2024 RTSports Outlook

Knox was a bit of a touchdown dependent player last year but found the end zone enough to finish 14th overall in fantasy tight end scoring. He scored six touchdowns and topped 500 yards. Knox had five games with double-digit fantasy points and hit double-digit points in each of his two playoff games. Knox has two straight seasons with 45-plus receptions and 500-plus yards. He moves to a backup role this season with the Bills taking Dalton Kincaid in the first round of this year's draft. Knox should see a big dip in playing time. Knox is a good route runner that can make plays down the field. He has plus hands and does well as a blocker. He can be an asset to the running game as well as a top red-zone target.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Knox is not draft material after the addition of Kincaid. He might get around 25 receptions for 300 yards and a few scores.

The Buffalo Bills and tight end Dawson Knox agreed to a reworked contract on Monday that lessens his $14.4 million salary cap hit in 2024, according to a source. Knox is going into Year 2 of a four-year, $52 million contract extension with the Bills. After the team drafted Dalton Kincaid last year, Knox's fantasy value took a huge hit. The 27-year-old former third-round selection in 2019 out of Mississippi caught a career-low 22 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 36 targets in 12 regular-season games in 2023. Knox had career-highs in receiving yards (587) and touchdowns (nine) in 2021, but coming anywhere close to those numbers is out the window now as long as Kincaid stays healthy and Knox remains in Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (illness) did not participate in Thursday's practice due to an illness, but he was removed from the injury report on Friday and will be active for Monday's Super Wild Card Weekend game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Knox played second fiddle to impressive rookie Dalton Kincaid throughout the regular season, and that's unlikely to change during the postseason. 2023 was easily the 27-year-old former Pro Bowler's weakest statistical campaign, averaging 1.8 receptions for 15.5 yards (8.5 yards per catch) with two total touchdowns over 12 games. Even with starting wideout Gabe Davis (knee) sidelined on Monday coupled with a cheap $2,900 DraftKings salary, it's not enough to make Knox relevant outside of single-game DFS showdowns as a TD-dependent dart throw. Unless you're searching for a contrarian option, Knox should be avoided.

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (illness) came down with an illness on Thursday and did not practice with the rest of the team. Knox still has a few more days to get ready for Sunday's wild-card playoff game against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, but he could end up with a questionable tag on Friday's final injury report. Since returning from a wrist injury in Week 14, Knox caught seven of his eight targets for 88 yards and one touchdown in five games. He only played over 50 percent of the offensive snaps in one of those five games and will most likely continue to cede playing time to rookie Dalton Kincaid in the playoffs if he's feeling better by Sunday's game. Kincaid is the much better DFS lineup option, especially if receiver Gabe Davis (knee) is unable to play against Pittsburgh.

Dec 11 10:00am ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox caught all three of his targets for 36 yards in the team's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The veteran missed the previous five games with a wrist injury. In his return, he logged his lowest snap count (47%) of the 2023 season. Dalton Kincaid continued to earn starter-level snaps, targets (8), and catches (5), although Knox outpaced the rookie in yards. Now a part-time player, Knox isn't worth rostering in redraft formats. He won't be on fantasy radars when the Bills host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15.

Dec 10 3:40pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) is officially active for Week 14 versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He had been listed as questionable but was trending in the right direction after being activated from IR on Saturday. Given that Dalton Kincaid has emerged as the Bills' clear No. 1 tight end, Knox can't be trusted in fantasy football.

Dec 9 6:50pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) was activated from the injured reserve on Saturday. This was expectation after Knox was a full participant in practice all week. Knox is expected to make his return to the field for the Week 14 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. He has missed the last five games after having wrist surgery. Knox has 15 receptions for 102 yards and one touchdown this season. It'll be interesting to see how the Bills mix him into the offense alongside Dalton Kincaid. The rookie tight end has been playing above expectations in the absence of Knox. The Bills will likely continue to get the rookie tight end involved, which makes Knox a shaky streaming option right now.

