Dynasty | The Commanders are releasing tight end Logan Thomas. Dynasty Analysis: Thomas is being let go so the Commanders can save a little more than $6 million against their salary cap. He was great in his first year in Washington, posting a 72/670/6 season but has battled some nagging injuries the past three years, resulting in a total of 36 games played. Now 32, it's fair to wonder just what kind of market he's going to have out there. If he fails to land a starting job, his dynasty value will drop down to zero.

The Washington Commanders are releasing veteran tight end Logan Thomas, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. He was due $6.5 million this upcoming season, including a $500k roster bonus later this month. The converted college quarterback signed with the organization to play tight end in 2020, and he had a relatively successful run. Thomas caught 184 passes for 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns in 52 games for the franchise, despite playing with several quarterbacks. The 32-year-old will likely draw some interest in free agency as a part-time of backup player. Meanwhile, Washington will likely look to replace him in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Washington Commanders TE Logan Thomas was released on Friday, March 1.

Fantasy Spin: Thomas has put together some nice seasons - including 55 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns in 2023 - as a tight end since making the transition from college quarterback years ago. Now 32 years of age, he will likely have to settle for a backup job somewhere in the league. Washington will now head into the new league year with John Bates and Cole Turner, although it would not be a surprise if the team added a starting-caliber option in free agency and/or the draft.

Jan 8 2:50pm ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas caught one of his two targets for nine yards in the season-closing blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Thomas had some bright spots this season and finished with his second-best single-season receiving total (496 yards), but he was mostly a non-factor in fantasy football. The 32-year-old is under contract with Washington next season, but the team can release him with just $1.75 million in dead cap. It will be interesting to see if he sticks around or if he becomes a free agent, but he's unlikely to have much fantasy upside anywhere he plays in 2024.

Jan 5 4:40pm ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas is looking like a rough option in Week 18. This week, Washington will be taking on the Dallas Cowboys for the second time this year. In their previous matchup during Week 12, Thomas had a mediocre performance with just two receptions for 15 yards. For the second half of the season, the veteran tight end hasn't been a player most want in their lineups, and his only substantial fantasy success has come when quarterback Jacoby Brissett (hamstring) operated the offense. Now, with Sam Howell manning the offense against a strong Dallas Cowboys team aiming to secure an NFC East title, Thomas offers little upside in this matchup.

Jan 1 7:50pm ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas caught three of his four targets for just 20 yards in the team's 27-10 Week 17 loss to the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Thomas and the rest of the Commanders' offense weren't really able to get anything going in a bad matchup against one of the better defenses in the NFL. But it's been really hard to trust Thomas as anything more than a TE2 streamer in fantasy this year. The 32-year-old has managed to stay healthy, which is nice, but he has only 54 catches (76 targets) for 487 yards and four touchdowns in his 15 games played. He has exceeded 50 yards receiving just three times all year and not since he had 58 yards on five receptions in Week 11 against the New York Giants. At best, he'll be a low-end TE1 in Week 18 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington Commanders TE Logan Thomas caught three passes for 20 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17. He was targeted four times during the game.

Dec 29 3:30pm ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas looked like a decent streaming play this week after impressing with Jacoby Brissett (hamstring) at quarterback in Week 16. Unfortunately, his outlook now looks much worse with the recent news of Brissett being ruled questionable for Week 17 after suffering a reported hamstring injury during practice. If the journeyman is unable to play, Thomas is a much less appealing option with struggling quarterback Sam Howell running the offense against a menacing San Francisco 49ers defense. Monitor Brissett's status entering Week 17 if you're relying on Thomas as an option at tight end.

Dec 24 6:10pm ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas caught five of six targets for 36 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's loss to the New York Jets. After three straight weeks of limited usage, the veteran tight end had a return to relevancy in Week 16. While leading Washington in receptions, Thomas also scored his first touchdown since Week 8. Although this was a nice outing for Thomas, he's still a hard name to trust in fantasy. With a Week 17 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, Thomas is going to have to bring his best if he wants to put up a repeat performance.

