The Detroit Lions signed veteran defensive lineman Kyle Peko on Tuesday, the team announced on X. Originally undrafted out of the class of 2016, Peko has spent time with the Denver Broncos (two stints), Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans (two stints), and Las Vegas Raiders. Overall, he has racked up 57 total tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, two passes defended, and 8.5 run stuffs in 42 games. With Alim McNeill and DJ Reader occupying starting roles on the interior, Peko is competing for a backup and rotational role.

The Detroit Lions are re-signing safety C.J. Moore to a one-year deal, according to NFL.com. The 28-year-old was suspended all of last season for violating the league's gambling policy, but he was recently reinstated and gets another chance with Detroit. Originally undrafted out of the class of 2019, Moore has played in 56 regular season games (all for Detroit). He's racked up 48 total tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and two pass deflections through his first five years in the league. Assuming he makes the 53-man roster, he'll primarily serve as a special-teamer and backup option to starters Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph.

The Detroit Lions traded up to the number 24 spot with the Dallas Cowboys to bolster their secondary with Alabama defensive back Terrion Arnold. Arnold intercepted five passes last season and yet he is not afraid to defend the run and initiate contact. The Lions were near the bottom of the pack with 375 total points allowed and total passing yards allowed with 3,846. The Lions saw this need and already began to address it with the free-agent acquisition of Amik Robertson from Las Vegas and the selection of Arnold will improve on the work done in the offseason.

Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph (arm) will not be cleared to practice until training camp this summer while he recovers from an arm injury. Joseph suffered the arm injury during the NFC Championship game loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and it's going to keep him out of workouts this spring. But as long as the 23-year-old doesn't suffer a setback when he gets back on the field in training camp, he should be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season and will operate as Detroit's starting free safety. The former third-rounder in 2022 out of Illinois has recorded 164 tackles (124 solo), eight interceptions, 19 passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 32 games (29 starts) in his first two years in the NFL. When healthy, Joseph is on the fantasy radar in IDP leagues for depth at the DB position.

The Detroit Lions re-signed cornerback Kindle Vildor to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday. Vildor will return to Detroit after spending the 2023 season with the Lions and Tennessee Titans. In just seven games (two starts) between the two teams, he had 11 tackles (10 solo) and a forced fumble. Vildor also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles last year but only played in NFL games in Detroit and Tennessee. The 26-year-old was originally a fifth-round pick (163rd overall) by the Chicago Bears in 2020 out of Georgia Southern. Vildor spent the first three years of his NFL career in Chicago and has a total of 108 tackles (77 solo), one sack, five tackles for loss, one interception, 12 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 51 games (24 starts) over four years in the league. It remains to be seen if Vildor will be a starter in 2024 after becoming a starter in Week 17 last year.

Free-agent cornerback Cameron Sutton, who has been wanted for weeks by police in Florida for his alleged involvement in a domestic-violence case, turned himself in on Sunday. Police had been unable to locate Sutton since March 7, when an arrest warrant was issued for him. His initial arrest warrant charged him with a felony, but prosecutors said on Monday that he was being formally charged with misdemeanor battery, which carries a maximum one-year jail sentence. Sutton was released from jail on Monday on his own recognizance. The 29-year-old signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Detroit Lions last year but was released by the team on March 21, the day after the team found out about the warrant for his arrest.

Detroit Lions defensive end Romeo Okwara announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday after eight seasons in the NFL. "After some introspection and meditation I have decided to step away from the NFL," Okwara wrote on his Instagram account. The 28-year-old appeared in 16 games for the Lions last year, registering nine tackles, five QB hits and two sacks as part of the team's defensive-line rotation. He was set to be a free agent this offseason. Okwara entered the league in 2016 with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. He spent his first two seasons with the G-Men before being claimed off waivers by the Lions in 2018. Okwara led the Lions with 7.5 sacks in 2018, and his 23 career sacks rank as the fourth-most by an NFL player born in Nigeria.

Updating previous reports, free-agent DE Marcus Davenport (Vikings) and CB Amik Robertson (Raiders) officially signed with the Detroit Lions Thursday, March 14. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed, but previous reports stated Davenport signed a one-year contract worth $6.5 million, while Robertson signed a two-year contract worth $9.25 million.

Free-agent defensive tackle D.J. Reader (quad) has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Detroit Lions, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The 29-year-old is known as one of the best run-stuffing interior defensive linemen in the NFL, and he lands on a team that was excellent in defending the run last season (91.1 rushing yards per game allowed). Reader suffered a torn quad in Week 15 of last season, so there's a chance he could be eased into action this offseason and early in the 2024 campaign. The Lions already had studs at edge rusher (Aidan Hutchinson) and defensive tackle (Alim McNeill), so Reader's arrival forms one of the best defensive lines in the league as Detroit looks to remain in contention for a Super Bowl.

Free-agent DT D.J. Reader (Bengals) reportedly agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth a maximum of $27.25 million with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, March 14.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis was officially traded to the Detroit Lions Wednesday, March 13, in exchange for a 2024 third-round draft choice. The Lions will also receive a 2024 sixth-round draft choice and a 2025 sixth-round draft choice in the trade.

The Detroit Lions are signing free-agent cornerback Amik Robertson to a two-year, $9.25 million deal that is worth up to $10.75 million with incentives on Tuesday, according to a source. Robertson played in 52 games (21 starts) with the Las Vegas Raiders and can defend the slot a Detroit secondary that needs all the help they can get to upgrade their defense this offseason. The Lions also acquired corner Carlton Davis from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. The Raiders' fourth-round draft choice in 2020 out of Louisiana Tech has a total of 111 tackles (84 solo), two sacks, four interceptions, 15 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 52 career games (21 starts) in his four seasons in the NFL with the Raiders.

Updating a previous report, impending free-agent DE Marcus Davenport (Vikings) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions Monday, March 11, worth $6.5 million, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. The deal could be worth as much as $10.5 million.
From TheHuddle
The Detroit Lions agreed to terms with free-agent defensive end Marcus Davenport (ankle) on an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday, according to sources. The former first-round pick (14th overall) of the New Orleans Saints in 2018 out of Texas-San Antonio spent last year with the division-rival Minnesota Vikings and produced just seven combined tackles and two sacks in four games (three starts) due to a high-ankle sprain. The 27-year-old pass-rusher is going to be forced to prove himself yet again to see if he can stay healthy for a full season, something he's never been able to do in six NFL seasons. In a career-high 15 contests in 2022 in his final season with the Saints, Davenport was only able to produce 29 tackles (16 solo) and half a sack, so anything the Lions are able to get out of him will be a plus in 2024.
