Coming off a season in which injuries limited him to just nine games after playing just seven in 2017, Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen faces an interesting conundrum this offseason as both ESPN and Fox have approached him about leaving the NFL to do television work. The New York Post reports that Olsen is still leaning towards playing in 2019, though a higher monetary offer from one of the networks could convince him otherwise. Regardless, Olsen's playing career is nearing an end, and with multiple networks interested in his service, it's a safe bet to assume Olsen won't play in Carolina beyond the 2019 season, as the team would save around eight million dollars by moving on from Olsen after the upcoming season.

Feb 26 10:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen has received offers from ESPN and Fox to serve as an analyst, according to the New York Post's Andrew Marchand. Two sources have reportedly spoken to Olsen and believe he favors playing, however, 'unless the TV offers come close to the money and/or there is a clear path to even more opportunities.'

Feb 5 6:53pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) intends to keep playing despite dealing with a nagging foot issue that resulted in two surgeries last season. Olsen said he's rehabilitating his foot every day trying to get back to full health. The veteran tight end has two years remaining on his contract.

Fantasy Spin: The soon to be 34-year-old veteran has only played in 16 games over the last two years. We can't overlook his dedication and motivation, though. Given the shallow nature of the tight end position, Olsen will garner TE1 attention if he's full go heading into the new season.

Feb 5 6:30pm ET

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (foot), who has two years left on his contract, confirmed that he plans to play in 2019 despite missing half of his last 32 regular season games with foot issues. "My plan right now, Im in every day doing my foot rehab, trying to get this thing finally back to where I was used to," Olsen said on Tuesday at Bank of America Stadium. "It seems like its been a long time since it was. Yeah, thats what Im preparing for and that all starts with getting my foot right." Because of the sad state of the tight end position in fantasy, Olsen will be a TE1 if he plays this year, but he'll be a risk/reward low-end TE1 because of his age (34 in March) and recent injury history.

Dec 26 10:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) said he is expected to be sidelined for three to four months after undergoing a second surgery on his foot. He said he plans to play in 2019 and expects to play at a high level.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen probably will be able to participate in some offseason workouts and will be ready for training camp next season. He has dealt with foot injuries over the last several seasons but could still be a low-end No. 1 tight end if he is healthy.

Dec 21 7:00pm ET

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (foot) told head coach Ron Rivera that he has intentions of playing again in 2019. Olsen's last two seasons have ended prematurely due to foot injuries, but this year he required surgery. He will turn 34 next March and has played in 16 games the last two seasons. Quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) is also likely facing offseason surgery, so there will obviously be a lot of injury risk surrounding Olsen in 2019 fantasy drafts. Still, he could easily be on the TE1 map if he's healthy.

Dec 21 1:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot), currently on the season-ending Reserve/Injured list with a foot injury, spoke with head coach Ron Rivera on Friday, Dec. 21, and gave every indication that he plans to keep playing

Fantasy Spin: Olsen will still carry TE1 name value if he does return, but fantasy GM beware as he will be 34 by the time the 2019 season kicks off and has missed a total of 16 games over the last two seasons largely due to foot issues.

Dec 17 2:50pm ET

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (foot), who was put on Injured Reserve earlier this month, had surgery last week on his foot and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a source. The 33-year-old has played in just 16 games the last two years combined due to foot issues, and he could decide to retire this offseason instead of rehab and try to return in 2019. He posted only 27 receptions for 291 yards and four touchdowns this year in nine games. Rookie Ian Thomas will be the team's pass-catching tight end the rest of the way and is a streaming candidate for the tight end-needy. Thomas had a season-high nine catches on 11 targets for 77 yards on Dec. 9 against Cleveland.

Dec 17 2:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) underwent surgery on his foot in the last week and is expected to make a full recovery, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen has dealt with foot issues since the start of last season and was always a candidate to miss time after returning this season given the nature of his injury. Turning 34 in March, the three-time Pro Bowler is obviously nearing the end of his career and could retire with a job in broadcasting likely waiting for him. The Panthers will move forward this season - and possibly beyond - with rookie Ian Thomas.

Dec 5 8:23am ET

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen turns 34 in March, and there is real concern that a decline is underway. He'll be a midrange TE1 with questions next season.

