New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will look to atone for totaling only 11 rushing yards in Week 3 when the Patriots take on the Jets for a second time this Monday night. Michel's arrow is slowly tilting upward, averaging 80 rushing yards a game with one touchdown over his last three games. He will face a Jets Defense that is allowing the 17th fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. The Jets don't give up a lot of yards on the ground but they have surrendered five rushing touchdowns to running backs since Week 2. With the Patriots wide receiving group a bit banged up right now, Michel should be in line for 15-20 touches in Week 7.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel carried the ball 22 times for 86 yards against the New York Giants in Week 6. Michel also had two receptions (on three targets) for 27 yards.
Fantasy Spin: Michel was bottled up for much of the night by a game Giants defense, but he broke a 26-yard run on one of the game's final snaps to top the century mark in total yardage. Unfortunately, Michel ceded the goal-line carry to Brandon Bolden, who scored from a yard out. While Michel hasn't been great this season, he'll be looking to extend a two-game streak of 100-plus total yards in Week 7 against the lowly Jets.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 22 times for 86 yards and added two receptions for 27 yards in the team's 35-14 win over the Giants. It was the type of game tailored for Michel, and the second-year back only posted a modest fantasy score. His 3.9 yards per carry certainly leaves something to be desired, but the Patriots offense is leaning more on the run-heavy side by the day. Michel splits backfield duties with James White but is slowly trending in the right direction moving forward.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will try and build off a strong Week 5 performance when the team takes on the Giants this Thursday. Michel has followed up a strong game with a dud thus far but certainly is coming off his best game of the season. He will go up against a Giants Defense that is allowing the 17th fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs. But the Vikings Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison just ripped up the Giants defense for 184 yards, making this an intriguing matchup for Michel. He will continue to share time with James White and Rex Burkhead but Michel is still the lead runner in the backfield. He will have RB2 appeal in Week 6.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 16 times for 91 yards and one touchdown in the Patriots 33-7 throttling of the Redskins in Week 5. Michel also added three catches for 32 yards in his best offensive game of the season. The second-year running back's season has been a bit of a roller coaster through the first month but now has three rushing touchdowns. Michel and Patriots will turn right around and face the Giants this Thursday to kick off Week 6.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed 16 times for a season-high 91 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the Washington Redskins and he added three grabs for 32 yards on his three targets.
Fantasy Spin: Michel has found the end zone three times in the past four games. The usage in the receiving game was new, as he hadn't had a catch on just one just one target in the first four outings. He remains a decent low-end RB2 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 against the New York Giants on Thursday night.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel should see plenty of touches in Week 5 against the Redskins. Michel has alternated a solid effort with a terrible one thus far this season but could post a quality line if the Patriots get up big early. Michel is the most talented back on the Patriots but veteran James White is still in the fold and the team expects Rex Burkhead back as well this week. Either way, the Patriots could opt to use a run-heavy game plan against a Redskins team that simply is one of the worst in the league.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed 17 times for 63 yards in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.
Fantasy Spin: Michel's yardage total was actually his second best of the season, but he was held out of the end zone for the first time in three games. He'll look to get back into the end zone in Week 5 at Washington. He remains a decent RB2 in most fantasy leagues.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 17 times for 63 scoreless yards in a win at Buffalo. Michel didn't put up the numbers fantasy owners expect, but it was a good sign to see the second-year pro carry get 17 carries while no one else on New England had more than three. This is now the third time in four games Michel has averaged less than four yards per carry and he is yet to make a catch this season. Michel should be owned in fantasy and has more value in non-PPR formats, but he is rapidly turning into a player who needs to score a touchdown to have a productive fantasy day.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel could be fed some extra touches in Week 4 on Sunday, Sept. 29, as the Patriots try to get the running game going, in the opinion of one team beat reporter.
