Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn said on Monday that the team is open to selecting a quarterback with the No. 8 pick of this year's draft, even with Matthew Stafford on the roster. "We're in a position now with the eighth overall pick that the whole draft board is really wide open to us. We're not going to really eliminate any prospects," Quinn said. Even though Stafford had one of his worst seasons in 2018, the team is still standing by him as the starting quarterback. Detroit is probably unlikely to actually select a QB that early, but weirder things have happened before. They could also be a candidate to trade down and secure more draft picks later on.

The Detroit Lions hired former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell as their next offensive coordinator on Wednesday. The Lions ranked 23rd in rushing yards per game (103.8), 20th in passing yards (223.5) and 24th in points per game (19.38) in 2018. Bevell ran the offense for Seattle from 2011 to 2017 and was out of the league last year. The Seahawks averaged 131.9 yards rushing, 216 yards passing and 23.99 points per game during his time in Seattle. It looks as though the Detroit offense will remain a run-first squad under head coach Matt Patricia and Bevell, which is good news for Kerryon Johnson and bad news for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn made it clear that the team isn't interested in trading quarterback Matthew Stafford. Matthew Stafford is our quarterback; he will be our quarterback here, Quinn said Friday in his annual postseason press conference. Stafford signed a long-term contract extension before the 2017 season, but he had a poor season in 2018, throwing only 21 touchdowns, his fewest since 2012. He didn't reach 4,000 yards either and had just 6.8 yards per attempt. In the end, a late-season back injury, a run-first offense and a season-ending injury to Marvin Jones and the trade of Golden Tate did Stafford in. With better health and a new offensive coordinator that caters to Stafford's strengths, he could have a bounce-back year with Kenny Golladay and Jones as his top receivers. Running back Kerryon Johnson showed promise as well. Draft Stafford in 2019 as a high-end QB2 with potential QB1 upside.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford drew a vote of confidence Friday, Jan. 4, from general manager Bob Quinn, who said he believes the team can win a Super Bowl with Stafford. 'Matthew Stafford is our quarterback; he will be our quarterback here,' Quinn said Friday, Jan. 4, in his annual end-of-season news conference.

Fantasy Spin: With 3,777 yards and 21 TD passes, Stafford had his worst full season of his career and finished as fantasy's 20th-ranked QB. Perhaps a new offensive coordinator and more/healthier pass-catching weapons will help Stafford rebound next season, but he looks to be a QB2 draft prospect at best for now.

Jan 3 7:53pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford admitted he would 'love' to remain with the only team he's ever played for. 'I think there's something special about a guy getting a chance to play his entire career in one place,' Stafford said. 'Not many guys get to do that these days. I would love to be one of those guys.' It remains to be seen, however, if the Lions feel the same way.

Fantasy Spin: Though Stafford has enjoyed a very solid tenure in his 10 years in Detroit, it might be understandable if the club wants to move on after their former No. 1 overall draft pick endured a disappointing campaign that saw his numbers drop all across the board. In his defense, though, Stafford was very banged up as the season was winding down, so it's also reasonable to believe he can bounce back in 2019.

Jan 2 12:00am ET

The Detroit Lions and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter mutually agreed to part ways on Tuesday, according to a source. The Lions finished the year ranked 24th in yards per game (327.3), 20th in passing yards per game (223.5), 23rd in rushing yards per game (103.8) and 25th in points per game (20.3). Cooter wasn't helped by the trade of Golden Tate and injuries to Marvin Jones and rookie running back Kerryon Johnson. Quarterback Matthew Stafford had little to work with in a weak run-first offense down the stretch. Detroit desperately needs production at the tight end position to help Stafford out moving forward.

Dec 30 7:10pm ET

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford finished 20 of 32 for 266 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Green Bay Packers. This was one of Stafford's most complete games of the season, all missing his top target wide receiver Kenny Golladay. He instead targeted Brandon Powell and Andy Jones a combined 21 times. It was a "what could have been" campaign for Stafford and the Lions, as the team dealt with several key injuries on top of poor play. On the year, he passed for 3,511 yards with 19 touchdowns; marking the first time that he did not throw for over 4,000 yards in a full season since his rookie year in 2009. Stafford will return in 2019 as a likely QB2 in fantasy, hopefully having healthy weapons in Kerryon Johnson, Kenny Golladay, and Marvin Jones.

