The Carolina Panthers re-signed offensive tackle Daryl Williams to a one-year, $7 million deal on Wednesday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 26-year-old is one of the better tackles in the NFL but is coming off a knee injury that held him to just one game last year. Williams was a second-team All-Pro in 2017 and his re-signing is definitely good news for quarterback Cam Newton and Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton should be ready for training camp, head coach Ron Rivera said Friday, Feb. 15, on ESPN. Rivera also stressed the need to protect Newton better with the quarterback recently undergoing shoulder surgery, and the coach said the Panthers will use both free agency and the draft, if necessary, to shore up the team's offensive line.

Fantasy Spin: Cam finished as a top-12 fantasy QB, but tailed off dramatically late in the season once the shoulder flared up, and he wound up missing the final two games of the year. If all is looking good health-wise later this summer, Newton will still go off the board as a QB1 in fantasy drafts.

Feb 11 12:43am ET

The Carolina Panthers could seek a veteran backup to QB Cam Newton in free agency, in the opinion of ESPN's David Newton, who lists soon-to-be free-agent QBs Brock Osweiler (Dolphins), Trevor Siemian (Vikings), Tyrod Taylor (Browns), Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buccaneers), Sean Mannion (Rams) and Mark Sanchez (Redskins) as options they could consider.

Feb 9 11:43am ET

There is growing optimism that Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) may be able to participate in organized team activities in May, since his rehab from right shoulder surgery is going well, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Fantasy Spin: Newton had a great deal of scar tissue removed from his throwing shoulder two weeks ago and is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp even if he is unable to take part in OTAs. He should be viewed as a low-end QB1 in most fantasy formats heading into the 2019 season.

Feb 7 2:10pm ET

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton's shoulder wasn't as bad as feared after arthroscopic surgery last month to explore both the labrum and rotator cuff in his right arm. Surgeon Pat Connor told Newton that the "cartilage damage was not as extensive as we'd feared." Newton's shoulder bothered him for most of the second half of the season and he was held out of the final two games with nothing on the line. His surgery yielded good news, though, and Newton should be fine for training camp and the regular season. He's had two surgeries the last two offseasons on his shoulder, but Newton still has high-end QB1 upside if he's healthy. He could come at a nice value in 2019 drafts.

Feb 7 1:23pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) on Thursday, Feb. 7, unveiled a YouTube video channel containing a post about his late-January arthroscopic procedure on his throwing shoulder. In the post, Newton says he couldn't throw the ball 30 yards late in the season, but was determined to keep playing. 'I felt like defenses were exposing me because I couldn't throw the ball down field,' Newton said in the video post. 'Not being in a position physically to be able to make the throws that you know you're capable of making, that was the disheartening thing of the whole year.''

Fantasy Spin: Later in the video, doctors are seen telling Newton the damage in his shoulder actually wasn't as bad as they had feared so the QB already has a solid head start in his recovery. He's a QB1 that some fantasy GMs in your leagues are bound to bypass because of fears over lingering injury issues.

Feb 3 3:33pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) will be ready for the start of the 2019 season and could be on the field at the start of training camp, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Newton probably will not do much this offseason but appears to be on track to participate in training camp. He is coming off a disappointing season but will have solid weapons to work with on offense in 2019. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues next season.

Feb 3 1:20pm ET

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) could be ready for training camp after having arthroscopic right shoulder surgery last month. The team certainly expects Newton to be ready for the start of the 2019 regular season, according to a league source. There is no timetable for when he'll return, but one source familiar with the surgery said "it's all positive." He missed the last two regular season games and was noticeably limited with his arm strength down the stretch, but his second surgery in two years seems to have helped him. Fantasy owners might be a little more wary of taking Newton as their QB1 in 2019, but a stronger shoulder could help him bounce back in a big way. He'll surely be a little more risky, but Newton still has high-end QB1 upside.

Jan 31 4:50pm ET

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) is already showing marked improvement after undergoing a minimally invasive arthroscopic right shoulder surgery after the season ended. I was there on one of his recovery days when (Newton) was working out with (head athletic trainer) Ryan Vermillion, head coach Ron Rivera said. And one of the things he did say was that he has gotten a lot of range of motion back. So that was exciting to hear. Doctors cleared out excess scar tissue that was affecting the range of motion in his arm, but they didn't find anything else wrong during the surgery. Newton grinded through the season and lacked zip on his throws because of his shoulder. The hope is that he'll be back to normal next year, but the fact remains it's the second straight offseason he's had right shoulder surgery. He still has high-end QB1 upside because of his legs, but Newton is more of a risk now. The coaching staff is optimistic he'll be fully recovered by training camp, and he could even work out with the team in the spring.

