returning from his shoulder injury as the starter under center in 2024, and while last year was a disappointment in his second year in Cleveland, he did have some big moments as well. In five regular season games, Flacco threw for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Browns after many thought his career was essentially over. The performance should land him a backup role somewhere in 2024, but it's unlikely to be in Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco is unlikely to return to the Browns next season, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco was the QB5 in one fewer game over the last 5 weeks of the season. If he has the chance to start for someone as a bridge quarterback, he'll be sought after in two-QB leagues.

From TheHuddle

Feb 9 4:23pm ET

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco said he wants to play in the NFL next season.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco played very well after taking over as the Browns starting quarterback, but it is not known if he will be able to find a starting job next season. He could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in some leagues next season if he starts for a team.

Dynasty | Browns quarterback Joe Flacco was named the AP's Comeback Player of the Year. Dynasty Analysis: The award typically goes to someone coming back from an injury but Flacco won it after getting off his couch and leading the Browns to the playoffs after Deshaun Watson was hurt. Flacco was fantastic, throwing for 1,616 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in just five regular season games. Things bottomed out in the playoff loss against Houston but Flacco has likely found a home for next year and the Browns could have insurance should they throw in the towel on the Deshaun Watson experiment. Flacco shouldn't be on dynasty rosters at the moment but he'd be a quick add should he ever get a starting gig again.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Feb 9 1:00am ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco was named the 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the Year on Thursday. Flacco was a free agent for most of the season before the Browns signed him late in the year due to a season-ending injury to starter Deshaun Watson (shoulder). The 39-year-old eventually won the starting job and went 4-1 down the stretch to lead the team to the postseason. In those five starts, he threw for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions before the team ultimately lost in the wild-card round of the playoffs. The 2023 resurgence has given Flacco the passion to continue playing in 2024. It's uncertain if Cleveland will actually re-sign him, but Flacco's performance this past season should at least have the Browns considering him as insurance again for Watson.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco, who is a Comeback Player of the Year finalist, intends to play next season in the NFL. Flacco is an impending free agent and will most likely have to settle for a backup role. However, the 39-year-old proved that he can still lead an offense after taking over under center in Cleveland in Week 13 and leading the team to a playoff berth in the absence of Deshaun Watson (shoulder). The Browns came up short in the wild-card round against the Houston Texans, but Flacco surpassed expectations, throwing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in five starts to close out the year. It's possible the Browns re-sign Flacco to serve as insurance for Watson, but either way, Flacco isn't going to be on the fantasy radar to begin the 2024 season.

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco is a player the Browns would like to re-sign this offseason, according to general manager Andrew Berry.

From TheHuddle

Jan 22 2:50pm ET

During a Monday media availability, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said the team is open to bringing quarterback Joe Flacco back for the 2024 season. The 39-year-old signed with Cleveland's practice squad in late November, following Deshaun Watson's season-ending shoulder injury. Quarterbacks P.J. Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson struggled, so Flacco was brought in as veteran competition. Flacco started five regular-season games this year, winning four of them while throwing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He struggled in the AFC wild-card loss to the Houston Texans, throwing two pick-sixes. However, he showed he can still lead an offense. "We'd absolutely love to have Joe back, he's a good quarterback," Berry said. "I guess maybe a little bit similar to Jacoby Brissett last year. It depends, right? I want to bring all of our good players back, but there are constraints to that. Would have no problem having Joe back." It sounds like Flacco would be Watson's backup in 2024 if he's retained, but he'd be worth rostering in two-QB or superflex leagues, given Watson's recent slew of injury concerns.

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said he's been relieved of his duties. "On to the next one. Proud of my time there," Van Pelt said. The Browns also fired running backs coach Stump Mitchell and didn't renew the contract of tight ends coach T.C. McCartney. Browns spokesperson said earlier on Wednesday that Van Pelt "remains under contract and no final decisions yet." Van Pelt held the title of offensive coordinator since 2020 and was the quarterbacks coach for the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers before that. Despite starting five different quarterbacks this season, the Browns finished 11-6 during the regular season and made the playoffs with veteran Joe Flacco running the offense. It came to an abrupt end during the wild-card round, though, in a 45-14 loss to the Houston Texans.

From RotoBaller

Jan 14 7:10am ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco completed 34 of his 46 passes for 307 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while adding three carries for 13 yards in a 45-14 loss to the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday. Flacco's final stat line doesn't look too bad but both of his interceptions were momentum killers. The veteran quarterback threw pick-sixes on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter, turning a 24-14 deficit into a 38-14 deficit. Flacco turned in some magical moments in his late-season tenure as Cleveland's starting quarterback but it is safe to assume that Deshaun Watson will be back as the team's starter in the 2024 season. A pending free-agent, Flacco could remain in Cleveland as a backup or try to catch on as a bridge option somewhere else this offseason.

Cleveland Browns QB Joe Flacco completed 34-of-46 passes for 307 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in a 45-14 loss against the Houston Texans during Wild Card Weekend.

Browns' QB Joe Flacco passed for 307 yards on 34-of-46 with one touchdown in Saturday's game in Houston. He did throw two interceptions including a pick-6 in the loss.

Jan 11 8:40pm ET

The Houston Texans defense will face off against quarterback Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the playoffs. Houston's defense has been playing extremely well as of late, which included holding the Colts' offense to just 17 points last week. This unit has also totaled at least three sacks in six of the past nine games. However, in that matchup against the Browns' offense in Week 16, Houston's defense looked out of sorts. They allowed 36 points with just one sack and two interceptions. A better game should be in store for this defense this week, especially since Flacco has thrown an interception in every start this year.