Dec 30 5:13pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 20-of-32 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers. It was his first multi-TD game since Nov. 11 in Chicago.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford started the season strong, but he finished terribly. He ended up with 3,777 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions through 16 trying games, leading to team to a disappointing 6-10 record. He has been a QB1 in most fantasy formats in the past, but he devolved into a QB2 for most of this season.

Dec 28 6:13pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 28, and is not on the injury report for Week 17.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford has struggled during the second half of the season and has only five touchdowns passes in the last eight games. He should be kept on the bench in all leagues this week.

Dec 28 4:43pm ET

Detroit Lions DT A'Shawn Robinson (knee), CB DeShawn Shead (knee) and TE Luke Willson (concussion) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers. CB Jamal Agnew (knee), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), DB Quandre Diggs (back), WR Kenny Golladay (chest), DT Damon Harrison (ankle) and CB Nevin Lawson (ankle) practiced in a limited fashion Friday, Dec. 28, and are listed as questionable. QB Matthew Stafford (back) was a full participant in practice Friday and no longer appears on the injury report.

Dec 27 5:43pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford has struggled over the last several weeks with under 200 passing yards in two of the last three games. He had success against the Green Bay Packers in their first meeting, but owners should be able to find better options for their starting lineups.

Dec 26 4:43pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) put in a full practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford is finally playing the last game of arguably the most forgettable season of his career. That being said, he's an underrated daily fantasy play against a subpar Green Bay Packers pass defense.

Dec 23 7:40pm ET

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford finished 18 of 32 for 116 yards and no touchdowns in Sunday's 27-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Stafford was eventually replaced by backup Matt Cassel in the fourth quarter. His play as of late is indicative of how the Lions have played as a team and this loss added insult to injury. Detroit ends the regular season next week on the road at Green Bay, where Stafford will be tough to trust in any format.

From RotoBaller

Dec 23 6:43pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 18-of-32 passes for 116 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings before getting pulled in favor of QB Matt Cassel.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford has been a dumpster fire from a fantasy perspective, devolving into a low-end QB2 in most fantasy leagues. It wouldn't be surprising to see Stafford inactive in Week 17, giving Jake Rudock a chance to show what he can do.

Dec 23 9:43am ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) will play in Week 16's game against the Minnesota Vikings, even though he had been listed as questionable on the injury report.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford took part in all three of the team's practice sessions during the week on a limited basis. He has thrown one touchdown or fewer in each of his last five games and hasn't eclipsed the 300-yard mark since Week 8, so he shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy starting lineups.

Dec 21 4:43pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) practiced on a limited basis for the third straight day Friday, Dec. 21 and he is questionable for Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford has really taken a nosedive in terms of fantasy value as the season has progressed and he is mostly a QB2 at this point. He passed for just 199 yards with no TDs or INTs on Nov. 4 in the first meeting in Minnesota.

Dec 21 4:23pm ET

Detroit Lions S Charles Washington (hamstring) did not practice Friday, Dec. 21, and he is out for Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings, and WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) was limited but is also out. CB Jamal Agnew (knee), RB LeGarrette Blount (calf), WR Kenny Golladay (chest), DT Damon Harrison (ankle), LB Devon Kennard (hip) and QB Matthew Stafford (back) were each limited and are all listed as questionable. FB Nick Bellore (ankle), CB Marcus Cooper (back), LS Don Muhlbach (calf) and OT Ricky Wagner (concussion) practiced in full and are off the injury report.

Dec 20 4:53pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) put in a limited practice Thursday, Dec. 20.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford has been awful this year and is now dealing with an ailing back. On top of bad performance and bad health, he's up against a daunting Minnesota Vikings defense. Stay away from Stafford if you want to win your fantasy championship.

Dec 19 5:03pm ET

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 19 due to a back ailment.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford should be able to face the Vikings in Week 16, but check back Friday for his official injury designation if you normally rely upon him in fantasy leagues.

Dec 19 4:53pm ET

Detroit Lions DT Damon Harrison (ankle) and S Charles Washington (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 19. CB Jamal Agnew (ankle), FB Nick Bellore (ankle), WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring), WR Kenny Golladay (chest), LB Devon Kennard (hip), LS Don Muhlbach (calf) and QB Matthew Stafford (back) were limited participants while CB Marcus Cooper (back) and OT Ricky Wagner (concussion) practiced in full.
