2020 RTSports Outlook

Hill took a big step forward in year two, being used in all sorts of ways to help spark the Saints offense. He did most of his damage as a runner, rushing 37 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns. He also had three receptions on seven targets. He was 3-of-7 for 64 yards with an interception throwing the ball. Hill got most of his work out of the wildcat formation, being used more as a runner than quarterback. Expect the Saints to continue to use him in similar ways. Hill is a top athlete and playmaker. He has great speed for the quarterback spot and is a load to bring down in the open field because of his size and strength. Hill isn't much of a thrower, lacking some accuracy and touch. He is improving in that area some, though, and might get a few more chances to air it out this year.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Hill is not worth using for fantasy teams because you aren't sure how much he will be used on a weekly basis. He will be too hit or miss. Plus, Hill won't produce enough as a fantasy quarterback to play over nearly any starter in the NFL.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said that the uniqueness of quarterback Taysom Hill's role requires the team to have a third quarterback active on game days, and that won't change in 2020 with Teddy Bridgewater now in Carolina. The Saints are likely to look for the best quarterback (rookie or a veteran) that is available to be the No. 3 behind Drew Brees and Hill. New Orleans thinks highly of Hill as the heir apparent to Brees, but he's attempted just 13 passes the last two seasons, including just six attempts despite Brees missing extended time in 2019 with a finger injury. The 29-year-old gadget player won't have any lasting fantasy significance in redraft leagues unless Brees gets injured again or retires.

Updating a previous report, restricted free-agent QB Taysom Hill (Saints) received a first-round tender from the New Orleans Saints on Monday, March 16.

From TheHuddle

Mar 6 11:00pm ET

The New Orleans Saints are planning to place a first-round tender on impending restricted free-agent quarterback Taysom Hill, according to a source. The Saints will have a chance to match an offer sheet that he could receive from another team. If he departs, they'd receive a first-round pick. It's looking increasingly likely that Hill will stay on board as the Saints QB of the future after Drew Brees retires, with Teddy Bridgewater likely hitting the open market and going elsewhere. Hill has mainly been used as a gadget player and receiver with New Orleans, though, so it remains to be seen if he'd be effective as the starting signal-caller. He's a dynasty league stash but won't have much redraft value unless Brees gets hurt.

New Orleans Saints restricted free-agent QB Taysom Hill is a player the Saints expect to sign to a new contract before the start of free agency.

New Orleans Saints restricted free-agent QB Taysom Hill will receive the first-round tender this offseason, according to a source.

From TheHuddle

Feb 18 2:40pm ET

The New Orleans Saints seem likely to give quarterback Taysom Hill, who will be a restricted free agent in March, at least a first- or second-round tender offer now that Drew Brees has announced he will return for at least one more season. Teddy Bridgewater is expected to have a big market in free agency and seems destined to leave town now that Brees is returning, so Hill would be in line as the heir apparent if Brees hangs up his cleats after the 2020 season. Hill attempted just six passes last year despite Brees missing time with injury, and it remains to be seen if they really believe he can be a franchise signal-caller in the long-term. He's a great Swiss Army knife for the Saints, but he probably won't have much fantasy appeal in redraft leagues next season unless Bridgewater leaves and Brees misses more games due to injury.

Feb 11 3:20pm ET

New Orleans Saints impending restricted free-agent quarterback Taysom Hill views himself as a franchise quarterback. Hill has also worked as a running back, wide receiver and tight end in the Saints offense. He hopes that he can remain in New Orleans, but he also suggested that he's willing to go elsewhere in free agency if the team doesn't want him back. "You have to find the situation to take care of your family. You know, I want to play quarterback in this league, and if New Orleans don't view me that way, well, then I have to leave. So that's really where we're at," Hill said. Head coach Sean Payton may view Hill as a future franchise signal-caller, so Teddy Bridgewater could be the odd man out if Drew Brees comes back for another season. Hill has been valuable to the Saints because of his versatility, but he's very raw as a passer and has very little experience in the NFL under center, so it could be a long shot that he goes elsewhere and becomes a fantasy relevant passer.

Impending free-agent QB Taysom Hill told 97.5 The Fanatic's Rob Maaddi during Super Bowl week that he views himself as a franchise quarterback and is open to leaving the New Orleans Saints if they don't share that view. However, he also emphasized he 'loves' playing with QB Drew Brees and hopes to continue doing so.