Fantasy Spin: Efficiency wise, Michel has struggled, averaging only 2.4 yards per carry and has been targeted only once with a catch. He's somewhat bailed out his fantasy owners with a pair of TDs, but is a flex option at best right now until we see better production.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel is looking to bounce back heading into Week 4 after racking up only 11 yards on nine carries last week against the Jets. Michel now has two fantasy dud performances this season and has lost carries to teammate Rex Burkhead. Even with Burkhead possibly sidelined this week, Michel has lacked the kind of burst he flashed all of last season. He will go up against a Bills Defense that has been sliced up by some elite runners this season. Michel is not in that category right now and will be no higher than a RB3 option in Week 4.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed for 11 yards and one touchdown on nine carries against the New York Jets in Week 3.
Fantasy Spin: Michel was not able to find a lot of running room this week but has rushed for a touchdown in back-to-back games. He will continue to receive a majority of the carries and can be a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball nine times for only 11 yards with one touchdown in the team's 30-14 win over the Jets in Week 3. Fantasy owners certainly became excited when Michel scored on the Patriots first possession but mostly disappeared from the game plan after that. Michel remains the starter and more talented back but slowly is losing snaps to Rex Burkhead. Michel's limited ability in the passing game is costing him opportunities at this point. The second-year back will try and bounce back next week.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will try and build off of his 85-yard, one-touchdown performance last week when the team takes on the Jets this Sunday. After a disappointing game to start the season, the second-year running back bounced back nicely. Michel ran hard as the Patriots racked up a sizeable lead. The Patriots backfield consists of Rex Burkhead, James White and Damien Harris but Michel led the way last week with 21 carries. The Jets are down to their third-string quarterback and the Patriots could lean heavily on the running game in Week 3. Michel has RB2 value with a high ceiling this week.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball 21 times for 85 yards and one touchdown in the Patriots 43-0 win over the Dolphins in Week 2. After posting only 14 yards in Week 1, Michel was heavily involved in the offense and ran with conviction. The second-year running back saw plenty of red zone touches and converted on a 1-yard run for his first touchdown of the season. The Patriots backfield is crowded but Michel is the leader among that group.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will be looking to bounce back after totaling only 14 yards on 15 carries in the Patriots Week 1 win over the Steelers. Michel was out-shined in the game by a productive effort from Rex Burkhead but few doubt Michel is the most talented runner. The second-year running back will go up against a Dolphins Defense that allowed a combined 34.9 fantasy points to Ravens running backs in Week 1. If the Patriots jump out to an early lead, Michel could see plenty of touches in the second half. Michel is certainly in the RB2 conversation this week and has a chance at posting RB1 numbers.
New England Patriots right tackle Marcus Cannon's (shoulder) injury isn't considered to be season-ending or long-term in nature, according to a source. Cannon landed hard on his shoulder in the fourth quarter of the Week 1 game against the Steelers. He won't miss the season, but it seems likely that he'll be missing some games, at the very least. Cannon's absence on the offensive line will be a downgrade to running back Sony Michel, but not enough to outright bench him in a cake matchup with the lowly Dolphins in Week 2.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel carried the ball a team-high 15 times for only 14 yards in the team's 33-3 win over the Steelers in Week 1. The Patriots offense dominated but Michel remained bottled up the entire game. Even when the game was out of control, the second-year running back failed to pick up significant yardage. Michel has been slow to work his way back into the offense during training camp after recovering from offseason knee surgery. He clearly is the most talented runner in the backfield and brighter days should be ahead in an offense that looks extremely potent to begin the season.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel carried 15 times for 14 yards in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fantasy Spin: Poor line play is usually to blame when a runner fails to average two yards per carry in a game, and such was the case in this one. It seemed as though there was always a breakdown in the backfield whenever he got his chances. Owners should chalk it up as a bit of an aberration and feel good about getting 18 to 20 productive carries and RB1 production from Michel next week against the Miami Dolphins.
Patriots' RB Sony Michel averaged a dreadful 0.9 yards per carry on 15 attempts in Sunday's win against the Steelers.