Dec 4 3:33pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is expected to be placed on the Reserve/Injured list this week, according to a source. Olsen suffered a torn right plantar fascia in Week 13.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen will enter a much needed offseason during which he will recover from the foot issues that have plagued him in 2018. Olsen will be 34 years old next season and is on the decline considering his age and injury history.

Dec 4 3:30pm ET

The Carolina Panthers are expected to place tight end Greg Olsen (foot) on Injured Reserve this week, according to a league source. Olsen ruptured his plantar fascia in Week 13 and is likely to miss the rest of the season. The 33-year-old tight end has battled foot issues the last two years and has played in just 16 games as a result. It's fair to wonder if Olsen will return in 2019 for another season. For the rest of the season, rookie Ian Thomas should serve as the team's pass-catching tight end, although he'll be a low-end TE2.

Dec 3 2:03pm ET

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with a ruptured plantar fascia Monday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Spin: It's the second straight season the 33-year-old tight end will not finish the season due to a foot injury, and it's fair to wonder if this could be the last time we see him play. Olsen has worked with NFL Network on their coverage of the NFL Combine in recent years and would likely have a job as an analyst waiting for him if he wants it. Rookie Ian Thomas caught five passes for 46 yards - both season highs - in a Week 13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will finish the season out as Carolina's top receiving tight end.

Dec 2 6:00pm ET

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (foot) has indicated that his season is over after suffering another foot injury in the Week 13 loss to the Buccaneers. Olsen was on crutches after the game and the 33-year-old could've played his last snap in the NFL as a result. Foot injuries derailed his last two seasons, as he was able to play in just 15 total games over that span. Olsen caught 26 of 37 targets this year for 278 yards and four touchdowns but was never really able to get going. Rookie Ian Thomas should take over the main pass-catching duties with Olsen out again, but he's more of a weak TE2.

From RotoBaller

Dec 2 4:30pm ET

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (foot) re-injured his foot in the Week 13 loss to the Buccaneers early in the game and was ruled out. Olsen missed most of last season and several weeks earlier this year with a foot injury, so this doesn't look good. We'd expect Olsen to be out at least one game and possibly for the rest of the season, depending on the diagnosis. The veteran tight end had just one catch for 13 yards before departing and wasn't able to capitalize in an easy matchup against Tampa. If he misses time, rookie Ian Thomas should be the main pass-catching tight end, but he failed to make any noise when Olsen missed time earlier this year and would be a desperation TE2.

From RotoBaller

Dec 2 2:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) suffered a foot injury during the Week 13 game and will not return.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen has dealt with foot injuries over the last two years, so owners will need to look for an update on his status in the near future. Chris Manhertz and Ian Thomas would receive bigger roles if Olsen misses time but neither are options for fantasy owners.

Nov 30 5:53pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 30, and he is off the injury report ahead of the Week 13 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had season highs with six grabs, 76 yards and a touchdown in the first meeting with the Bucs on Nov. 4.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen has struggled over the past three games since that last Tampa meeting, going for eight grabs and just 60 yards with a touchdown. He and his fantasy owners hope he can get back on track against the league's 27th-ranked pass defense.

Nov 30 1:13pm ET

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess (back) was a full participant in practice Friday, Nov. 30, but is listed as questionable for Week 13 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. DE Julius Peppers (rest) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 30, but does not appear on the injury report. S Colin Jones (non-injury), TE Chris Manhertz (ankle), QB Cam Newton (shoulder), S Mike Adams (rest, wrist), CB Donte Jackson (quad), C Ryan Kalil (rest), TE Greg Olsen (foot), S Eric Reid (shoulder), WR Curtis Samuel (hamstring), DT Kawann Short (calf), WR Torrey Smith (knee) and PK Graham Gano (knee) fully participated in practice Friday and have also been removed from the injury report.

Nov 29 3:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Spin: Olsen has struggled over the last few weeks and has been limited to four catches and 20 yards during that span. He should find more success this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and can still be a No. 1 tight end.

Nov 28 3:10pm ET

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is a clear start this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Olsen will be disappointed with his two catches for 11 yards against the Seattle Seahawks and will have reminded quarterback Cam Newton that he hasn't missed a step recently. Before that matchup, Olsen had scored four touchdowns in his past five games. The Buccaneers currently give up an average of 10.3 points to the position, and with the tight end position being scarce of talent Olsen should be in your fantasy lineup if you have the option.