Jan 31 9:23pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said he would be willing to give more snaps to QB Taysom Hill if both players return in 2020. 'Call the plays that puts us in the best position to win,' Brees said. 'If that means Taysom Hill is taking 30 snaps a game, 25 snaps a game, so be it.'

Fantasy Spin: Hill had success as a Swiss Army knife for the Saints offense last year, but Brees still delivered QB1 production when healthy. If both players are back next season, Brees should remain a viable fantasy starter, but Hill would be an intriguing stash candidate, especially in dynasty leagues.

Jan 30 1:33pm ET

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Thursday, Jan. 30, that he doesn't expect QBs/pending free agents Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill will all be back with the Saints next season. To have all three of those guys back is probably very unlikely,' Payton said. 'You really appreciate the season you had when you had all three of them.'

Fantasy Spin: Brees likely holds the key, and if the 41-year-old veteran decides to give it another go in the Big Easy, expect Bridgewater to seek a starting gig elsewhere after filling in admirably during Brees' thumb-injury absence this past season. The versatile, Swiss Army Knife Hill is a true wild card who could get more a shot at regularly playing quarterback somewhere else.

From TheHuddle

Jan 5 4:53pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees went 26-for-33 for 208 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card playoff game. QB Taysom Hill completed a 50-yard pass, rushed for 50 yards on four carries and caught two passes for 25 yards and one touchdown during the game. RB Alvin Kamara rushed for 21 yards and one touchdown on seven carries and caught eight passes for 34 yards. RB Latavius Murray rushed for 21 yards on five carries. WR Michael Thomas caught seven passes for 70 yards on eight targets. TE Jared Cook caught five passes for 54 yards on five targets, while WR Ted Ginn Jr. caught one pass for 18 yards on two targets.

Dec 29 4:33pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees wrapped up the regular season with 19-of-30 passing for 253 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers. RB Latavius Murray led the team with 61 rushing yards on 17 attempts, while RB Alvin Kamara posted eight runs for 39 yards and two touchdowns while hauling in two grabs for 18 yards. WR Tre'Quan Smith led the way with five grabs for 56 yards and a score, and QB Taysom Hill had a 45-yard touchdown on his only grab while running for four yards. WR Michael Thomas was held to just 37 yards on four grabs across nine targets. TE Jared Cook also contributed two catches for 44 yards and a TD.

From TheHuddle

Dec 17 1:30am ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill caught both of his targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in a 34-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Hill's touchdown reception was his fifth of the year- and he also has a rushing touchdown this year. The 29-year-old helped Drew Brees make history, as he hauled in the 541st touchdown pass of Brees' career. Until fantasy football figures out a position for Hill, he won't have value.

From RotoBaller

Dec 17 1:03am ET

New Orleans Saints QB Taysom Hill posted two receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown while running twice for one yard in Week 15 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Spin: Hill is a Swiss Army Knife capable of doing a little bit of everything, but his fantasy appeal remains rather minimal. The Saints travel to meet the Titans in Week 16.

From TheHuddle

Nov 29 1:30pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill caught both of his targets for 14 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball two times for 33 yards and a touchdown. Hill also blocked a punt after the Falcons' opening drive, which ultimately led to his receiving score. The 29-year-old has a fluctuating role, which prevents him from putting together consistent numbers. Still, coach Sean Payton certainly likes to get Hill involved, considering how dynamic he is.

From RotoBaller

Nov 29 1:23am ET

New Orleans Saints QB Taysom Hill ran twice for 33 yards and a touchdown during the team's Week 13 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Hill also caught two passes for 12 yards and a score.

Fantasy Spin: In addition to his two TDs, Hill also blocked a punt, showing off his tremendous versatility and athleticism. In a low-usage gadget role, however, Hill is a complete shot in the dark from one week to the next.

From TheHuddle

Oct 27 9:40pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill showed off his versatility against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8. Hill didn't drop back to pass in the game but caught all three of his targets for 63 yards and a touchdown. The 29-year-old ran a beautiful wheel route down the sideline and caught a 36-yard pass from fellow QB Drew Brees. Brees also targeted him in the red-zone for his third touchdown grab of the year. His role is too unpredictable to rely upon in fantasy, especially with starter Drew Brees back in the saddle.

From RotoBaller

Oct 27 5:23pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Taysom Hill caught three passes for 63 yards and one touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8. He was targeted three times during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Hill does not have a big role in the passing game but does have three receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown this season. Fantasy players can avoid Hill in fantasy leagues since he does not have a consistent offensive role.
