Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will take on the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Week 3. Mahomes has passed for less than 300 yards and thrown fewer than 30 pass attempts in the team's first two games. Despite his lackluster output from a counting stats perspective, the Chiefs are undefeated to start the season. The logical expectation would be that Mahomes would continue this style of play and rely on the strengths of the run game and defense to grind out wins, but this may no longer be a viable strategy. With the Chiefs placing star running back Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve, the Kansas City offense may need to lean more pass-heavy to remain competitive. Mahomes will need to be on his game this week as they face the Falcons, who just had a comeback victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in a primetime matchup. The Falcons offense appeared to figure some things out on their game-winning drive and will look to build on that momentum in this matchup. The Chiefs defense has also been relatively lackluster compared to their high expectations, so this could be a high-scoring affair. Mahomes has been disappointing at the start of the season, but the injury to Pacheco could pave the way for a shift in offensive play-calling. Start Mahomes with confidence in their Week 3 contest at Atlanta.

Sep 16 5:00am ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 18 of 25 passes (72%) for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the 26-25 win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. Mahomes passed for less than 300 yards for the second straight game and had at least one interception. The Chiefs quarterback was picked off twice in this contest, and the team narrowly escaped with the victory through a game-winning field goal from Harrison Butker. It was a disappointing performance from Mahomes, who passed for under 200 yards for just the ninth time in his career. Despite having field-stretching playmakers, Kansas City could not find a rhythm on offense in this contest. Mahomes will look to improve his output next week on the road against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks in 2023, so Mahomes should have no issues dicing up the Atlanta secondary. Despite being a disappointing starter in fantasy, it will be difficult to bench an MVP-caliber quarterback like Mahomes. Mahomes will still land within the QB1 conversation until proven otherwise.

Sep 16 1:53am ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes finished 18-of-25 for 151 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Mahomes also rushed for 29 yards on four carries.

Fantasy Spin: The 151 yards are the fewest Mahomes has thrown for in any game he started and finished. The first two games are not what fantasy managers have become accustomed to with Mahomes, but the Baltimore Ravens (Week 1) have a good defense and the Bengals have typically played him tough under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. Week 3 does not figure to be an easy game either versus the Atlanta Falcons, but few quarterbacks can overcome a difficult matchup like Mahomes.

Sep 13 4:50pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 at Arrowhead Stadium this Sunday. Mahomes took home last week's victory against the Baltimore Ravens in the season opener. The Chiefs quarterback passed for 291 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the 27-20 win. Mahomes was incredibly efficient, completing 71% of his pass attempts against a stout Baltimore defense. Mahomes will look to continue his success against the Bengals, who allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game in 2023. The Bengals are also coming off a game where they lost to the New England Patriots, so Mahomes and the Chiefs should have no issues handling the Bengals in this contest. The Chiefs also have one of the highest implied team totals of the week at 27 points, so Mahomes should produce this week. Mahomes is a strong QB1 again this week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sep 6 4:20am ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 20 of 28 passes (71.4%) for 291 yards and a touchdown in the 27-20 win against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Mahomes threw his first touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter of this game. He connected with first-round rookie Xavier Worthy for a 35-yard catch and run for the score. In the second quarter, Mahomes became the Kansas City Chiefs' all-time leader in passing yards on a pass to Travis Kelce. The Chiefs quarterback also threw an interception towards the end of the second quarter on a pass intended for Rashee Rice. Mahomes did enough to edge the Ravens in this contest despite the pedestrian stats. Mahomes will look to continue the Chiefs' winning streak against the Cincinnati Bengals next week. The Bengals allowed the 12th-most points per game to opposing offenses last season and have a high-powered offense, so their Week 2 matchup should be full of scoring. Mahomes will again be a strong QB1 next week despite his mediocre output this week.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes went 20-for-28 for 291 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5. Mahomes also ran twice for three yards and caught his own deflected pass for a two-yard gain.

Sep 4 6:10pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will look to start the season strong in Week 1 on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Despite starting the year at Arrowhead Stadium, this matchup will not be a walk in the park for the reigning Super Bowl MVP. In 2023, the Baltimore Ravens defense allowed 16.5 points per game, the fewest points per game to opposing offenses. The Ravens defense lost some important pieces, notably Patrick Queen, but they should still be a formidable opponent this season. The Chiefs defense will also be a force this season, but the offenses should get their chances to shine in this contest as this game has the sixth-highest over/under of Week 1. Mahomes has a 5-1 record in Week 1 games with 20 TDs and a 124.5 passer rating, so look for him to start hot this season. The Chiefs quarterback is an easy fantasy start every week he is available.

