New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was the starter for their Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. He rushed 10 times for 37 yards and one touchdown. His lone touchdown was at the goal line, but quarterback Cam Newton figures to get plenty of chances there as well. The Patriots are going to use a run-heavy offense, which is good news for Michel's value. However, he'll get a matchup against a tougher Seattle Seahawks Defense in Week 2. Fantasy owners should be able to trust Michel as a RB3 or maybe a low-end flex option.

Sep 14 1:30am ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was able to find the end zone during their Week 1 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He rushed 10 times for 37 yards and scored one touchdown. Michel appears to be the starting running back in this run-heavy New England offense. There should be enough value for Michel to remain owned in 12-team formats. However, it's going to depend on the opponent. He'll probably be a RB3 against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

Sep 13 5:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed for 37 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1.

Fantasy Spin: Michel received the most carries among the running backs and was able to reach the end zone. He probably will continue to be part of a committee at running back moving forward but could be at least a flex option because of his touchdown potential.

Sep 9 4:00pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (foot) has only been able to practice for two weeks following offseason surgery. The team is likely going to ease him back into action and have him on a snap count for Week 1 versus the Miami Dolphins. The good news for Michel is that Damien Harris (hand) landed on the injured reserve. Michel should see increased value once he's back to full speed. However, the Patriots will work James White and Rex Burkhead into the mix as well. Michel has a favorable matchup against the Dolphins, but the fact he's likely going to be limited makes him a risky fantasy option.

Sep 8 6:40pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (foot) will likely be eased back into the mix ahead of Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Michel has only practiced for the last two weeks after undergoing offseason foot surgery. While he is expected to suit up for Week 1, it seems apparent that the Patriots will limit his initial workload. This caps Michel's fantasy value in the early season and will get Rex Burkhead and James White more involved in the offense against the Dolphins. Rookie running back Damien Harris (finger) will also fight for touches when he returns from the injured list, but the backfield is unquestionably Michel's when he is back at full health. The Patriots are an RB committee to avoid in Week 1.

Sep 3 12:03am ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) 'got heavy' after surgery, according to running backs coach Ivan Fears, but Fears said Michel has his weight under control and has showed 'no signs of slowing down' during training camp.

Fantasy Spin: After struggling with efficiency and injuries last year, Michel is no longer a lock to start, let alone to dominate carries in the New England backfield. He will be a RB4 with upside.

From TheHuddle

Aug 27 7:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Damien Harris continued to receive the majority of first-team reps even with RB Sony Michel back at practice Thursday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Spin: Harris carried the ball just four times for 12 yards over two games in his rookie year. The Patriots may just be continuing to groom him for the Week 1 start while allowing Michel to get back up to speed with the second team until he's fully ready. Harris should be targeted as a high-end RB3 for now, though there's a high amount of risk his role quickly changes as there is with most Patriots running backs every year.

Aug 26 6:03pm ET

Updating a previous story, New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) passed his physical Wednesday, Aug. 26.

From TheHuddle

Aug 26 1:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (foot), who had foot surgery in the offseason, is officially off the Physically Unable to Perform list and was at practice on Wednesday. Michel now has plenty of time to get back into the swing of things at practice and be ready for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Dolphins. He was disappointing in his sophomore season in 2019, averaging only 3.7 yards per carry with seven touchdowns on 259 total touches. The former first-rounder should be New England's primary ball-carrier in 2020, but Damien Harris could steal touches if Michel continues to underwhelm. Michel's lack of efficiency has made him more of an RB4/flex.

From RotoBaller

Aug 26 10:43am ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) was at practice Wednesday, Aug. 26, for the first time in camp.

Fantasy Spin: New England's backfield is a curious one, and Michel could still wind up with a decent chunk of carries. He's a back-end running back in fantasy that could gain more value as the season goes along.

From TheHuddle

Aug 21 2:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) remains a possibility to play in Week 1, Patriots running backs coach Ivan Fears said Friday, Aug. 21. 'I think he'll be ready when he has a shot to get out there,' Fears said. 'Hopefully we have some time before the first game for him to be out there. If not, we'll take him when we get him.'

Fantasy Spin: Michel's PUP list stint and the signing of Lamar Miller has returned the Patriots' backfield into a state of fantasy uncertainty. Pass-catching back James White might be safest bet at the moment, but value Michel as a high-end RB4 for now.

From TheHuddle

Aug 10 10:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (foot) isn't a lock to be recovered by Week 1, putting a major question mark beside the back who most expected to lead this New England backfield in rushing attempts. The team signed veteran Lamar Miller as insurance on Monday, further complicating things and suggesting that Michel's injury issues will bleed over to the regular season. You almost have to be more wary of drafting Michel than you already were with this news, and you already should have been fairly low on him. He's not undraftable, but he's become a huge risk without a lot of upside.

From RotoBaller

Aug 10 8:13pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel's (foot) status for the start of the regular season is uncertain at this point.

Fantasy Spin: Michel's uncertain status is probably a ready the team is adding Lamar Miller. Michel likely will be the starting running back when healthy, but the team has used multiple running backs over the last several seasons. Fantasy players can consider Michel as at least a No. 3 running back when healthy.

From TheHuddle

Aug 2 5:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Sunday, Aug. 2, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Michel probably will miss some practice time during camp because of his injury but appears to be on track for the start of the regular season. He can be considered a No. 2 or No. 3 fantasy running back if he is healhy.

From TheHuddle

Jul 27 8:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel's (foot) status for the start of training camp is uncertain at this point, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Michel is recovering from offseason foot surgery but still has time before the start of the regular season. He will be the starting running back for the Patriots when healthy and can be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jul 12 12:33pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) is no longer wearing a walking boot on his surgically repaired foot.

Fantasy Spin: Michel will be ready for training camp and should receive most of the carries this season but will have to share snaps with several other backs. He should be considered at least a No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jun 12 12:10pm ET

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (foot) recently underwent surgery and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the beginning of training camp. It was revealed that the surgery was more maintenance-based to help relieve discomfort. Michel was the leading rusher for the Patriots over the last two seasons. He rushed for 912 yards on 247 attempts with seven touchdowns last year in New England. The Pats drafted Damien Harris in the third round during the 2020 NFL Draft. James White seems to always find a way to get himself involved in the offense. The Patriots have depth if Michel is not ready to play by the beginning of the season. His fantasy value could take a slight hit with the added talent in the backfield this offseason.

From RotoBaller

Jun 12 9:33am ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (foot) had surgery on his foot in May, according to sources. The surgery was a maintenance-based operation to help relieve discomfort that Michel had been experiencing. It's unknown whether he'll be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Spin: Michel slipped to 3.7 yards per carry last season, and he has dealt with multiple knee injuries. This will be a make-or-break year for him as he enters the fray as a low-end RB2 in fantasy.

From TheHuddle

Jun 9 9:13pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel averaged 1.6 yards after contact as a rusher in 2019 - tied for the second-worst mark among qualified rushers.

From TheHuddle

Jun 2 6:33pm ET

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel led all NFL running backs with a touch rate of 63 percent in 2019.

Fantasy Spin: Michel amassed 1,006 yards from scrimmage with seven combined touchdowns on his 259 touches as a sophomore. His usage should rise even higher while supporting Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer rather than Tom Brady in 2020. He should be drafted as a mid-tier RB2.