Jan 31 3:43pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) said he's greatly increased his range of motion in his throwing arm since undergoing surgery a week ago. He expressed his relief in his bothersome shoulder ailment being fixed. Newton is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp.

Fantasy Spin: Newton is trending upward following a frustrating 2018 campaign. Even with the nagging injury and despite missing two games, Newton achieved QB14 status. His 24 touchdowns were tied for the second most in a season of his eight-year career.

Jan 30 8:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) said his surgically repaired shoulder is feeling good.

Fantasy Spin: Newton probably will be limited during offseason workouts but should be ready for the start of training camp. Newton can still be considered a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues because of his running ability, but owners should keep an eye on his rehab during the offseason.

Jan 25 9:00pm ET

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) is hoping to be cleared to throw at organized team activities in the spring after he had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on Thursday. His surgery wasn't serious by any means and he should be ready for training camp in the summer. However, it's his second straight offseason with right shoulder surgery, so fantasy owners will be a little bit more hesitant to take him as their starting quarterback in 2019 drafts. With better shoulder health, Newton could easily bounce back, especially with his ability to do damage with his legs as well.

Jan 25 8:23am ET

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) is hopeful be back to throwing by organized team activities and ready for training camp.

Fantasy Spin: Newton has regressed since his MVP season, and he has fallen into the mid-to-low QB1 area in fantasy.

Jan 24 5:20pm ET

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on Thursday. Newton's surgery was a success and he will start his rehabilitation process immediately. The 29-year-old was extremely limited with what he could do down the field late in the season and missed the final two games as a precaution. Newton finished with 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 14 games. It's the second offseason in a row he's had surgery on his right shoulder, so fantasy owners will be more cautious selecting him as a QB1 in 2019. If healthy, though, Newton has high-end QB1 upside because of what he can add with his legs.

From RotoBaller

Jan 24 5:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Thursday, Jan. 24. A timetable for his return was not disclosed.

Fantasy Spin: The procedure doesn't appear to be overly serious, but the Panthers will likely take it easy with Newton, especially since it's his throwing shoulder that's been operated on. He does have several months to make a full recovery and be drafted comfortably in QB1 territory.

Jan 15 9:03pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) is not guaranteed to play at all in 2019 as the team considers all of its options regarding his injured shoulder. Per ESPN.com's David Newton, the organization has been in discussions with medical personnel on the best plan to strengthen the shoulder - whether that's with rest or another surgery. A surgery opens the possibility Newton could miss a season - just as Andrew Luck did in 2017 - after undergoing surgery on his throwing shoulder.

Fantasy Spin: It sounds as if missing all of 2019 is only a worst-case scenario, but the fact it is even on the table this early in the offseason is concerning. Kyle Allen played well in the regular-season finale and could conceivably be asked to fill in, but Carolina will probably try hard to secure a capable placeholder in free agency or spend a relatively early pick in the draft at quarterback to protect itself. At this point, it's probably best if fantasy owners assume the worst and hope for good news sometime this summer.

Jan 15 6:20pm ET

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper said he has "no idea" on whether quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) will need offseason surgery. Newton's right shoulder hampered him down the stretch and he was shut down for the final two games with the team eliminated from postseason contention. We'd be surprised if he didn't undergo right shoulder surgery for the second straight season based on how he looked in the second half of the season. While a second straight year of surgery would have many scared to take Newton as a QB1 in 2019 drafts, he'd still have QB1 upside based on his running abilities.

From RotoBaller

Jan 15 5:53pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's (shoulder) offseason recovery remains unclear as team owner David Tepper admitted he has 'no idea' if Newton will have surgery.

Fantasy Spin: Newton's rushing numbers were down in 2018 - including a career-low four rushing touchdowns - but his passing statistics were better. He even completed a career-high 67.9% of his attempts. His rushing ability will always have him in QB1 territory.

Dec 30 11:43am ET

The Carolina Panthers have declared DL Kawann Short, QB Cam Newton, CB Lorenzo Doss, WR Devin Funchess, OG Trai Turner, LB Efe Obada and TE Jason Vander Laan inactive for Week 17.

Dec 28 4:33pm ET

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) did not practice again Friday, Dec. 28 and he has been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Spin: With Taylor Heinicke out and Kyle Allen starting, it was thought Cam might be healthy enough to at least serve as the backup, but that's not the case. Garrett Gilbert is the emergency QB if Allen is befallen by injury. Cam wraps up the season with 3,395 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 488 rushing yards with four scores in 14 games.
