2024 RTSports Outlook

McCloud played with the 49ers last season and once again got most of his work as a return man. He had 14 receptions, failing to top 20 catches for the first time since 2019. McCloud serves his role as a return man well, though. He should have a similar role this coming season. McCloud is best suited for the slot because of his small size. He runs good routes, will make some plays after the catch and has enough speed to stretch the field. Most of his work should come on special teams once again, though.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: McCloud has good value in leagues that reward return yardage but isn't much help outside of that. Even when he got more work in the passing game the last few seasons, his fantasy numbers were not good. He could get around 20 catches for 200 yards.

The Atlanta Falcons signed free-agent veteran wide receiver and returner Ray-Ray McCloud to a two-year deal worth up to $6 million on Thursday, according to a source. The Falcons have added McCloud and Darnell Mooney through free agency this week and Rondale Moore via trade to give the team much better speed and receiving depth behind No. 1 wideout Drake London. McCloud, 27, is known more for his returning skills on special teams and has just 90 receptions (134 targets) for 767 receiving yards and one touchdown in his six years in the NFL with the Niners, Bills, Panthers and Steelers. Buffalo's former sixth-round pick in 2018 out of Clemson will compete for a depth role at the receiver position in Atlanta this summer while also being a candidate to return kicks. He's off the fantasy radar.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (illness) are active for Week 18 versus the Los Angeles Rams. Both players had been listed as questionable. McCloud was limited in practice all week long while Juszczyk was a late addition on Saturday. Fantasy managers shouldn't rely on either player this Sunday, though McCloud could sneak onto the fantasy radar if the 49ers limit snaps for Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.

San Francisco 49ers TE Ross Dwelley (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list, and WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Jan. 6. Also, DB Tayler Hawkins and RB Jeremy McNichols were elevated from the practice squad.

WR Danny Gray (shoulder) and WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) fully participated in practice but are listed as questionable. DE Nick Bosa (non-injury), OT Trent Williams (non-injury), OT Jaylon X. Moore (concussion) and OG Aaron Banks (toe) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

The San Francisco 49ers opened the 21-day practice window for wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III (ribs) to return from Injured Reserve on Wednesday and he was a full participant in practice. McCloud initially landed on Injured Reserve on Dec. 9. The 49ers now have 21 days to decide whether to officially activate the 27-year-old pass-catcher from IR. They won't be in any rush, as they'll have a first-round bye in the wild-card round of the playoffs next week before returning to action in the Divisional Round. San Fran also plays the Los Angeles Rams in a meaningless Week 18 game this Sunday, so it's possible McCloud could return for that. Even if he plays this weekend, McCloud won't be an option in fantasy lineups, as he's caught only nine passes for 113 yards and no touchdowns in 11 games this year.

Dec 9 6:50pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III (ribs) has been placed on the injured reserve on Saturday. This comes after McCloud was already declared out for the upcoming Week 14 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The 27-year-old hasn't made much of an impact this season. He has nine receptions for 113 yards and zero touchdowns this season. In his absence, wideout Chris Conley will replace him on the active roster. The 49ers are fairly healthy right now, so Conley won't be worth a look as a streaming option this weekend.

San Francisco 49ers WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list, and WR Chris Conley was signed from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Dec. 9. Also, S Erik Harris and RB Jeremy McNichols were elevated from the practice squad.

From TheHuddle

Dec 8 10:10pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III (ribs) won't suit up in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. The 27-year-old didn't play in the Week 13 win over the Eagles. While he managed to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday, he sat out on Thursday and Friday. Nonetheless, McCloud has only nine catches for 113 yards (no touchdowns) throughout the 2023-24 campaign. With Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel available in Week 14, McCloud wouldn't have been a viable fantasy option anyway.

From TheHuddle

Dec 7 12:50am ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III (ribs) was a limited participant in Wednesday's team practice. McCloud missed last week's game due to a rib issue, but his return to the practice field on Wednesday is a big sign for his availability on Sunday. He'll have two more chances to upgrade his practice status before the 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14. If McCloud does return this weekend, he doesn't carry much fantasy value as the team's WR4. The 27-year-old has just nine catches for 113 yards this season.

Dec 3 3:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III (rib) is officially inactive for Week 13 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. He had been listed as questionable. The 27-year-old has contributed a flurry of big plays on offense this season, but most of his contributions have been on special teams, where his absence will be felt. Ronnie Bell will likely return punts and kicks in his absence.
