The Miami Dolphins have yet to decide on who their starting quarterback will be between veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen. Head coach Brian Flores said on Sunday that he's not leaning a certain way. Fitzpatrick has been viewed as the favorite to win the job, but Rosen's play in the preseason might have given the team second thoughts. Rosen has a better completion percentage (62.2 to Fitz's 53.1), more yards per attempt (7.8 to 5.2) and more touchdown drives led (three to one). Fitzpatrick, Rosen and Jake Rudock could all play in Thursday's preseason finale. Rosen has more upside and long-term appeal, but neither he nor Fitzpatrick will be appealing in fantasy, even as a QB2.
Miami Dolphins QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen have been competing for the starting job during the preseason, and head coach Brian Flores said he is still not ready to name a starter at the position. Flores indicated both quarterbacks may play in the final preseason game.
Fantasy Spin: Both Fitzpatrick and Rosen have had their moments during training camp, but neither player has been the clear favorite for the job. Fitzpatrick probably would be the more valuable fantasy option, but fantasy players should avoid both quarterbacks.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen completed 5 of 7 passes for 59 yards and ran four times for 23 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 22.
Fantasy Spin: Rosen led a 99-yard touchdown drive and continues to show improvement, and ESPN's Cameron Wolfe added that Rosen appears that he'll be "ready sooner than later." While Wolfe also noted that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the likely Week 1 starter, it would make no sense for the Dolphins not to take a long look at Rosen during what's set to be a rebuilding year. While neither player holds single-year value, Rosen still has long-term upside.
Competing with Ryan Fitzpatrick, former first-round pick Josh Rosen impressed during his time in the Dolphin's 22-7 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Miami's third preseason game. Rosen was 5-7 for 57 yards, also running the ball four times for 23 yards, and led the Dolphins on a 99-yard touchdown drive, which included a beautiful 39-yard pass reception to Isaiah Ford. Although it came against mostly Jacksonville backups, Rosen certainly impressed more than Fitzpatrick and it still remains to be seen who will end up winning the job.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen didn't do much to separate himself from Ryan Fitzpatrick in the preseason loss to the Bills on Friday night. In six offensive series, Rosen included two three-and-outs, a turnover on downs and two scoring drives that ended in field goals. He finished 10-for-18 for 102 yards. Head coach Brian Flores said he "played well, made some good decisions out there." Rosen never got into a rhythm because of bad pass protection, dropped passes and bad throws. He didn't look great, but he's been better than Fitzpatrick in two preseason games now. Miami could name their starting QB as soon as next week, and it's expected to be Rosen. However, he's nothing more than a weak QB2 if he gets the starting nod.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen completed 10 of his 18 passes for 102 yards in a 16-14 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 16. He was also sacked three times.
Fantasy Spin: Rosen didn't make any major mistakes, but he was unable to push the ball down the field in any fashion. He will likely have a chance to start at some point, but he is a low-end QB2, at best.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen is working with the first-team offense Wednesday, Aug. 14, and is receiving 'true starter burn' this week in practice, according to beat writer Cameron Wolfe.
Fantasy Spin: Rosen has some burn in dynasty leagues, but there are far better upside QB2 selections in traditional formats for now.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen completed 13 of his 20 passes for 191 yards and an interception and rushed once for six yards in a 34-27 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 8.
Fantasy Spin: Ryan Fitzpatrick is currently the frontrunner to open the year as the starter, and Rosen's performance in the preseason opener probably did little to change that. Rosen should still have his chance to show his stuff at some point this season, but it is hard to imagine him helping out fantasy owners.
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely play with the first-team offense Thursday, Aug. 8, in the first preseason game, according to head coach Brian Flores. QB Josh Rosen is slated for the second-team, but Flores said that could change.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen made some 'remarkable throws' during practice Saturday, Aug. 3, according to Adam H. Beasley of The Miami Herald, and Beasley believes Rosen 'just might be' the starting quarterback when practice resumes Monday, Aug. 5.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen has reportedly made some improvements as the teams training camp rolls on. I think hes made some improvement, really across the board head coach Brian Flores said, before adding Theres things that a lot of people dont see. Better footwork, mechanics in the pocket, decision-making. The sophomore quarterback will begin his second season in the league in a new home after an uneventful rookie campaign in Arizona, finishing his inaugural season with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on this situation, especially those in dynasty formats, but for now, it appears as if the team will turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick come Week 1, with Rosen getting his chance potentially later on down the road.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen struggled during the first day of training camp Thursday, July 25, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.