Sep 2 4:40pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs rookie offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia has locked up the starting left tackle job and he will be tasked with protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. The No. 63 overall pick out of BYU has been a standout at training camp, and it's notable that he's starting in Week 1 considering Kansas City often brings rookies along slowly. "He had a good training camp," head coach Andy Reid "He had a good preseason, but this is going to be a learning experience for him here. This is a good defensive line, and he's going to -- I'm sure there will be some ups and downs as he goes like any young player has. He's prepared himself, and it's time to go play now." The Ravens led the NFL with 60 total sacks last season, so the 21-year-old will have his work cut out for him right away.

Aug 19 2:30pm ET

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sit their starters in the preseason finale this Thursday against the Chicago Bears. "I'll probably sit the starters, the way it looks right now," head coach Andy Reid said. It means that we won't see quarterback Patrick Mahomes and company again until the season kicks off on Thursday night in early September against the Baltimore Ravens. In the first two preseason contests, Mahomes went 11-for-18 for 120 yards passing. The 28-year-old two-time MVP is likely to be without receiver Marquise Brown (shoulder) in Week 1, meaning he'll likely lean more on tight end Travis Kelce and rookie first-round wideout Xavier Worthy. Mahomes remains an elite QB1 in fantasy, but without Brown and against a tough Ravens squad, he won't be the most popular DFS play to kick off the regular season.

Aug 17 9:20pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked sharp again in Saturday evening's preseason defeat to the visiting Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium, completing eight of his 14 passes for 93 yards in the loss. Perhaps Mahomes' most noteworthy play of the day on Saturday against Detroit came when he flipped a pretty eight-yard pass behind his back to top target Travis Kelce during the first quarter. This might have been it for the six-time Pro Bowler and two-time MVP as it pertains to exhibition action this summer, but KC's first-team offense may get one more chance to tune things up in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. Mahomes had a down 2023 regular season for the defending-champion Chiefs and is now likely to be without veteran wideout Marquise Brown (shoulder) for the start of 2024, but he remains a cinch top-tier QB1 in fantasy drafts as arguably football's most dominant player.

From RotoBaller

Aug 15 2:50pm ET

The Kansas City Chiefs' plan is to play their starters through the first half in Saturday's preseason game against the visiting Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium. It's par for the course for head coach Andy Reid, who prefers to get his stars and veteran players additional reps during the preseason on a yearly basis. Whether or not quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Rashee Rice, and running back Isiah Pacheco actually play the entire first half on Saturday against Detroit remains to be seen, but fantasy managers should be able to get a decent look at KC's first-team offense in this one. One of the top storylines will be which receiver, if any, steps in to pick up the bulk of wideout Marquise Brown's (shoulder) vacated snaps.

Aug 10 11:40pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked sharp in limited action in Saturday night's preseason defeat to the hosting Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium, completing three of his four passing for 27 yards in the loss. Mahomes made a cameo on Saturday against Jacksonville, leading a scoring drive in the first quarter before his evening came to an end. After posting a career-low 4.5% touchdown rate and a career-worst 14 interceptions across 16 appearances last season, the 28-year-old three-time Super Bowl MVP is a clear positive regression candidate for 2024. While Mahomes' supporting cast looks much improved from what the Chiefs fielded in Week 1 of last year, Marquise Brown (shoulder) went down with a shoulder injury in this one, while Rashee Rice remains at risk of getting suspended at some point this year. All in all, Mahomes is a surefire top-shelf QB1 pick in the early rounds of fantasy drafts this summer.

From RotoBaller

Aug 7 2:10pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said at Wednesday's practice that each quarterback will get a quarter of action against the hosting Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday at EverBank Stadium. That means Patrick Mahomes will appear in the first quarter, Carson Wentz will get the second quarter, and so on. Mahomes is unlikely to see more than a drive or two of play on Saturday, but Reid has been known for having his star and veteran players active in some capacity during exhibition games in the past. With an improved supporting cast around him following a career-low 4.5% touchdown rate and 7.0 yards per attempt over 16 starts for the Chiefs last year, Mahomes looks like a clear positive regression candidate among top-tier fantasy QB1 picks for 2024. Kansas City ran the second-most team pass plays per game (37.4) last season.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff absorbed a league-high 69 hits while throwing a pass in 2023, according to Pro Football Reference. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (65) was the only other quarterback to be hit more than 60 times.

