Michel had a ho-hum second season for the Patriots. He started all year but failed to hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark and was 31st in fantasy running back scoring. He did not have a 100-yard rushing game all season despite having double-digit carries all but three games. He also got little work in the passing game once again, finishing with 12 receptions. He remains the starter for the Patriots, but might need to show a little more to stay in good graces with the coaching staff. Michel has posted very similar numbers each of his first two seasons in the league, averaging 922-rushing yards and seven touchdowns per sea-son. Michel is an explosive back that does great work in space. He is a big-play threat capable of a huge play every time he touches the ball. He can catch the ball pretty well out of the backfield despite not getting much work in that area. He does well as a runner on the outside or between the tackles.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Michel would have a lot more value if caught some more passes. He is going to get his yards and scores in this offense, though, making him a low-end No. 2 fantasy back. Michel can finish with around 1,200 total yards, double-digit scores and 20 receptions.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel will have more pressure on him than ever before this season. With Tom Brady now a Buccaneer and the inexperienced Jarrett Stidham as the probable No. 1 option under center, head coach Bill Belichick will likely feature Michel as an integral part of the offense more so than in years past. After a promising inaugural campaign in 2018, the 25-year-old saw a regression in certain statistical categories, notably taking a dip in his average YPC from 4.5 to 3.7. He did provide a career-high 247 attempts and nearly matched his yardage numbers from his rookie campaign on the ground, but fantasy owners would like to see more from him moving ahead. While he should handle the of a bulk of the carries in 2020, he has added pressure from sophomore back Damien Harris for reps if he doesn't produce. In regards to Michel's ADP, reaching for him during fantasy drafts isn't recommended, but bypassing him isn't either, with Harris providing adequate late-round handcuff relief as the workhorse over both James White and Rex Burkhead if things go south during the year. The former Georgia Bulldog has a sizable upside but be prepared for the chance of disappointment as well.

It was revealed that the surgery was more maintenance-based to help relieve discomfort. Michel was the leading rusher for the Patriots over the last two seasons. He rushed for 912 yards on 247 attempts with seven touchdowns last year in New England. The Pats drafted Damien Harris in the third round during the 2020 NFL Draft.