Fantasy Spin: Ryan Fitzpatrick could open the year as the starter, but you have to think Miami will want to see what they have in Rosen. Regardless of who ends up under center for Miami, they are unlikely to be more than a midrange QB2.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been better than Josh Rosen so far in offseason workouts. Fitzpatrick continues to take the first snaps with the first-team offense in team drills. Fitz was far from perfect in practice on Tuesday, but he didn't make any foolish throws that were intercepted, which couldn't be said for Rosen. Rosen has thrown a red-zone interception in three of four practices open to the media. The good news is Rosen appears to have somewhat improved his accuracy on throws to the sidelines. Training camp will be the final battle, one that Rosen could easily win and then start in Week 1. Neither of the options under center will be big fantasy guys, but Rosen presents more long-term upside.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been better than quarterback Josh Rosen at organized team activities this week, according to a player that didn't want to speak publicly. However, Rosen has played well and Fitzpatrick threw two interceptions at practice on Tuesday. Rosen is doing his best work in the middle of the field and had good red-zone numbers with Arizona in his rookie season, but he also has remained inconsistent in practices. Miami has an open competition at QB this summer, but Rosen should win the job and start in Week 1. A change of scenery should be good news for him, but he'll be nothing more than a low-end QB2 that needs to prove himself.
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been 'the best of the quarterbacks' in organized team activities so far, according to an unidentified player who spoke to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently. However, Josh Rosen has also reportedly 'played well.'
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen has a believer in Los Angeles assistant offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch, his offensive coordinator and interim head coach at UCLA. 'Knowing Josh, from working with him on a daily basis, I believe he will react and respond as he does in everything,' Fisch said in an interview published Thursday, May 9. 'He's very self-aware. He recognizes his skill set. He recognizes his ability in comparison to others. And I think in his mind he'll just go out there and show the Miami Dolphins they made the right decision. And do everything he can to perform at the highest level, recognizing he has all the skills in the world. And I don't think he'll be set back. I don't think he'll feel that he needs to prove someone wrong as much as he would like to prove someone right.'
Fantasy Spin: Rosen will battle veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting gig, but regardless of who emerges as the starter, they'll be a mid-level QB2 in fantasy at the very best.
Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said that quarterback Josh Rosen, who was acquired from the Cardinals last Friday, will have to earn the job as the starting signal-caller in 2019. The 10th pick in the 2018 draft will be battling with journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, but we expect Rosen to win the competition and serve as the starter in Week 1. While he won't have many more weapons on offense than he did in Arizona in his failed rookie year, Rosen has upside because he's young. However, he'll be a mediocre QB2 with upside if he's starting in Miami.
Miami Dolphins QB Josh Rosen said he believes he can be a franchise quarterback for the Dolphins.
Fantasy Spin: Rosen is expected to compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job during training camp. Fantasy players could consider the winner of the job to be a low-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback, and neither should be a starting option.
The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Josh Rosen and a fifth-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals on Friday in exchange for the No. 62 pick in the draft. The trade comes one day after Arizona took Kyler Murray first overall in the first round. Rosen, the No. 10 overall pick in 2018, threw for 2,278 yards with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 13 starts in his rookie year. Miami signed journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in free agency, but there's little doubt Rosen will start for them in 2019. The change of scenery should be good news for Rosen as he plays with a chip on his shoulder, but he won't be much more than a QB2 with upside in redraft leagues this year.
Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen was acquired by the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 62nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Dolphins also acquired a 2020 fifth-round draft choice in the trade.
Fantasy Spin: Rosen likely will compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job during training camp but should have a decent chance to win the job. He will have some decent receivers to work with but should only be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.