Fantasy Spin: The 69 hits are 16 more than he absorbed in 2022. The Lions arguably upgraded what was already a very good line with the addition of Kevin Zeitler during the offseason, so the number of hits he takes in 2024 should decrease by a decent amount. Goff is generating some early league MVP buzz and has the weapons in place to enjoy his finest season to date if he can stay healthy. He isn't much of a run threat, but Detroit's offense might be so good that he could finish as a top-five fantasy quarterback anyway.

From TheHuddle

Jun 27 8:03pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had only 13% of his completed passes go at least 20 yards in the air last season, which was the lowest percentage of his career.

Fantasy Spin: Mahomes received help this offseason with the addition of Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy, so he should take more deep shots this upcoming season. He should still be a No. 1 quarterback in all leagues even if he does not significantly throw more deeper passes.

From TheHuddle

Jun 21 2:20pm ET

Entering training camp this summer, The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes that quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears to have a lot more viable passing options than he did in 2023. Last year, the Chiefs started the season with Kadarius Toney as their No. 1. But this year, Toney will likely be fourth or fifth on the wideout depth chart. Mahomes showed promising chemistry with new pass-catcher Marquise Brown in OTAs and minicamp, and rookie Xavier Worthy should give the team a strong deep passing attack. Rookie tight end Jared Wiley has shown strong receiving skills behind Travis Kelce. Even if Rashee Rice is suspended as expected, Mahomes should have plenty of receivers that he trusts enter the regular season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. As the Chiefs seek an unprecedented third straight championship, Mahomes is an easy top-four fantasy QB.

Jun 18 12:50pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs rookie offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia has shared first-team reps with Wanya Morris this offseason, but the first-year player out of BYU is trending toward being the Week 1 starter at left tackle. Suamataia was selected with the No. 63 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, so the fact that he's already taken first-team reps is promising. In 2023, Patrick Mahomes was the second-most-hurried quarterback (60) in the NFL, which contributed to the team lacking a downfield passing game for the first time in his career. The organization brought in Suamataia to potentially alleviate that issue, and gaining valuable reps from the start of the regular season could prepare him for the team's postseason run in search of becoming the first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

From RotoBaller

Jun 14 11:03am ET

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said the team will push the ball downfield more in 2024. 'This is probably the most comfortable I think I've felt of just being able to not let something affect me,'' Mahomes said. 'When you go up against [Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in practice], you're not going to be right 100% of the time, and there's been times where I've lost on blitzes and Spags gets me with the new pressure that he's working on, and I think it's just being able to get the ball out of my hand, get it to the checkdown or wherever that is and then live to play another play.''

Fantasy Spin: As outlandish as it sounds on the outside looking in, Mahomes was disappointment in fantasy ending up as the QB8. He should improve upon that, granted that his receivers are able to get open and hang on to the ball. However, the position has deepened, and it's not as top-heavy. Be careful overdrafting him, but he's a top-three consideration.

From TheHuddle

May 23 2:30pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said that head coach Andy Reid has pushed him "to push it down the field" during organized team activities this week in order to test his receivers and the team's secondary defense. Almost half of Mahomes' attempts on Wednesday featured the ball traveling more than 20 yards downfield. Only 17 of Mahomes' 60 pass attempts that traveled 20-plus yards down the field last year were completed. It's part of the reason KC signed speedy wideout Marquise Brown in the offseason -- to give the Chiefs more chances to make explosive plays down the field. Reid said that Mahomes and Brown are developing some nice chemistry this offseason. With Rashee Rice likely facing a suspension to open the 2024 season, Brown could make for a really nice target in fantasy drafts this fall if he continues to build chemistry with Mahomes.

May 14 2:50pm ET

The back-to-back Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs will begin their attempt for the first-ever three-peat in 2024 when they host the Baltimore Ravens in the league's annual prime-time season opener, which will be played on Thursday, Sept. 5. It will be a rematch of last year's AFC Championship, which the Chiefs won 17-10 before beating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs will then face the Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead in Week 2. The Week 1 matchup against Baltimore features two of the game's top QBs in Patrick Mahomes, the Super Bowl MVP the last two years, and Lamar Jackson, the reigning NFL MVP. Mahomes has gone 4-1 in the matchup against Jackson, including in the playoffs. KC has opened as a 2.5-point favorite and are 2-1 in the NFL kickoff game since it was introduced in 2002.