Dec 8 4:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) practiced in full all week long but remains questionable to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Knox is still on injured reserve and will need to be activated by 4 p.m. EST Saturday in order to suit up this week. He's expected to be active but can be left on waivers in most leagues given that Dalton Kincaid has emerged as Buffalo's clear No. 1 tight end.

Dec 8 12:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) has a chance to be activated off Injured Reserve for Sunday's Week 14 showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. Knox has been out since injuring his wrist in Week 7, but he's been a full participant in practices this week and is trending towards being active this weekend. The 27-year-old probably won't be on the field all that much in his first game back, but his return certainly isn't great news for rookie Dalton Kincaid's fantasy managers. Knox had 15 catches on 28 targets for only 102 yards and one touchdown in seven games before his injury, but his return will surely take some valuable targets away from the impressive rookie. For now, Kincaid remains a strong TE1 in fantasy lineups.

Dec 7 9:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) was able to get through a full practice session on Thursday. This marks back-to-back days that Knox has been able to practice in full capacity. The Bills opened up their 21-day window for Knox to return on Wednesday. Given his progress, there's a chance that Knox suits up against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. His return could make for a messy situation with Dalton Kincaid playing extremely well right now. Knox should be considered a low-end TE2 if he plays because he wasn't exactly doing well before the injury.

Dec 7 12:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) said he's feeling "fresh" as he gets set to return from Injured Reserve. The Bills opened up Knox's 21-day practice window this week, and they could officially activate him on Saturday so that he can suit up on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs for the first time since Week 7. Knox put in a full practice on Wednesday and appears ready to go for Week 14. The 27-year-old had been taking a back seat to impressive rookie Dalton Kincaid, though, so there's no reason to believe that Knox will come in after a long injury layoff and suddenly have a significant role in the passing game, especially in his first game back. Still, Knox's impending return isn't great news for fantasy managers that have been enjoying all the targets that Kincaid has been seeing.

Dec 6 12:30pm ET

The Buffalo Bills opened the 21-day practice window for tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) on Wednesday. It means the Bills now have 21 days to officially activate Knox from Injured Reserve. His status remains up in the air for Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills are hopeful that Knox will be able to return this weekend, but he hasn't played in a game since Week 7 and will need to prove he's ready in practices this week first. And even if Knox is activated from IR and available on Sunday, there's a good chance he'll have his snaps limited and will work well behind impressive rookie Dalton Kincaid at the tight end position. Given how well Kincaid has played in his first NFL season, Knox could take a back seat to the rookie for the rest of the season as a pass-catcher.

Nov 24 12:30pm ET

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that the team is "hopeful but not certain" that tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) will be able to return from Injured Reserve after the Week 13 bye and ahead of a Week 14 showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. Knox hasn't played since injuring his wrist in Week 7. With the 27-year-old out, rookie Dalton Kincaid has stepped up and has essentially become the No. 2 target for quarterback Josh Allen behind wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Knox's return would put a dent in Kincaid's overall upside, but Knox's return in Week 14 isn't guaranteed and he could be eased back into the offense as well. For now, Kincaid has become a must-start TE1 in fantasy lineups because of the target volume he's been seeing.

Nov 21 12:40am ET

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said on Monday that he doesn't expect tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) to resume practicing ahead of Week 12's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. Knox's 21-day practice window is eligible to be opened this week, after he found his way onto injured reserve in the aftermath of Week 7's 29-25 defeat to the division-rival New England Patriots. The 27-year-old underwent surgery on his right wrist following that outing, paving the way for 2023 first-round rookie Dalton Kincaid's fantasy stock to skyrocket into the TE1 fantasy ranks in his absence. The Bills get a week off after this Sunday's showdown with the Eagles, so it sounds possible at this stage that the team could hold Knox out through the Week 13 bye. There should be at least one more setup for Kincaid as a confident fantasy starter on Sunday.