Dec 22 2:50pm ET

After three straight rough weeks, Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas is no longer a decent streaming option for tight end needy rosters. In Week 16, the Commanders are taking on the New York Jets on the road. This season, the Jets have been one of the best pass defenses in the NFL, making this a bleak spot for the 32-year-old veteran. Considering his recent lack of opportunity coincided with a tough defensive matchup, Thomas is looking like a weak option in Week 16. For the fantasy playoffs, there are likely better options out there to rely on.

Dec 18 10:10am ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas caught one of his three targets for seven yards in the team's 28-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. On paper, it was a great matchup for Thomas. The Rams are one of the worst defenses against fantasy football tight ends but he was unable to get anything going with Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett. The latter entered the game in the fourth quarter with the Commanders down multiple scores but his play only benefited Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel. It's hard to trust any receiving option in Washington as they travel to New York to face the Jets in Week 16.

Dec 15 5:30pm ET

After a couple of disappointing weeks, Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas could be in line for a rebound in Week 15. This week, the Commanders are heading across the country to take on the Los Angeles Rams. While the Rams have shown flashes on defense, one of their main weaknesses has been defending the tight end position. This season, Los Angeles has allowed the second most fantasy points per game to tight ends. In the case of Thomas, this should benefit him considering the Commanders will probably stick to their pass-heavy play style while attempting to keep up with the Rams' strong offense. With a solid matchup, the veteran tight end is a solid streaming option in Week 15.

From RotoBaller

Dec 4 12:30pm ET

The Washington Commanders offense really couldn't get anything going in the 45-15 shellacking by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Week 13. No Washington pass-catcher exceeded 65 yards on the day or found the end zone. Tight end Logan Thomas, meanwhile, couldn't secure his only target of the day to give fantasy managers that started him a bagel in the score column. It was his second straight disappointing game, as Thomas had only two catches for 15 yards in last week's blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The Commanders will go back to the drawing board during their bye in Week 14, and Thomas will come out in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Rams hoping to be much more productive. Fantasy managers will find him hard to trust in that one as a high-end, touchdown-dependent TE2.

Dec 3 5:03pm ET

Washington Commanders TE Logan Thomas ended up with just one target and no receptions in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins.

From TheHuddle

Dec 1 6:10pm ET

Coming off of a dud performance in Week 12 against the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas could have a slight bounce back in Week 13. This week, the Commanders are taking on the Miami Dolphins. Knowing that the Dolphins have a blistering offense, there's a decent chance that Washington will play from behind for most of this game. If that's the case, the offense will probably have to rely on their usual pass-heavy game plan. Based on the projected pass volume, Thomas could be considered a streaming option with plenty of targets to go around. If you're in a pinch during this six-team bye, the veteran tight end should suffice as a streaming play.

Washington Commanders TE Logan Thomas caught two passes for 15 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12. He was targeted four times during the game.

From TheHuddle

Nov 22 2:50pm ET

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas has been one of the more consistent tight ends in the NFL this season. Unfortunately, there haven't been many splash outings from the veteran, but he's been a lock for four to five receptions during most weeks. With the Commanders taking on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12, Thomas could be a good streaming play as Dallas typically clamps up opposing wide receivers. If Washington decides to further involve the 32-year-old, he could pay off. Considering he already has a solid floor, Thomas should be a stable streaming candidate for rosters that are weak at tight end.

From RotoBaller

Nov 20 1:40pm ET

In the embarrassing 31-19 Week 11 loss to the New York Giants, Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas tied for the team lead in receiving with running back Brian Robinson Jr. with five catches on eight targets for 58 yards. Thomas also lost a costly fumble and was tied with receiver Terry McLaurin for second on the team with five receptions. It was the third time in 2023 that the 32-year-old has gone over 50 yards receiving in a game. Most of his production came on a 29-yard hookup with quarterback Sam Howell late in the first quarter. All three of his failed hookups with Howell went for interceptions. The Commanders aren't going to stop airing it out, which will make Thomas a low-end TE1 option for fantasy managers in Week 12 against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