Oct 26 9:30pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) has been officially placed on the injured reserve. Knox will miss the next four weeks and will require surgery on his injured wrist. Fantasy managers who have Knox rostered will need to look for another option with Knox out until at least Week 12. The expectation is that first-round pick Dalton Kincaid will see increased involvement in the offense. The rookie tight end should be rostered in basically all fantasy formats right now with Knox sidelined.

Dynasty | The Bills have placed tight end Dawson Knox on injured reserve following wrist surgery Dynasty Analysis: He'll miss the next four games and his absence will allow for more snaps and targets by rookie Dalton Kincaid. Knox has performed poorly in 2023 and is on pace to produce career-low numbers across the board. The presence of Kincaid has obviously provided increased target competition, leading to the decrease in effectiveness. Under contract through 2026, the Bills do have an "out" in 2025 meaning that the almost 27-year-old will should remain with the Bills through 2024. Listed as DLF's TE25, Dawson Knox faces an uphill climb to reach previous year production totals.

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) is not suiting up for the Thursday Night Football contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8. Knox has a wrist injury that requires surgery. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Knox is likely to be placed on Injured Reserve soon. If that happens, Knox will be required to miss four games, holding him out until at least Week 12. In his absence, rookie first-rounder Dalton Kincaid should see a sizable role increase in the high-powered Bills' offense. Kincaid caught seven passes last week and is trending toward TE1 territory in fantasy football.

Oct 25 11:00am ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) will not play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football, according to head coach Sean McDermott. Knox is set to undergo wrist surgery, and his timetable to return is unknown at this point. With Knox out, rookie Dalton Kincaid will have the chance to become a featured pass-catcher in Josh Allen's offense. The first-round rookie caught all eight of his targets for 75 yards in the Week 7 loss to the New England Patriots. The Buccaneers have surrendered the 10th-fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends this season, but Kincaid will still be on the fantasy radar as a part of a high-powered offense. He should have TE1 upside to begin the Week 8 slate.

Oct 23 6:40pm ET

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) is having wrist surgery. Knox initially injured his wrist in Week 5 in London in the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. There's no current timetable on a possible return, but we'll probably know a bit more after his surgery is complete. The Bills play on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8, so Knox surely won't be ready to play in that contest, and it's a good bet he'll miss more time as well. The 26-year-old has had a low fantasy ceiling and floor because of the presence of rookie Dalton Kincaid, who now becomes a hot waiver-wire pickup if he's available in your league. Kincaid, who had a season-high eight catches for 75 yards in the Week 7 loss to the New England Patriots, is rostered in 42% of Yahoo leagues.

Oct 21 4:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) may have been a 2022 Pro Bowler, but his 2023 returns have been lackluster to say the least. Knox has logged 17 yards or fewer in each of his last five games, and first-round rookie Dalton Kincaid has left the two pass-catchers fighting for precious little production. The 26-year-old was at least granted an elevated Week 6 role versus the New York Giants with Kincaid sidelined, but only secured three balls for 17 yards. With Kincaid back in the Week 7 mix against the division-rival New England Patriots and a weak 1.22 fantasy points per target, Knox should be reverted back to the low-upside TE2 doldrums on Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Oct 16 2:00am ET

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) did not take much advantage of first-round rookie Dalton Kincaid's (concussion) absence, catching three balls for 17 yards in Week 6's dramatic 14-9 win over the New York Giants. Knox failed to haul in either of his two first-half passes, but provided those who streamed him with his second straight three-catch, 17-yard showing. Third-stringer Quintin Morris happened to be the recipient of quarterback Josh Allen's fourth-quarter touchdown to a Bills TE. Knox tried to reel in a potentially game-ending catch late in the fourth quarter on third down, but the throw was a bit low. The 2022 Pro Bowler's snap count is set to regress with Kincaid figuring to receive clearance by the time next Sunday comes. Knox should be a barely-there TE2 against the New England Patriots in Week 7.
